No worries! I'm learning a lot here and appreciate your sharing your experiences.
Welcome to the family. You'll find the people in this forum are very helpful. There isn't nearly the amount of snobbery around here that you might find in other maker's Forums... Not naming any names.

We don't follow blindly, but Survive! has earned a loyal following, and we can recommend them with confidence. There are some very solid people around here.

Do you currently own a S!K? If not... Man, your life is about to change!

I think either would be great, but personally I figured the extra length of the 3.5 would help for camp kitchen use. Plus the thin blade would make a nice skinner. But hell if your skilled enough you can fillet a trout with a 5.1. I'm not to S!K master like some though. It really depends on your uses mainly.

Sorry to hear that f.2 I hope it wasn't here. All regulars here and just about any guest I've seen come through are typically very friendly and helpful.

What would be the best pair for the 4.7 for lighter tasks ? 2.7 or 3.5?

I'd say 2.7 because it is more of a contrast to the 4.7. Depending what you need to do because the 4.7 is so medium, you might not even need a companion. Not to talk you out of a GSO, though!

I really like my 3.5s... But I ordered a 2.7, because... Well... Uh... Because I "needed" one of those, too. The 2.7 is new to the lineup, so none of us have put it through its paces, yet. The 3.5 will be more versatile, but the 2.7 will be a size I am more likely to wear EDC as a utility blade, and may be a better Skinner than the 3.5. I won't tell you which to choose. Just consider your intended use for the blade and trust your decision.

The beauty about S!K knives is that you cannot go wrong. If you find you prefer a different knife in the lineup, causing one to fall into disuse... Sell or trade it on the exchange. They don't lose value. I rarely see anything for less than a 10% discount in used condition.

You can trust your decision when you "own the advantage." #dropsthemic

This will be my first. You're right as rain of course - posted in another S!K thread in another forum and it was quickly ignored.
I try to follow most of the active threads in BladeForums re: Survive! where I feel I may add value. I'm sorry you had a bad experience. You're in the right place now.

I suppose my question doesn't matter too much since only the 3.5 is left for pre order.

You'll still be able to get a 2.7 though.

This is a good point. I think my overall excitement for the future got a boost when Ellie unveiled their new "sell a batch of stuff every Monday" plan. My mind was set in the cycle of production run, then wait until they cycle back to that model a year or so later. Now the possibilities seem greater for being able to get what you want more or less when you want it.

Thanks forte_defense. Is Micarta the same as canvas?

Micarta is a trademark name originally used by Westinghouse for materials in a phenolic resin. That is why we don't use the term and just refer to them as canvas or linen. Technically, either of them could be a Micarta. Guy was saying Wikipedia even says the G10 could be considered a Micarta.

But yes, in the knife world people tend to use the term micarta for canvas.

I just got schooled. Thank you, ma'am.

Yep that idea should work out pretty well and hopefully the bitching and crying will stop with wait times. I'm hoping to score one with a brass bow drill divot and a custom engraving!

Do those who have seen them in person prefer the black or the green canvas? I usually lean towards black, but they look kind of washed out in the picture.
