I don't know of any other USA cutlery co. that produces a sway back Jack other than Case. I don't know if Case will do a small run? I voted for a Barlow. Queen Cutlery makes the best Traditional IMHO ie Schatt & Morgan, Robeson. I would like Ebony scales, D2 or ATS-34 blade steel. Clip Master blade, long pull with swedge. If we choose a second long back blade rather than a pen, I would rather see a spear blade with a swedge rather than a spay. These are my thoughts and choices, and hope not to bore others...

Thanks...

Still my choice 1/29/2009...:D

Steven, a standard Barlow is 3 3/8" usually, but with a pretty hefty handle. Not your optimum length, but maybe O.K. for you?

I have a concern, that the only ones producing a swayback are the nice folks at Case. My experience has been that they are not that "small order" friendly.
If we go with a pattern that is new for a given cutlery, the cost may be too high for us!!

I have some old connections at Zippo. IF they are still there, we can get some favorable treatment, not even available to long time Case dealers.

Still not a fan of Case, however.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

They do have CV though. . . . . . .hmmmmmmm.
A swayback with twin Wharcliffes. My Wharcliffes will do most any job a pen will do; and so much more!!

While I would not mind a swayback as a second choice, the Barlow, now in second place pollwise, may be the only practical choice.
Comments anyone??

Cross our bridges when we come to them :)
Let us see what happens to the list of 'ifs' to see how they play out.
It will be quite clear to us after that.

I have swayback as first choice.
But a strong second would be a barlow with a clip and pen in D2 (or a quality steel) with Ebony
(Not a Daddy)

We also have a maker who has offered help on a swayback design. To the point he is offering to send an unfinished model so that it can be taken apart. This might open the door to a company not making one at the moment. ;)

Hang in there folks. This is a majority rule decision. No one person will be making decisions that are open to us including me. Once our ducks are in a row then of course it will be up to each individual as to participation.

I could definitely go for a Barlow, if necessary.

hmmmm I think Im going to have to change my vote. As of lately I have become enamored with the sway back jack. so yes, that is my vote. Forget the serpentine one I votes for. I was young and naive back in those days so long ago...:)

I like the Jack patterms, I currently own one Barlow, an Imperial Barlow still in the clamshell pkg, I'd like a quality one to carry as a heavier use knife but as it's been said, I'll go with the majority, (go Barlow).

A barlow would be my first choice, but I certainly wouldn't mind a swayback.
I'd vote for carbon blades over stainless but it isn't a dealbreaker.
Also, clip points are my least favorite blade. I think sheepsfoot, spey, spear, and wharnies are better. Swedged blade spines do make a knife look better. Are wood scales an option?
:) I'm basically in for whatever specifics are chosen if it is a barlow or swayback jack.

I voted Barlow, but would take this one.:)

I think a single blade swayback jack like the picture is a great idea!

I'm not against a single bladed Barlow idea either!
Carbon steel for me than you.

What historically has the price RANGE been on the forum knives??
I might be interested if the price is right........

Waynorth gets much love from me for his pics, knowledge and the Schrade OT I won from him:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Hard to say what the cost is going to be, until the knife is chosen, but in all cases so far the price has ended up being a good deal compared to typical prices of the knife patterns we have gotten in the past. With the two most popular patterns this year being the barlow and the swayback, I think we will be well below 100.00 depending upon materials.

I am sure you guy's have already seen this but if not take a look on Canal streets website they say the will do runs as low as 50 pieces.

It's obvious the two top choices are the Swayback and the Barlow, how about a vote between the two, I think it's close enough to merit another vote to give some a chance to change their minds or solidify the Swayback choice, what do you guys think?

Is that Swayback Jack James Todd posted a pix of, represent the one ever body will be voting on along with a Barlow pattern undefined as yet?
