True Harvey, though I only bought that one just to see how badly it was made! :D Great cap my friend (well done Barry), and that's a smashing pic :)

Not even sure how far behind I am, Guardians, but here's some posts I found interesting this week.

Jake was hanging out while I did some work on the wife's car.
...
Jake's rosewood is looking very fit; that ski wax seems to be working well!!:cool::thumbsup:

:D True GT ! I could not help it, got bitten by the love bug !
Now ... try to date the pastor's daughter with the whole congregation scrutinizing your every move at every turn ;)
Not for the faint of heart ! :D
True! Probably not a very private courtship! ;)

Your ironwood is looking appealing, Vince, and I like the ovine background.:thumbsup::cool: I enjoyed those Herriot books! :)

The floors are super nice.
Can't wait for the rest of the work to be done now.

Thank you, GT. :)
I might actually have to go out and do something nice when we hit 35. :D
Glad to hear that the work is turning out well, John!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
I'm pleased you can get some use from it my friend, how is the action? It might be worth polishing and/or oiling the wood after sanding :) I have a trip over to Sheffield on Friday

Not the first time I've gone nuts Gary! :D I eat a lot of them, but I usually have to buy them from the store. The ghost-pigeon is still there despite the rain we've had over the past couple of days. It's a window I can't get to, and window-cleaners are a nearly extinct species here. Hopefully it'll eventually fade and die! o_O ;)

LOL! :D It is one of several bottle-openers I have been gifted by friends here, I like it, and it always gives me a chuckle :D Nice pic there, and I'm looking forward to seeing which Lambsfoot comes next :)
Your HHB looks fine Gary! The Rosewood appears just a little too dry in my humble opinion. :)
...
Good idea about the rosewood on my LamBarJack, Jack & Ron.:cool::thumbsup: I had to do some final finishing on it with 0000 steel wool, then rubbed some beeswax into it. It's looking a little darker and richer now. :)

My poor old eyes completely misinterpreted that photo the first time you posted it, Jack! I thought you had somehow captured an image of a strange mist rising from the garden, noticed that someone with imagination could see a pigeon in that misty form, and then made up a cock-and-bull story to go with it. But the thump you originally mentioned was real, and a pigeon literally crashed into that window and left an imprint, just like in the cartoons!! :D:rolleyes:

My lambsfoot this week has been Man Jack, the stag "senator".:cool::thumbsup:

Your ebony lambsfoot always is such a rich black, Dan!:cool::cool: Is that still from the "buffing" you did when you first got the knife, or do you "refinish" it periodically?

Good morning and nice week Guardians.;)

Splendid photo of your stag HHB, José!:thumbsup::cool:

For today's # 50 I wanted to celebrate by sharing this photo. This bird was quite shy and it took a while to get this shot. No hand feeding this one :).
Anyone knows the name of this bird ?
One of my favorite jokes is a "grasshopper walks into a bar" joke with essentially your punchline, John! :D:D

Good morning Guardians! :) I’m totin a new classic this morning!

Congrats, Dan; you are well-equipped now!;);)
Kudos to Mike for his generosity!:cool::)

GT the yellow leaves are from a Swedish Aspen

haha he did at that :p

Thank you, my friend, we just received a framed certificate from the Governor-General congratulating us on our fiftieth youd think we flew to the moon and.:D back.

You HHB is destined to do great things :cool:
Thanks for the replies, Dave.:cool::thumbsup: I had to look up Swedish Aspen; the shape of the tree seems very similar to a species we have around here called Lombardi poplar.

Good Morning Guardians
Old Faithful!! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Good morning Guardians. This Standard Lambfoot with Rosewood Covers arrived in yesterday's afternoon mail. It has nice dark Rosewood covers and will make a nice addition to my flock. It is marketed by J. Adams of Sheffield but actually made by A. Wright. Notice the oval tang stamp that reads Made in Sheffield.
...
The dealer included a nice leather sheath as a bonus.

Thanks for the kind words Gary! It’s always a treat to see your Sambar Senator!:D

Thanks, Gary. Man Jack's a looker, too!
Herriot practised in Yorkshire, as you know. Enjoying the book so far.
There is a great tv show on over here at the moment called The Yorkshire Vet, it is about a veterinary practice that is run out of James Herriot's old surgery, i really enjoy it. Have you had a chance to see it.?

Hadn't heard of it. I don't have cable or satellite TV, so I only get a handful of channels--whatever I can pick up with the antenna. But it sounds interesting.

Your ebony lambsfoot always is such a rich black, Dan!:cool::cool: Is that still from the "buffing" you did when you first got the knife, or do you "refinish" it periodically?

TY GT :)

I don't think it's necessarily from the buffing although it may have improved the look and feel when I did it the first time.

I think black knives are in general very "photogenic" and go with everything.

The ebony on the pile side of my lamb is pretty good ... the mark side has a couple of very light streaks of brown ( but so does my cello fingerboard and my daughters violin).

I do once in while grab a microfiber cloth and use just a tiny drop of mineral oil to hand buff it ... and the ebony really pops and shows nice if I take pictures afterwards .

Interestingly, just last week I power buffed it for the second time. The first time I had only used the coarser wheel and stopped. This time I used the 3 wood buffing wheels in my system. The knife came out looking like black glass, super glossy and shiny BUT I hated how it looked. It made it look like plastic.

I like it when the ebony looks more like charcoal, it's a working knife after all :)
So I rubbed it with 0000 steel wool and buffed it again lightly with the coarse wheel only ( with almost no compound on it).

Now I am happy again :)
