GEC Rendezvous and Picnic!

Anybody there can a feel for what this is?

Maybe it is GEC telling us they are getting into the business of making flashlights. :D

On the tour, I noticed in packaging dept. The woman was packaging hand held flashlights in the tubes. I did not as and I am not sure what was going on with that. There were many though. Maybe everyone gets one at the picnic or something. But when I look at this photo, that is clearly what it is. Looks exactly like those flashlights and the bordering color orange is the same as the tubes(GEC Farm and field tubes). It is definitely a superimposed image though. There was no banner or poster in the hallway of this.

WOW very good. You are on the right track!!
Wow. Meeting Charlie for the first time was so awesome and acquiring a few of his knives at this rendezvous was a real treat. He gave me his undivided attention for as long as I wanted it. A truly awesome dude. Any questions I had about anything traditional, GEC, or Barlows, he answered them.

Kay guys, I kept hearing about how people come out in the middle of the night and camp out for the Rendezvous knife. Seeing as this is likely my only time to come to the Rendezvous, I wanted to take a shot at getting one.

Long story short, I'm posting this at 3:23 am on GEC's front stoop... and I'm the only one here! o_O
That's commitment, my friend. Hope you got something nice out of it!
Yup! I just stopped back at the hotel to fetch the wife. I got a Rendezvous knife... and an embarrassing amount of store knives... which I'll probably have to sell a couple of...
I agree with Barrett, Colin; that certainly is commitment!!:thumbsup:
And I'm glad to hear that you're a living example of the adage, "The early bird gets the worm." Congrats on all your new finds, and I'm looking forward to eventually seeing some photos!:cool:

Having a great time with great people,so much fun to meet Duncan and Paul and get together again with Charlie,Lyle, their wives and all the others.
The Rendezvous knife is a beautiful 38 in abalone done with the higher grade abalone, beautiful colors.
Colin, the line Thursday morning was about 30 people long at 7am with 3 or so that camped out on the porch most of the night. Donna and I were about 15th in line and about the last to get that days allotment of Rendezvous knives.
More details and pictures will have to wait until I can get home to a better Internet connection.
The parts knives and store knives are interesting this year, lots of stag handled knives from 2013 that have shields, several one off knives that disappeared quick, I picked up a 92 with black acrylic handles that was the only one. Also picked up a stag 79 workhorse ans a stag cotton sampler, wife found a great stag 06 with wonderful stag for such a small knife.
Thanks for the on-site updates, Augie; much appreciated!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Sounds like you're finding some great knives; congrats, and I hope you'll post some pics when you get time!:cool:

Even though I've never met him, I get the feeling he is a special kind of person.

Your feeling is warranted! I met him for the first time today, and his warmth and humility makes him larger than life. Making his acquaintance was truly a highlight of my trip.

Do the parts knives have an "s" on the main tang? Yesterday, I was 6th in line but the first 3 guys pretty much had that display hoarded.

Some did, some didn't.

This is maybe my most alluring from the Rendezvous haul. It's a parts knife (ahem, "Factory Special Assembly") but does not have a stamp on the tang. It's a white acrylic barehead 48 with a houndstooth shield. Christine said they made up 9 for the Rendezvous.

Where were the parts knives that did not have the "s" like the one you got here??

GEC, or more exactly Farm & Field Tool, actually does now have a flashlight in the line. It is US made by Princeton Tec, and is waterproof and has a caplifter.

I had a great time today. I'm glad o woke up at 2am to drive there and get in line, the .38 Special Rendezvous knife is a beauty. From seeing the #38 pattern online I didn't think I'd like it, but in hand with the spectacular abalone covers it feels and looks great. I also got a store knife #25 little Barlow in Unicorn Ivory Acrylic. The story behind the scarcity is a bummer, but interesting. I didn't realize acrylic could have such varying properties. I think it's great, super creamy with a cool pattern. I'm guessing it's a store knife because of a slight gap, but it doesn't detract from it being a super cool knife.

The best part though, by far, was getting to actually spend the whole day meeting and talking with everyone there. Other years I've always been rushed. This year I was there getting to know people and see their awesome knives from 430am to past 430pm. I got to put faces to several usernames, and everyone was great. It was good to see friends I'd met at previous years also. I'm excited to finally make it to the picnic this year!

The tour, and Bill and Will, were super insight full as always. Their knowledge and passion and the GEC staff in general is always impressive. The tour certainly reaffirms appreciation for the craftsmanship behind the knives.
