We live in the world of information technology and logistics. It shouldn't be too difficult to put that in place. Your order number is 5500, we are currently processing orders 4000-4100 and we are shipping roughly 50 a day.. Eta: 3-4 weeks

With due respect, that will open another can of worms. In their business, I don't think order B necessarily follows order A and don't be too surprised if order D gets fulfilled firstly, because of the options people have to customize their orders. Just a though!

I love the "i haven't received mine so no one else should receive theirs" attitude. waiting sucks, but cliches aside, you wouldn't be waiting if it wasn't worth it.

I hope we don't have to experience this with every single model.

Couple of boxes of old spec knives just waiting to be sold for scrap???? Ellie send them my way anytime!

I was wondering who was going to catch that. Those aren't leaving the shop. The new stuff is too nice. The old spec knives are in the past, we only go forward.

I can appreciate that, I have supported you and Guy from the beginning, I know how hard it must be starting in a new location-I respect that immensely-I have never previously had any criticism of the Survive Brand-However I would no longer post the dates when a knife that people have been waiting for over a year on the website, and if a knife I had waited for showed up not sharpened or had a spot on it, I would send it Back!!! I realize it is not Fun and games for you and Guy, success does not come without a Price! Continue to support your efforts and wish you continued success.

I understand the frustration with seeing a date up there. Like I said before, we won't make everyone happy. When we send out a monthly update newsletter I always get a couple replies angry because the information is "vague and meaningless". I will make some updates to the wording on the Production Schedule. I have a few ideas, it is just a matter of tact.

A few other things I wanted to point out since it seems like things have settled down now:

S!K commonly lists 'seconds' for sale before shipping out 'firsts', since they find (or accidentally make) the 'seconds' as they are putting the 'firsts' together. For example, Guy is sharpening a blade ... and a cat jumps on his head ... or he is distracted by Ellie sashaying across the room... etc., and he marrs the edge of the knife = 'second' :) Someone else getting a 'second' does nothing to slow your 'first' or mine. Don't worry, they'll come when they come. We're all good

If the edge is ever messed up for any reason the blade is scrap. Guy is very particular about the edges so even the Factory 2nds will have a good straight edge on them.

There would not be ANY factory seconds available if it was not for the Pre-Orders to get Survive up and running-All about Perspective! Web Site says 4.7's will ship out through April, it is now April 29th-Nothing

This is just not true. We didn't NEED the SURVIVE! Starter to still be in business, we would still be just fine. The Starter campaign did two things: 1) It guaranteed a consistent finish by allowing us to get the equipment in house. 2) It allowed us to greatly increase our production numbers, on both a per run level and overall level. Even with those benefits, we did not come up with the Starter campaign for those reasons. In fact, I told Guy no when he first pitched it to me. The SURVIVE! Starter happened because people were overwhelmingly upset that they couldn't place an order. Customers wanted to get an order in, so we let them.

Circle around back to my post a while back about the Monday orders, no matter what we do people are angry for some reason or another.

Which would lead to Order #3999 for a GSO-12 asking me "why their order hasn't shipped yet, the schedule says..."

Ok, guess I read the initial Reasoning why the Survive Pre-orders were offered-I thought I was helping a small business get on their feet-My Apologies-I will not post on this thread any more-PM sent

Preorders are helping a small business, and I don't want to be misunderstood, we are incredibly thankful to everyone who has trusted us enough to make that investment. But the Starter did come about because people were upset about the last of the old spec GSO-5.1 and GSO-5 runs selling out so quickly, not because we were at risk of going out of business.

Edit to add the link to the Starter Pages. It is the first few sentences for the whole campaign.

 I ... that's ... people are buying knives of inferior materials and design while y'all are sitting on older models???

My apologies, I was aiming for an absurd comment but apparently took it a step too far. I never meant to imply that Guy would send out an imperfect cutting edge :)

= "Take my money! I understand that there is no guaranteed delivery date, but I am patient - I swear, cross-my-heart - so take my money already!!!"

I am grateful for the Starter. I didn't ask for it, but when I saw the discounts offered and the schematics of the new designs, I jumped in. I look forward to the arrival of the 4.7... and 4.1... and 3.5... and 12... and I mustn't buy another 10 because I already have one and like it well enough (really a lot, actually) and spent too much on knives as it is :D

You guys need to cut Ellie and Guy some slack
They are a smsll company that make an awesome product so of course there will be some waiting
I hope they stay a small conpany dedicated to quality rather than a big outfit for several reasons :
- more employees equals more variability in QC
- large companies are less flexible to adapt and develop new products
- many smaller companies have failed when they grew too fast

Keep up the good work !
As any survivor knows, patience is a virtue lol

I know you were just trying to come up with a crazy example, but reading typed words is subjective and depends on the reader. Someone who is here frequently and is used to your style of writing would likely know better, but someone else may not. When it comes to the written word I just try to make sure the facts are all out there so that things can't be taken out of context. This is particularly true for this topic since there has been an uptick in questions regarding the Factory 2nds after the GSO-5.1s sold out. I am learning that there are a lot of misconceptions out there regarding Factory 2nds. So much so that at lunch we actually discussed and started brainstorming how to provide better information to folks on that topic.

