GEC Rendezvous and Picnic!

B B.F.U I'd be curious to hear what the issues with the Ivory Acrylic were. (I had assumed there had been some sort of problem, which of course happens from time to time, especially with a "new" material, but I haven't heard anywhere what the actual trouble with this one was.)

Glad to hear everyone's having a good time! I hope to make it up that way one of these years.

Bill mentioned something about acrylic in general being susceptible to heat damage during grinding. B B.F.U and I bought our Unicorns almost simultaneously, and the ones in the store all looked good to me. Mine might have a slight (slight) grey discoloration mark at the butt of the knife, but if you polished off the "S" on the tang, I'd hazard a guess that anyone would've accepted it from a vendor just fine.

It was great meeting some online friends. Half/Stop Half/Stop and Old Engineer Old Engineer are two gentlemen I wish I could've spent some more time with today, but it was good to match faces to names!

Exactly what mine was like from the store. I used some wd40 and rubbed it out. It is not perfect but it is pretty close.

Well I'm in Titusville, headed to GEC early tomorrow.

Had to share this shot outside of cross creek. That moment when you decide to rent a car for a 600 mile drive to PA, and the guy at the counter is from PA and decides to hook you up with an upgrade

Edit: rolled up to GEC at 5:30 or so - nobody else here!

Continues to be a great time, meeting many forum members , it is great being able to put faces to names.
Highlight of the day yesterday was being able to handle the forum Barlow and the prototype TC Barlows, Charlie let me take pictures but won't be able to post them until I get home,Wifi here is poor, they are great looking Barlows with that sheepsfoot.
Added several knives yesterday both buying and horse trading, another GEC stag knife, an ebony Whaler from another forum member and Donna picked up another Stag 06. Horse trading coughed up an extremely rare old Washington jack and the Queen Show added a rare Southern Barlow Co. Barlow and an older Dave Shirly Scagel Northwoods large stag Barlow.
Today we are just going to kick back and enjoy the company of friends an a great picnic, sorry for no pics, they will be added Sunday evening or Monday.

It's been quite a ride folks.
Meeting everybody here has just been amazing- I am quite overwhelmed with everything.
What amazing people we have here in Traditionals- I have absolutely loved meeting the folks- loved the GEC tour and lived spending lots of money lol.
I will post more when the chance comes up.
Off to do some more shopping for knives and to the Picnic.
Have a great day everyone.

iI'll bet that was fun, driving that up to PA? My car is in the shop. A tree fell on the hood! One of the reasons I did not make it. If I had rented, with my luck I would end up with one of those little Korean buzz bombs:rolleyes: No recent aspersions intended. Glad everyone had a great time. Next year!

I posted these in the Forum knife thread as well but I thought they would be appreciated here as well! Pam and I have had a great time. We have meet a lot of new friends and got to spend time with some of our friends we meet from the last two years. I have not posted much this time because we have been so busy. I can say that getting to see the Forum TC being made and actually having the opportunity to handle one was definitely a highlight of the trip.

Thanks for posting this! I'm jealous that you were able to handle the knife. It was amazing to me that the knife was in every stage of production in the shop.

It's been quite a rude folks.

I'm sorry I missed you! I was keeping an eye out.

If anyone sees this, I think I left my knife roll at the picnic. It is purple. I either left it on a table or put it on top of my car and forgot to put it inside. I can't believe I did this, but if someone finds it I'll pay for the shipping or meet you or whatever, it's all my knives.

FOUND!!! Bill said they will ship you your knives on Monday or Tuesday. The only problem I see is who will win in the fight over the oil sucker rod TC:D

Rest assured Bill said they will ship them to you Monday or Tuesday. He said to just contact him for your shipping info:thumbsup:

I am so, so happy to hear that! The time went faster than I realized and I got a call from a coworker asking me to bring something to our company picnic 2+ hours away in Pittsburgh that started at 2,so I left in a hurry. Still, I have no idea how I forgot it. Once I realized I didn't know where it was I stopped and tore my car apart looking for it. I had dark visions of putting it on my roof to get in my car and it flying off at 60mph and exploding on concrete, or falling out of my car somehow when I stopped at Sheetz.

I'd rather sacrifice one for my absent mindedness than lose the whole lot! Haha Thankfully I have the 2013 TC Sheepfoot in my pocket ;)

Thanks so much for the post, and to whoever noticed it. And of course to Bill.

B B.F.U . - Young man it was a pleasure meeting and talking with you at the Rendezvous on Friday and Saturday! I am so thankful they found your knives for you. That just goes to prove what an outstanding group of individuals we Traditional lovers are.
PS: paulhilborn paulhilborn - You can have the Oil Sucker TC, I want that Ivory Northwoods Madison Barlow he showed me today!! :)

My heart dropped when I read that, glad it's accounted for!!

Kay guys, I kept hearing about how people come out in the middle of the night and camp out for the Rendezvous knife. Seeing as this is likely my only time to come to the Rendezvous, I wanted to take a shot at getting one.

Long story short, I'm posting this at 3:23 am on GEC's front stoop... and I'm the only one here! o_O
So you are the guy who was being talked about !!!!! Who was the guy who showed up very early with his 88 year old mother ??????

Harry
