Great Inexpensive knives

No its not. If $400 knives were inexpensive CRK wouldn't be able to keep them in stock. $400 is the weekly take home pay of someone earning $15 an hour. $400 is a new clothes washing machine, $400 is the grocery bill for a family of 4 for 2 weeks. $400 is new car tires, $400 is more than most peoples monthly car payment. $400 is a new handgun. Inexpensive is something you don't need to think about when you buy. Spending $400 is something almost nobody does regularly without careful consideration.

Look, it's not my knife and I don't want to get way off topic like you did and discuss economics and budgets but consider this. I mainly collect knives in the $100-$400 range because that's what my budget allows, therefore I consider an inexpensive knife to be around the $50 range. If someone collects knives only in the $2,000-$5,000 range because they can afford it then a $400 knife is inexpensive to THEM not you. The OP did not say only inexpensive knives below a certain dollar amount. It's all relative to the persons individual situation.

A lot of people discount the combo edge but I think they have their merits

Thanks for the copy paste. What price point do you consider to be low-cost or inexpensive?

I think we all know what the OP was getting at when he used the word inexpensive in the title. That being said, congratulations to all the forum members that think a $400 knife is cheap. I'm happy for you that you're in that situation, be it by your own hard work or very fortunate circumstances. I think that saying a sebenza is an inexpensive knife, in a thread clearly describing knives in a low price bracket, is just a shot at people who either can't or chose not to spend that much on one knife.

Well said. And I just want to add that $400 is 1/3 cost of my first car. But I do agree inexpensive is relative. For an average Joe like me, a $410 knife is definitely NOT inexpensive.

On topic, picked this up today on sale at Cabelas, great Sunday football watching knife, used it several times today already without even opening the blade :D (bottle opener)

Yep, used one this weekend without opening the blade myself. Gotta have one if you are into microbrews.

Knifecenter has these for $17. Cheaper than a half-box of Elysian Space Dust IPA, and capable of popping every top.

Takes up no room in the pocket, neither.

One knife I don't think is taken serious enough is the Buck Spitfire/Slimline. I have a Slimline (a big box store excllusive) that I got to see if I wanted to live with an oho w/clip. I have to say for what it is it's a nice knife. Gets very sharp and with the ovallized spidey hole, easy to open with gloves even. I carried it for a solid 2 weeks and found I just prefer SAKs and trads in my pocket, nothing against the knife.
If you do a search, there's even an S30V version available for not very much which I'm tempted to get because it's S30V for less than 50 bucks.

Its been a while since I bought an inexpensive knife but about a month ago I picked up a Buck Bantam (BHW model) on a whim and I have been pretty impressed by it. Not a fancy steel but nobody does 420HC better than Buck. I really like the blade shape and the Kryptek camo handles look great. The knife feels excellent ergonomically too. Only $25!!

Jeepers........I was at a wedding a few weeks ago and chatted it up with a friend of mine that's worth a little north of $35M, and he was complaining that the price of Bud Light had gone up again. I'm betting he knows what an inexpensive knife looks like.

Yes! The majority of my knives are in the $160-$260 dollar range but i still appreciate a good knife no matter the price. the leek is a very good and practical knife that would serve me well even if it were my only knife.

I don't spend much on knives. I agree with the prev post about the Buck 110 being one of the best "cheap" knives out there. Yesterday I went to buy one at a well known, found everywhere retailer, but they were out. instead I picked up this little guy for less than $30. Made in the USA, 420hc steel. Solid lock back. It fills the gap between my rat 1 and 2 perfectly.

What is this one? There is one left at my local shop, but I didn't look closely enough to see it was made in the US. Is it worth while?

The 400 dollar discussion has really ruined this thread. Esee zancudo is a nice frame lock can be had for 27 dollars!

Very much so. I think it's a crazy good buy. It's the Buck Ascend LT (715). WallyWorld special ed by Buck. You can see a thread on it over in the Buck sub-forum. For $30, it's every bit as good if not better than my Rat2. The back lock feels sturdier. No blade play. It's also slimmer. One handed opening is tough but doable. I understand the 420HC is considered pedestrian by many but it's good solid steel and Buck's heat treat is known to be great.
Size wise, it's between the Rat1 and Rat2 (my other "budget" EDC's - which I now understand makes me cheap :thumbdn:).
Here's a couple of other pics. Notice I placed a touch of duct tape on the top of the hole to make one handed opening a little gentler on the thumb.
