GSO 20 request thread

Very nice looking design redwood22! I keep checking this thread every day in hopes to read about the GSO-20 getting some traction.

Thanks Gray! I think they might be purposefully keeping this thread in a blindspot. I am sure adding a 20" chopper/sword would be a ton of hassle in the midst of the starters, but I am happy to help keep the dream alive!

Ooooooh!

Super excited to see you post in here. :)

I think we're all on the same page and don't expect any official response soon.

But.... when the time comes, there will be a lot of excited people. And we will be ready.

A bit OT, but anyway. :) Would you trust this guy to give you a haircut? Maybe that's how Guy trims his beard btw? ;)

That was awesome. If Chiral can shave with a GSO I guess hair cutting is the next step!

Lmao. No way in hell. But I keep mine to the scalp. I don't trust my wife to cut mine. I do all my own hair cuts with no mirror. (Thinking about it maybe that's what's wrong with me.)
Nothing wrong with that, I'm my own hair stylist as well

This almost calls for a new thread - "Show your S!K haircuts!" I'll let you guys start it this time... ;)

Redwood, I can't stop thinking about your design. I was intrigued before, but now I'm seriously excited!

Thanks Silver! I am half heartedly looking into getting a prototype made somehow, gives me a new appreciation for the value in the survive line...stock cpm 3v is expensive! thats before you even do anything to it...

You are ambitious! If it were me I'd start with a wooden cutout or something easily obtainable just to get a feel for the dimensions. But then I don't know the first thing about creating stuff like that.

I can imagine raw pieces of 3v are not cheap, sometimes that makes me concerned about Guy's prices being too low to be sustainable. But again, I know nothing on the matter.

haha, I would definitely make one out of wood or something else first, but wanted to price out an actual model before i went through all the trouble of making anything. We always joke "quality, speed, affordability" ...pick 2. I think he made the right call :P but I am sure it leads to headaches. By collecting a batch of orders they can buy in bulk which helps lower costs. All that said, I still can't list a better value, and they don't unnecessarily ding you the larger the blades get.

My man, that is the absolute truth!

I love the "pick 2" idea, very true as well. I have to say there was a point in my life when I thought "maybe I'll look for a used SK because $150 seems like a lot for one knife". Over $200 for a GSO seemed crazy to me. But if you look around at similar products, I can't find a single company that can do what Guy does for a similar price. The price is either higher or the knife is not as good (junk sheath, no sheath, cheap handle material or blade material). Clearly I wised up from a few years ago.

Awesome work, redwood22

Ignorant question:

Why the broom-stick handle? I know that it is traditional for Japanese swords, and that it can be sufficiently comfortable with the proper oval shape, but does it need to be that style? Just curious. I haven't tried any of his knives, but I know that Gavko produces some large blades with a different handle shape, e.g. (picks grabbed from web)

Guy's GSO-12 handle is presumably just for one-hand, but could it be elongated for a 20? Or maybe something like the Buck Compadre Froe or Hatchet? Just random thoughts to keep the discussion alive.
