Grizzly 2x42 Attachments!

I just heard back from the guy who had trouble getting 42 inch belts to fit on his 8 inch wheel. He was able to simply shorten the arm I made a bit and then it fit. So from now on out I will make the arms shorter and that should allow any 42 inch belt to fit over an 8 inch contact wheel. 👍

Yet another question. Is there a recommended size for the upper or rear small wheel on the attachment? I’m assuming the purpose of the wheel is to flatten the belt so the belt better conform to the radius of the front wheel….

You are correct the rear idler wheel is to flatten the belt and give more clearance for grinding around the front wheel. So typically a larger 3/4 or 1 inch wheel works well in the back and a smaller 1/4-3/8 wheel works well in the front. The back wheel isn't necessary unless you need the clearance and the wheels can be flipped around if you need the larger one in front.

Well look what arrived! And a day earlier!!
Looks like I have unboxing to do. I already cleared a spot on the bench for it, so now it’s time to remove some of the guards and investigate the tracking hinge I’ve read so much about….
Patiently awaiting all mods and belts on order…

Guards are removed. I also drilled and replaced the hinge pin.
The small wheels arrived today so now I’m waiting for the Contender Mods.
So far I’m pretty happy with the tracking. I did run some tape around the center of the drive wheel and the tracking wheel. For now it tracks evenly on all 4 wheels. I’m sure it will wander, depending upon pressure against the belt.

A note to those considering drilling the hinge-
Be sure to clamp it securely in a vise so it cannot twist and bend it out of alignment.
Ask me how I know.
I started on the drill press but got antsy can clamped it incorrectly in the post vice. The cordless drill tweaked it a bit. Arrrgh!!

ETA: I took a closer look at the 8” rubber wheel I have but that won’t work as it’s designed for a spindle. Dang it.
On a happier note, The Contender Mods arrived!! Everything looks great. Already swapped out the platen and gave the small wheel attachment a go.
New belts are on the way…..
ETA: I found a local shop that will bore the hub to accept bearings so that’ll save me a few bucks.
I may tack on a piece of steel for a safety shelf for the glass platen. I use double sided carpet tape to mount the glass. While I have never had one come loose I still like the added measure if safety.

This is a presale for the work rests, platens and small wheel attachments I made for the Grizzly 2x42 Grinder.

I can ship a limited number of these within a week and after that it’ll likely be after the 1st of the year before I can fill the rest of the orders. I’ll do this on a first come first serve basis so either post what you’d like below here or send me a direct message/email to get in line!

I won’t require any payment up front. I will send invoices via PayPal when I have each individual order ready.

Price list:

5x12 inch work rest. Will fit with either the standard work rest arm or the drop down work rest arm. - $50

Standard work rest arm. Allows quick tilting up to 15 degrees either forward or backwards. - $14

Drop down work rest arm. Allows for more access to the platen to allow better use of a grinding jig. Only tilts backwards 15 degrees. Does not tilt forward more than a few degrees. - $15

Flat platen. 2x5.25x1/4 inch mild steel. Mounts with 2 flathead screws. - $12

Pair of platen brackets. These allow side to side as well as forward to back adjustment of the platen. They also allow better access to the left side of the platen in comparison to the factory platen. - $18 per pair

Case hardened Radius platens. I don’t have any of these ready as they will have to go off to heat treat. I’ll make whatever size you’d like upon request. These will be 1018 steel case hardened to 60Rc - $50

Small wheel attachment. These are made to run the standard small wheels available from several suppliers. The attachment excepts 7/8 OD bearings spaced 3 1/8 inches apart (Roughly 3.15 true measurement). The attachment includes a tool arm but does NOT include any wheels. It takes up to 2 wheels with the second acting as an idler to redirect the belt. - $70

Shipping/tax will be added on to your total.

Anyone who spends $50 or more I will add a 5% discount.

Either put a reply in here with what you’d like and I will contact you or send me a private message or email.

Here’s some pictures of what to expect for finished products. These are bare steel, no paint or plating of any kind. Please keep in mind that these grinders are built cheap. I can’t insure that the attachments will fit them all exactly the same. If anyone runs into trouble with stuff not fitting your grinder please let me know!

Also, if anyone has anymore ideas for attachments you might want built feel free to reach out to me.

Thanks,

-Darren

Are you still offering these? If not does anyone know where I can get these for this grizzly? Thanks!!
