Thanks Jack! That looks like a great size for a general purpose FB! I hope you have a great Sunday my friend! :D

Boy, Dwight, Great Image to show how nice your Rosewood HHB is, Thank you for the nice words
Thanks Harvey.

Wow! your Rosewood looks black Dwight?
It really is most unusual on the pile side.:)

Except when it comes to mowing the grass..
True that David! Two hours on a large commercial ZTR.

I'll post a pic of the last time I had a lambsfoot in my pocket, cos I know some of you like pie :D A pub crawl in Liverpool on Thursday. This is the bar of The Lion pub.
Gorgeous pub interior! Looks like mahogany.

Could the Ebony be any blacker?
The best Ebony I have ever had the pleasure of holding.

Excellent pic, I had thought they were raspberries, they look delicious - as does your AC! :D

Good Morning Guardians

Smashing photo John :)

Prester John Prester John , @dc50, @cigarrodog, @pjsjr, Fodderwing Fodderwing , @JaxBaron, Half/Stop Half/Stop , Jack Black Jack Black , @Cambertree thank you so much for your kind comments on my little trip report. I'm glad you enjoyed reading it!

Here's a pic for which I used the tripod, but when I showed it to my wife, she declared that I have a lot to learn about the role of tripods in photography! :( But I'll work on it!
tripod-knife-jpg.1156407

LOL! Great photo, GT!

I should have known I couldn’t make it all day without a Lambsfoot! :D

Why even try? ;)

That's cool Greg :) Bar towels seem to have disappeared here, replaced by plastic drip-mats :( Most climbers here used to carry one for wiping the soles of their rock-shoes before starting to climb, not sure what they use now

Yeah, you just see drip-mats here, too. Interesting about the climbers using them. I don't recall ever seeing anyone carry anything to wipe their climbing shoes, but most of the places where I've climbed have been very dry so a quick dust-off with your hand was about all that was necessary.

Thanks Greg, yes as well as Jack’s advocacy of the Lambsfoot, it was your early posts and thoughtful Knife of the Year award (in 2015 or ‘16?) which prompted me to seek out this fine working knife pattern.

In fact, thinking back to those earlier days of this and the other Lambsfoot threads, it’s possible that Jack’s objectives have been realised in ways we could never have imagined!

We have superb quality contemporary Sheffield Lambsfoot knives being made, on par with, or exceeding the Lambsfoots of the past; we have two superlative American made Lambsfoot versions; many traditional knife enthusiasts in the US are now aware of the pattern, and I can’t remember the last time Jack had to patiently explain what the difference between a sheepsfoot and a Lambsfoot was!

Thanks for your thoughts on my signature ovine trio, my friend.

Here’s a quick pic:

Looks delicious! I have an excellent recipe for harissa I’ve adapted and modifed, which I can send you if you like.

I'd forgotten that you didn't have a Lambsfoot when this thread started. That KotY would have been 2016, since I wasn't around for the 2015. I'm glad to hear that it played a part in convincing you to give the pattern a try.

And, yes, Jack's steadfast lambsfoot advocacy is certainly paying dividends. Not to mention his tireless effort to have made several very special models available.

Thanks for taking of photo of that trio. It's great to see a patina forming on the Lambshank.

And, yes, please! I'd love to have your recipe for harissa.

Nice edge! It's ready for work.

Dwight and Ron, that was quite a one-two Stag punch you guys left in the thread there. :)

So, do you have the classic 'Border Collie track' worn through the grass, all around the inside of your fenceline?!

I hope you and all the other Guardians in Cali escaped any harm or property damage from the earthquake.

