Give the guy a break. At least he told the truth. Thoughts and actions are separate. Everyone is capable of any act. It's the conscience that separate bad from good. It's easy to ride the high horse. Admitting a failure not so much.

Yep, the thought police are in a self-righteous frenzy

Exactly, OP just thought about it, he didn't actually did it. Don't we all have thoughts that we never follow through because we know that it is wrong? It would be a lack of character if OP actually follow through with it.

^^^

I don't give a damn about someone "thinking" about doing something he shouldn't do, as long as he didn't do it. All of you who've never done that are welcome to pile on. The rest of you (that would be everyone) should probably drop the self-righteous BS.

OP - Your knife was delivered to a box owned by Robert Reynolds. It was signed for by Robert Reynolds. Jonakee Reynolds asked you to send the knife to that box. I assume that you have correspondence of some kind that lays out the terms of your deal. I would do these things, in this order: Call the La Madera post office and tell them what's going on. (Btw - La Madera has a population of fewer than 200 people. The chances are good that the postal workers know Reynolds and would remember this transaction). Ask them the procedure for collecting a parcel mailed to one of their boxes. Ask them if they have surveillance cameras. Assuming you are satisfied that there is no question about who picked up the knife, call Robert Reynolds. If he answers, ask him where your knife is and what his plans are for returning it to you. If you get no answer, leave a message that says exactly what happened and that your next calls will be to the Rio Arriba Sheriff's Office and the US Postal Inspector. If you don't hear back within a few hours, call the Rio Arriba Sheriff's Office.

I don't disagree. I sense that the OP is feeling a bit overwhelmed and is getting all sorts of advice. Naturally, I think mine is the best! The focus needs to be on the guy who has (had?) his knife. This just doesn't seem like it should be too hard to resolve.

^ I agree with HD advice.

i would fly out there and do some fishing.............

^^^ Personally, I would drive, but great advice.

^^^ And I would've had my fishing poles packed yesterday.

Best of luck to the OP, working on getting this crazy mess sorted out. < If you have the time, I would drive out there, visit the post office, the police station, Robert Reynolds, and the kid that you Skyped with. This would cost you a lot less than that 4k knife you shipped.

Edit: and before anyone here reads too far into my post; I'm not advocating for any type of violence/vigilante justice...although I'm sure this has crossed everyone's mind...just like the OP's thoughts of shipping an empty box.....

Wow, some of you are being a little hard on the OP. At the end of the day he is the one who is the victim here despite what he may have thought, etc.
He sent this punk scammer an expensive knife and got nothing in return...............he upheld his end of the agreement.
Yes, it wasn't smart looking at it now, maybe he should not have been so open about his thoughts - but his actions demonstrated that he handled the deal as agreed. My guess is he is pretty upset and somewhat embarrassed to have put himself in this situation. likely not thinking as clearly as normal at this time. I am not sticking up for him entirely - don't know him - but he came here looking for advice and probably some sympathy.
OP - I hope this works out and you get your knife back. a lot of folks gave you some good advice here --- start taking it and get some action going.

This entire debacle came to be because of 1 simple thing........GREED.
OP saw a HUGE score and figured he was dealing with a child. What could go wrong??
He saw red flags and still went ahead with the trade. Why?? GREED.
OP was looking to fleece that kid.
Don't feel bad at all for the outcome.

My feelings as well.

I agree also, he saw an opportunity to make a score and ignored every warning that was there. This may turn out to be an expensive lesson in common sense.

But, the thief is still the main one to blame. He still has the knife. Hopefully things work out, but I would like to hear an update from the OP to see if any more steps have taken place.

I've read a lot of these threads, and held off my comments, but I really do enjoy the education, I get, here.

For me, I think I'd be too paranoid to send a $3,500 knife to a kid that looks like he'd struggle to afford a $35.00 knife. To each his own, I suppose, but I do hope that the OP gets his knife back, regardless of his thoughts about sending an empty box. He didn't send an empty box. Although he thought about sending an empty box, I'm sure that many folks have had thoughts about doing something, that they shouldn't, but never do it. He chose to share his thoughts...

Maybe I'm strange, but I would not consider making a deal then not following through on my part of it. I'm far from perfect, but this is something I would not do, period.

