Giveaway #77 Barlow! Nominate your fellow BF Members!

Jack Black for his extensive knowledge of English Cutlery, and his enteraining and educational posts.
(I still don't know what the difference is between a Lambsfoot blade and a Sheepsfoot blade is, though)

There are entirely too many people who I think deserve to be nominated for this giveaway (many of whom have already been nominated already by someone else), and I would hate to leave someone out, so I'm not going to try and make a comprehensive list. Instead, I'm going to nominate two people, based on the following quoted post from earlier today.

Campbellclanman
Because hes a poor simple kiwi and they need our help.

My first nomination is Duncan, aka Campbellclanman, because he's always having to put up with meako's insults on account of his being from New Zealand. :)

My second nomination is meako, because his posts make me literally laugh out loud on a regular basis. :D

I nominate flatblackcapo he is my knifemaking mentor and all around great person. He goes above and beyond and out of his way to share knowledge and tips about anything in the great world. He is a traditional knife nut and I'm sure if he won he would be over the moon. Thanks for the gaw and your generosity.
Jonny

Emspop - Clay introduced me to a Case pattern, the 6279, that I didn't know existed in one of his posts and the next thing you know I have one in my hands that only needed a little cleaning to bring it back to life. I really enjoyed the cleaning project and the knife is a great companion. Thanks to Clay I now own two 6279's with the first one being a gift. Clay has a strong passion for pocket knives, particularly Buck knives and older Case knives and he's a great guy to talk to. I really enjoy his posts in this subforum and others as well. An asset to the community for sure.

Please do not count this as an entry : For me it would be impossible to nominate any one person . There are just so many people who have given me so much enjoyment via these threads . Then there is the every day proof that some very nice and generous people are still out there .It seems that every day there is a new person who joins us on the porch and contributes in a very positive manner. I will try to list some the people who impressed me enough over the last couple of years to make me want to stay on the porch and review the various threads that interest me. Please do not think that there is any importance to the order. Paul Hilburn , Gevonovich , GT , Half/Stop , Jsega51 , Mt Damascus , KBA , 556 Hunter , Jack Black , Swaybacksteve , Primble , Philllll , Brumby , Cambertree , Will Power , Jolipapa , Gafishing , Redsparrow , BIG BISCUIT , Merry Mad Monk , Chief , Mike Latham , Gunstockjack , Derrickbohn , R8shell , Pertinux , and the list could just go on and on . You people have gotten me into Barlows , Cattaraugus , Old Knives in general , and appreciation of well made traditionals .
IN A 16 TO 15 BASEBALL GAME , WHO SCORED THE MOST IMPORTANT RUN ????

Harry

Thanks for being so thorough, everyone! Every single member that came to mind has been mentioned already, often multiple times!

I must apologise I did not see this thread as I have been extremely busy with work so tend to be pretty selfish and just go to the most haunted threads that I do - because of lack of time.

Charlie deserves more recognition, his generosity goes a lot further than most of us know, and yet we all know just how generous he is. He has also stuck his neck out to help others in the knife world by bringing back the True Traditional patterns at an extremely affordable price- in Quality that far out-weighs the cost of the knife.
His contribution to the knife world, to near all of us personally, and selfishly - me, Charlie has patiently guided me, put up with me and I dont think Charlie knows just how much I admire him, look up to him, and appreciate his friendship, I am extremely grateful for Charlie, and the support that Joanne - Charlies lovely Wife must give to this fantastic man.

To have a Gentleman like this to even just share his knowledge - is an amazing bonus, yet he shares his collection openly to give us yet more knowledge, he then extends his generosity to gift so many knives over the years.
We are all so so lucky to have Charlie Campagna in our lives, Charlie my friend - thank you for everything, from all of us.

I would also like to to take the time to explain just why I nominate a person - to nominate them would be selfish - because I just plain like the person, so please bare with me..
Jack Black...
Jack I also am very proud to call a friend, but to underline a honest attempt at transparency here, Jack since the day he joined us ( Thank you someone for this.. ) has been SUCH a lovely gift to Traditionals.
His passion, his love of sharing and gifting is I think almost unmatched here - which in itself a massive thing to say.

Jack has enlightened many of Traditional members here, he has fought vehemently to preserve Traditionals - Im glad I met Jack, Im glad he is my personal friend and I am so glad he is here on the Porch.
If we want to know about a Sheffield knife- can I ask you this? - who do you think of asking??? because if Jack does not know - he will go to SUCH lengths to source information for you

Shipping a knife from the UK is NOT easy, and it is NOT cheap, yet Jack goes out on these missions to find and source out knives also Sheffield Artifacts that in a big way has massively bought up the Sheffield existence in a American based Traditional Knife Forum - which is easy when you have seen the amazing early knives first hand - but to get us to view Sheffield knives like Jack has - he has actually gifted us a massive gift - whether we know this - OR want to admit this or not .
On a personal note, I feel I am a better person for meeting this man, the only one day of meeting Jack will probably run through my mind as my life flashes by when its my time to leave here, a friend, a stellar Forum member who deserves to pull his chair up right next to Charlie.
Thank you Jack.

Now this one is very hard because I have struck such a deep friendship with this amazing guy, but I am so glad to see his name mentioned so much.

Paul Hilborn and I have been talking. dealing and buying off eac other which over the years simply automatically dropped payment and we continuously make our selves broke by buying each other knives.

Paul has reached out to MANY here in Traditionals, and I can tell you that this man would risk life and death if he saw anyone in trouble - he amazes me and I can honestly state I am not ashamed to say that I love this guy to bits a such a good friend.