No, but we do have divots in our loose crushed stone pathways from his enthusiastic direction changes when chasing balls that take a bounce. :D

Thanks for your concern on the earthquake (now earthquakes), Chin. I'm well north of the area that was affected. I also hope that any Guardians we have in Southern California are OK and unaffected.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend :) Our weather forecasters got it wrong again, so I ended up carrying a lot of spare clobber, but had a great day nonetheless, even if one of the pubs I called at on my 10-mile hike had recently closed

I'm glad you had a great day. I originally misread this and thought you said "cobbler" and I was expecting to either see some dessert or wonder why you were carrying a shoe maker. ;)

One thing I have observed regarding Lambsfoot knive.. They tend to multiply like rabbits.:)

:D You only need one, but why take the risk. :)

Good morning Guardians! :) Hope y’all have a great day! I’ve got these two on board this morning for the Women’s World Cup Final! Go Team USA!!!:thumbsup::D:D

A lovely pair, and a fitting tribute to the USWNT. I'll be watching the game, too. In the mean time, I've got the Tour de France (Stage 2; Team Time Trial) on in the background while I catch up on the thread. It's a good day for extremely well conditioned athletes.

A lambsfoot will soon be in my pocket. I'm just not sure which. :)

I just had to go back and read an old article of mine from 1992 as I couldn't remember for certain how we all carried our bar towels - just tucked into the rear of the harness! :D There was a bit of an art of getting onto the rock without getting mud all over the 'sticky rubber'! Some guys even carried a nail brush and water, and back in the day, I've even heard of one or two characters warming the rubber with a blow-torch! :D

I'm glad you had a great day. I originally misread this and thought you said "cobbler" and I was expecting to either see some dessert or wonder why you were carrying a shoe maker. ;)

I wouldn't have minded some peach cobbler! :D

This one's for you, Jack Black Jack Black .

Thanks Greg, great pic :) It's hard to believe that Tetley's have effectively disappeared, they owned the vast majority of pubs in Yorkshire at one time

Does anybody have any idea what this might be (not the Barlow!)? I saw it on a market stall a couple of weeks ago, and having no idea what it was, I asked the seller. He said he'd had it on his stall for two years, and had not been able to find out. I thought it was a rule or measuring stick at first, but it's an irregular length (15 1/8"), and it has a taper. It has been turned on a lathe as you can see the marks on the ends. I thought maybe it was some Dad's Army Captain's 'swagger stick, but why the taper? It's a bit long for a bung. So if anyone knows, I'm all ears

Looks like a "tire knocker" to me Jack. Truckers walk around their rig slapping the tires as they go to make sure none are flat or real low on air.

Thanks Dwight, that's a great insight, always fascinating to hear about the things different professions use :)

I wondered if it might be an artist's mahl stick, but I'm not sure there'd be any reason to give it a taper?

Edit - Ah, but it seems good ones ARE tapered! It seems a little thick for a mahl stick though.

There must be some way outta here,

There's too much confusion,
I can't get no relief. :)

Stellar stag, Vince!:thumbsup::cool: "All Along the Watchtower" is one of those likable, but inscrutable, Dylan songs. Do you prefer the Dylan obversion or the Hendrix cover?

...
I'm glad you're able to keep your RWLFHHB around for "unofficial enjoyment". :D
...
:) And thanks for the engaging post on your Sebastopol adventure, Greg!:cool::thumbsup:

Don't fret. You're not alone. And you won't be the last.

A couple of ideas come to mind. Want to post a pic? I'm sure fellow Guardians will have some ideas, too. Perhaps advising by PM if Jack doesn't want to get too much maintenance talk here?
Thanks, fellas I've been playing around with a DMT extra fine diamond and it seems somewhat better. Your right we won't discuss maintenance here, onward and upward. :D
Is this "no maintenance talk" a new policy for the thread?? I must have missed the memo! Maintenance discussions contain some of the most valuable info in the thread, IMHO!:thumbsup::cool:

Okay Jack Black Jack Black - I got one. Now what? Get more I guess. Oh, since this is an American manufactured knife based on a traditional English pattern, I thought it only appropriate to include an English coin in the picture. I have no idea what the coin is but there it is for what it's worth.