The op is not at fault here. Maybe he thought he was going to make out but that is called capitalism.. and I am all for that . Lots of us buy and sell all the time and loose money most of the time so its all moot at this point . The kids a piece of shit and he needs to send the knife back , sounds like a real rural area and I think this is going to be hard but not impossible to do. But being rural has its benefits. Somehow someway you have to shame this kid into submission . But by him stating him parents don't care actually is probably false and like I said earlier that's where to go .. get the mommy mad and little boy may comply . But a local sheriff can work wonders to . Keep us posted and good luck,

Today's update:

-I was able to talk to the director of the art gallery and he knows Malabika and also knows her son. I told him I was scammed by her Son and would like to talk to her about it. He said he is not going to tell her what I said but will call her and will give her my number to call me back regarding her son .

-Went back to the post office and they said post master received it this morning and is working on it getting it to the Inspector and that they will let me know
soon.

Thank you all that are helping me with the online information research, trust me I'm calling and doing everything I can. Also someone said to fly over there, It's not bad idea but missing 2-4 days of work would put me to the spot where it wouldn't be worth it especially now with all the projects. I may be able to go there later .

Stupidity (Your own words, post #6 ) and Greed got you into this mess where you were taken by a kid for a sizable amount of money, not to mention you yourself were considering sending a empty box. You need to take a serious look in the mirror and figure out how the hell you got to this point.

Oh now........... ""This is PRICELESS""!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I truly hope this gets resolved..
On the flip side..Great views and opinions here to take or leave..
Many many long term members here call it how they see it..

Good or bad.. You jumped.. You took the bait...Here we are..
Looking at the big picture.. Your involvement in BF has not been for the most part
lacking..Thusly perhaps the lack luster opinions...

The empty box thing is merely childlike..Poor character overall..

But do know this..Most of us wish you well with a resolve.. Others just wished
for you..""The Greed"" hadnt got the better of you..

I.E.---Here you are.......Best of luck...

This is the guy I spoke to on the skype: (the one on right)

FWIW, I swear this kid is a former (now banned) member here from some years back. The first pic really looks like the guy, especially that lame emo haircut. I recall a picture showing up on here where he was letting some girls dress him up in clothes and make-up like a cross-dresser. Cannot remember the dork's username for the life of me right now, but I'm sure one of our veteran members will, especially if they hang out in Whine & Cheese.

I could be wrong too. Hope it helps.

With help from a couple other members, I figured out the member I was thinking of. His handle was Boberama. I also then found the pic I was looking for:

Sure looks like it could be the same idiot to me. Stringy dark hair, emo, olive skin, big nose, fat lips, and even appears to have the same mole to the lower right side of his mouth. Liked knives 5 years ago, it's probably safe to assume that he still does. I could be wrong, as the pics aren't the best.

Might be worth asking a Mod to cross-check any of the contact info you have with that former member. HTH!

Greed-no, Stupidity -unfortunately yes

Well let me just say I was able to trade less expensive knives for more expensive knives before simply because the knife was hard to get so it is not uncommon tor trade $1500 for $2000. In this particular case it actually made perfect sense because the DDR is beautiful knife and some people want it bad maybe he didn't want to go sell his knives and risk the DDR will sell ! So it wasn't greed it was good deal he would get rarity and me? Well little more cash not even that much. So for me it was everyday businesses nothing suspicious there. And since he said all his money are tight up up in the knives and than he actually showed me the knife it was perfectly belivebel

Oh man, I think I know what picture you're talking about. I mean this seriously, not jokingly. It was odd so it stood out.

Might go check out Boberama's photobucket page. HERE Kid was in HS in Bakersfield, CA 5-6 years ago. This could definitely be the same guy, if it shows he's 22 now.

That is definitely the same guy. I will also say he is NOT a "kid". He is definitely wellover 18. And seems to be a habitual scammer.
I will also say this, some of you "greed" guys and "trying to fleece a kid" are jumping to conclusions. You don't know either party nor what went thru their minds. I do not make a habit of saying things unless I know the facts. Guess what you don't know any facts. Quite honestly I am somewhat disappointed at some of the members here.
I think you owe the OP an apology, but I will guess that won't be forthcoming.
Basically taking the side of a scammer is quite absurd.

Now I got to say that the OP made an almost impossible screw up here, but he is not the bad guy.

As for others getting on his case about greed I would encourage others to relax on that. $4000 is a lot of money and could make life a lot easier, the thought is not the crime, apparently sharing the thought on BF is. If I thought I was going to get $4000 my palms would sweat, my heart would beat faster and my thoughts would race, that's life changing money for a lot of people, maybe not the OP but still. I'm not saying I would do something illegal, but I sure as heck may not think straight. That's not something I would judge someone on.

Also, OP, I feel for your loss and I don't mean this disrespectfully but this was a super entertaining post. I'm really interested in the conclusion.
