Easy to run them through a bead blaster, too, since they are removable.
Gotta say I disagree with this. When I ordered my 5.1 pre-sale, I spec'd green canvas micarta, as it is my favorite color, and canvas has been the best scales for grip. What I got, while being quite attractive, was nowhere near the grippiness I was expecting, and was rather disappointing. The linen scales on my ESEE and TOPS knives are much more grippy, especially dry. The 5.1 scales are ok when wet, but still not as grippy as the linen in other knives. I'm not sure what is going on with these, but totally different from what I was expecting. My plan is to take some 80 grit sandpaper to them and see if I can fought them up. If that doesn't work, I'll probably work a pattern into them similar to my RMD's.
Both. But primarily too smooth.

Silver posted it in the video thread also. Hopefully it'll work for you.

Is this the one the gal did? I did see that one.
Could be. But since I "treated" them with 80-grit and washed with detergent, I can agree with everything you were saying about the micarta. Love it!
That is a really nice surprise/gift! Having 10+ gso's being sharpened and then being shipped I bet was a bit of a worry until they arrived all safe and sound at your house. I have 6 being given a little tlc as well and I never followed a postal tracking# as often as that one. It was like sending an arm/leg in the mail-LOL.
The more I see comparison pics of the 4.7 to the 4.1 and 5 the more I can't wait to get one in hand.
That is a nice gift...Guy definitely takes care of his customers.
I got a shipping notification last Wed but I thought it was to get my 10+ knives back from being from resharpened. I called Guy to thank him for sharpening the knives and he there might be something extra in the package and there was!! I got a pre-production sample 4.7!!!!
What a knife!!!! Granted I am giddy about getting it but it might end up being my new favorite knife. I only got to "play" with it for about 10 minutes but I am really impressed with the ergonomics of the handles and the new micarta treatment. I also love the redesign of my beloved GSO 5. I was skeptical when I heard that he was moving away from the GSO 5. But I LOVE this knife.
THANK YOU GUY AND ELLIE for the knife!!!!!!!
I am glad it worked out!! When I read your second to last post I thought of my older and worn S!K handles. They aren't slick but they are nothing like the new ones and I simply believe I've worn them out. I use a steel or a bronze brush as well as dawn to bring it back. I suspect the new scales and Guy's new treatment will make the handles last a bunch longer than the older handles. Please post any pictures if you groove your handles. I'd love to see them.