ED and Ron, those ebony Waynorth Lambsfoots are certainly dignified and dressy, but I'll bet they're also do-it-all jacks of all trades!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks for posting that "That Darn Cat" clip, Gary. I've been using that phrase lately about one of our recent family additions! Gotta see that movie again.
Glad I could help out, Vince. ;) I'm sure your new cat will have the family trained before too long!

Thank you Gary. Listen...You strive. I strive. We all strive to be better. You’re shooting great. Keep doing what you’re doing. Love what you did with your HHB on the tripod. Also, that tripod looks perfect for table top shooting. If you end up liking using a tripod, then consider getting a cable release for the camera. Of course you might already have one.:)
Thanks, as always, for the advice, Harvey. :) One thing I've learned is that I need adequate light for good photos, and with my little camera set on "AUTO", that usually means outdoors light. I'd like to develop the ability to take indoor shots (especially in the dead of winter ), too, but my little flash on the cheap camera is too "focused" to get good results for shiny knives. So I'm thinking about trying more manual control and slower shutter speeds to allow more light. The tripod (and cable release you suggest) should help minimize "camera shake" for the slower shutter. (Another approach I want to explore is a homemade "lightbox" where I can bring more, but diffused, light indoors.)

...
Yes thanks GT, just a sleep defecit I think, and maybe a little dehydration

LOL! :D You're very welcome Gary, I actually bought that inexpensive tripod a couple of years ago when we were having a discussion about them, and have kept forgetting to send it to you  I think the legs extend too, though it might not be stable like that
...
Or at least use the timer to set a delay
Sounds like you had a night on the town, Jack! ;):thumbsup:
I haven't explored all of the tripod features yet, Jack, but I'll definitely check for telescoping legs. (The tripod is currently in my office.) Setting my shutter on a 2-second delay (since I apparently use full body motion to press the shutter button and shake the camera simultaneously ) and using Macro setting were two steps that produced a quantum leap in the quality of my photos!:cool::cool:

Gary, thanks, I don't know much about yucca...yours must be a decorative strain...it is very attractive. I say this and can't post a photo of the yucca around here that grows wild, because it's raining with some lightning. I will get pics tomorrow and be able to show you the difference. If an animal were to jump in the middle of the yucca around here they would be cut and punctured, no doubt about it!
Thanks. :) Looking forward to seeing your species of yucca, Preston.

Chin, the handle of your Unity lambsfoot in the chestnut pic looks (to me) eerily similar to that of the jigged bone Waynorth Lambsfoot!:cool:

I liked the "Quieting Syrup" ad, but was even more intrigued by the clipping's content below the advertisement. ;)

I enjoyed your progress report on the state of Jack's lambsfoot objectives.:thumbsup::cool:

Stacks of Stunning Stag, Dwight & Ron & Dave (congrats on the arrival of your Hartshead :thumbsup::thumbsup:) & OG (congrats on the ebony Waynorth :thumbsup::cool:) & Harvey!:cool::cool::thumbsup:
OG, I almost got lost staring into your Stagmuda Triangle!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

If Jack Black Jack Black doesn't mind, a quick word about rounded off tips.

When you are sharpening, do not let the tip of your knife blade slip off the stone, rod, or whatever you are using to sharpen your knife. Instead, stop your sharpening stroke just before the blade tip is at the end of the stroke and then lift the blade from the sharpener - stone, rod, etc..

This not only applies to lambfoot blades but other pointy blades - clip, etc.
Thanks for the advice, ED.:thumbsup::cool: I think @r8shell has given very similar warnings.

Stately old school Barlow, FBC!:cool::thumbsup:

Good to see the Barlow Bros out and about again, Jack!:cool::thumbsup: I've decided that one of the reasons I'm so drawn to that central ridge of stag on the mark side of your HHB is that it reminds me of the prominent veins on the back of my right hand!:D:thumbsup:

Thanks Jack!

I feel like such an idiot! I tried Lambfoots, Lambfoost, and of course Slambfoot, before I finally gave up!
Good point, Matt! :D:D There are 9 possible locations for that pesky "s"!