Paul continues to this day to help, offer and gift knives, absolutely everything to so so many people, whenever I have been involved in a giveaway or a Charity - Paul is THE FIRST guy to either phone, pm or e-mail and almost insist that he help in every way, I just cannot say enough as a person who is trying to be un-bias.
I wont be surprised to see Paul win here - Im extremely proud to know this guy, to call him a very very good friend, he does more, and MOST CERTAINLY cares more than you all know.

I'd like to nominate Glennbad. Always willing to give great advice, does great work, and always willing to pitch in around here. I hope it goes you way!

Apologies as I somehow must shorten this, yet its so hard because of the Caliber of amazing people we have here, so if I have missed anyone out - I apologise as it is so so hard to do in such esteemed company.....
Bob - my friend, and most of our friend, Bob - even through the battle he is facing - he STILL takes time to help, GIFT .....donate - I can tell you if I could JUST be closer to this wonderful man - BOB aka Mr.Big Biscuit is one hell of a guy, Bob Thank you doesnt seem enough, but my friend - Thank you for all you Have done, for all you do, and in advance for all you are about to do - because I know you cant stop being so kind and selfless.

Brett - KBA , Brett is a guy that if we wanted a model to shape the future of mankind - he would be a Stellar pick, I admire this young Family man for his massive caring, Generosity - he most certainly shines a bright light in our part of the world, Brett thank you for your help, your generosity and care that you have shown towards Traditionals, and especially your fellow man.

Dave - knowtracks - Oh man...just where do you start with Dave - he has helped many - the time he takes to help with information and his posts of his collection to help us keep track of series on knives- Dave is just a Great man who is extremely generous - In many deals Dave could have made lots more money - but just charged what was the cost price when the very wanted collectables were being paid 3 to 4 times the price! I am glad to call him a friend, and I sure am glad that we have him here in Traditionals thats for sure.

Harry - Old Engineer - what a great guy - super kind with his comments, a real Gent with such high caliber in my views - another gem in Trads.

Gevonovich -now as soon as you saw this mans name- I know what what you would have said - "Yeah"...Gevonovich with his way of wording his forever graciously worded comments that always make you feel so so good, Gev is someone who I havent met yet - and I do say yet, because this mans kindness towards us all - that includes me - has me thinking that Gev is a friend, a friend who I just have not met - yet.
This man would be in the front line of the greats here in Traditionals all day long.

At Gevs side would be Mike Berkovich, Mike is SUCH great man, he is one of Traditionals consistently kind, helpful and Stellar members we have here, Mike just simply cannot be left out the very good chance of being chosen, Thank you Mike for all you do.

Ron - Half Stop - What a great guy - just a caring, kind person- his massive work in trying to get a monumental Giveaway fort a fellow member - his amazing contribution to us all here - Thank you Ron - my friend.

Mark - marksharp - a great guy who has taken the leap into knifemaking - one heck of a nice guy, kind and thoughtfull - and generous as well - lets not forget this great guy.

Jake - Supratentorial, Super generous the name should be, cares greatly that fakers dont get ya, so helpful and willing to share his knowledge always - Great guy, one who I always enjoy dealing with and know.

Barry - Gunstock Jack -Barry does more than we know - he has helped out Traditionals in so many ways, donated knives, and his time - Super helpful on his business side, and honest as the day is long, Im thankful that we have this great person among us - we are the better for it.

Also something that we probably dont think enough about because these two guys are unseen most of the time...

Gary and Frank, who on a Volunteer basis take SO SO much time out of their lives quite literally to keep Traditonals what they are, probably one of the better spots in what can be such a Dark world of the internet.
We owe the Mods a hell of a lot- even though we I guess get ticked off at them when they pull us in line, but I would say that would be a two sided coin.
Probably the most un-thanked job here on the Porch, so to Gary and to Frank.... Gentleman - Thank you so much.

If the op needs extra knives because he cannot decide - contact me as I will glady throw some knives of Quality to help recognition take its place

In return I would like to nominate Meako, simply because to exist among all the other Aussies must be a living hell, what begun as a convicts Island, pretty much remains as one today, where dog eats dog, its fantastic having Meako as a member here on the Porch, because...well after seeing how these guys exist, makes our world not soo bad after all, Meako deserves recognition for this.

wlfryjr aka Lyle. His passion for Roosters and Farmers is well known as is his gracious demeanor in explaining their characteristics. He is the same in person; I was fortunate to spend some time with him at a show. Another treasure here on The Porch.

Gonna chime in with a couple more for various obvious reasons: Knarfeng, Peregrin, Lyle( Wlfryjr), Campbellclanman, and Waynorth. Gunstock Jack, Jack Black, R8shell, & Pertinux...
Thanks, Neal

I would also like to nominate OldEngineer (aka Harry). He's been very helpful in getting me hooked on Case knives... ;)

Through the years I have received MANY knives from our/ my friends here on the Porch, I would love to name them as well - but there really would not be a tolerance for such a list.
So If I havent mentioned your name/s Im terribly sorry, you are not forgotten - by any means because you all helped me realise that giving is one of the best things that you can do.

I enjoy giving knives - enjoyed great giveaways where we at one time had to band together to wipe out opposition who was trying to over run my give away lol,
I could no count how many knives I have been gifted, this struck me very early on quite deeply to be honest - things mean a great great deal to me, and I always endeavour to continue this- especially here in new Zealand where we do not have depth of Traditional Knife carrying history, some look at me different- well hell you can blame them for that lol - but mainly for carrying a knife- but within a very short time they admire the knife- and can tell that they like it - so many often - who show good value often get a knife from me- its an amazing feeling seeing a persons face light up - and this ALL comes from this place in all honesty - TRADITIONALS - THE PORCH
I have met some of the nicest people I have ever met - here from Traditionals - so to gift just one person is not a job I would like, I just want to say thank you to the many here - I just love this place.