With that said, I know our moods also have a large effect on how our words come across. My comment might have come across harsher than intended just because this has been a particularly rough week for me. I don't think you went too far on your comment, in fact, it is pretty hard to offend me. I apologize if I offended anyone this week, definitely not my intention.

My initial question was only to get a feel for those who regularly, or not, visit this web site, as to who might have had the April fulfillment.
So my question would now be rephrased to Survive! Ellie, as to what the percentage of knives ordered as 4.7's, either as preorders or presales, have in fact been shipped?
That should be an easy estimate and wouldn't reflect on the total number of orders, only an estimate as to what we might expect in terms of completed order shipments.

Just some points to consider to help with the frustration on the seconds before first topic..

** The percentage of Seconds is still very small compared to firsts..

** Getting a second is like winning the lottery, they sell out so fast monday..

** I was able to win the "lottery" monday and bought a 4.7 second... I am one of those lucky guys getting my second before you get your first BUT... I also have several pre-order knives from April 2015 with many more months to go before I will see them.. so the ONE 4.7 seconds I was able to win in the monday lottery is going to a good cause to someone who will be waiting for his orders probably longer then you.

well something like that...

With the very last of the GSO-5.1s now either shipped or sitting in a box awaiting shipment, I'm working on the GSO-4.7s with almost 100% of my focus. They are being finished and put in the mail as fast as we can. I'm not really inclined to say what percentage of the orders have shipped, as it doesn't really matter. If anything the question seems a bit loaded. Whether I say 25%, 50%, or 90%, your knife isn't going to arrive any sooner or later than it was going to anyway. I'm not holding out or purposely delaying anything but I also won't rush either.

The quality of each and every thing that leaves our shop is my primary concern and I refuse to sacrifice that for anyone or anything, for any reason. Almost always, that means the way I do things is slower, harder and more tedious. Every improvement I conceive and implement seems to be more involved, which as a consequence usually means it is something else that I feel the need to do personally. It is the only way I can ensure it is being done properly. I'm not too proud to admit that I'm a perfectionist and a bit of a control freak if I don't believe something is being done correctly. (A quick glimpse into the future, our standard is about to get even more crazy) I know that the wait can be hard, especially these days, in a world where the pace is always more and faster. I should have had the good sense to start my business in the 1800's. I believe things were probably more my pace back then. I'll just close this out by saying if you have an order I can absolutely promise that it will ship as soon as I have it completed.

I used to whine about paying up front and waiting. Then I received my first Survive! knife; I don't whine anymore. I've got 4 on order now, from pre-order to pre-sale. I'll get them when I get them. IT's not like my life depends on it.

I have actually pondered a solution to the wait anxiety.... it is this,

Just order one of each model before pre-ordering closes.. Then once time catches up.. I will be getting a knife every month.. it will be like a knife of the month club..
:).

Pardon my ignorance, but what is pre-ordering? I have been throwing this phrase around without even knowing what it means!

I know what pre-production ordering is and judging from their current production schedule, when a product goes into production then the ordering window closes and that model may only become available again to be ordered during a Monday's sale as a 2nd or other types of promotional sale. Do I have this correctly thus far?

While we are at it, what is pre-sale? Is that what they were called back in 2011 or so when this company started and everything was either on the drawing board or as pre-production sample?

For me the above quote with the preceding explanation is reasonable and something I could live with. The frustrating thing for me is that I have been led on for four months with, at best, overly optimistic ship dates. I get having a delay or two but in early December you guys said these would be out by Christmas. That's four months!!

At this point I feel like I've been jerked around. Fool me once...

Pre Ordering as per SK is a prepayment up front done so in a Specific Time window.. once that window closes, the up front money from the prepayment (pre purchases aka "preorders") is allotted towards buying the materials. Since at the end of the window, SK knows exactly how much sales it has it can know exactly how much to buy without going over or under demand. It's a really slick system actually. Normally im not a fan of up front money but considering it's a targeted build built to order, it's fair and good for a small company. Before SKs preorder system, SK had to wayyyy under produce a given model which led to an effective "lottery" system of random sales that sold out in minutes.. You think long wait times are frustrating? try a lottery system you could never win.. (been there done that).. Preorder is still the fairest system imo.

So it's all semantics! Would it be too rude to call it pay-for-play (at a later date) :p
