Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Blimey, found the thread on page 2!!

Booze I could do easily, I don't really drink much... But SUGAR??? No way!!!
Good luck on your efforts. Working the stall without cake just sounds wrong though. ;)

Thank John, sugar is the bigger struggle for sure :( As my mate on the tool-stall has just been diagnosed with diabetes, the cake was going to have to go in any case :(

Good luck Jack, you're a bigger man than I am.

I'm just the opposite, I could easily go without sugar, but if I can't have a beer at the end of the day then I start to lose my mind.

We drink lots of Canadian beer here in Western New York.

Thanks Willie, I'm bigger than a lot of folks, which is one of my reasons for having a month off! :D I quit drinking for a couple of months at the beginning of last year, also cut out the sugar. I lost 30 pounds, but I've been eating too much cake recently, and I noticed I've put on 7 pounds since before Xmas. So the booze and sugar is going for a month, but I don't anticipate it being fun  Nice shot of your Lambsfoot my friend

Morning Guardians, I'm sure that in New Orleans folks will be looking forward to some hard Mardi Gras partying later today. Here in Yorkshire, it's still raining, and most folks will have forgotten its Pancake Day  I'll be heading out for some later though, and will try to remember to take a pic or two before they disappear down the Jack Black cakehole! :D Have a good day Guardians

Maybe I'll see the Zulu King! :D ;)

Unlikely

More old posts, as I try to catch up. But the next two weeks promise to be quite busy for me, so as the old song says, "They say that catching up is hard to do!"
That is interesting! It probably proves that my interaction at BF has slowed considerably.
You did take a substantial sabbatical, Joshua, but I'm glad you're back!:)

...
That's been my perception too GT, good to have the data ;)
...
Glad to be of service, using my "numerical superpower"!:D

It seems to be a Hartshead kind of day, so I put mine in pocket.

Those rosewood Hartshead Barlows are handsome knives!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

That's why we're baseball fans!
:thumbsup::thumbsup::D

5K Qs 5K Qs - I agree with yours and Jack’s conclusion that the pace has eased. The good news is that it’s easier to catch up when days or hours:)eek:) have been missed. Especially for you, one of the Maestros of epic post, GT.:)

Good Afternoon Guardians.

Harvey, I'll confess that I feel less stress in my life with the Guardians thread moving at a slower pace! ;):thumbsup:
And speaking of catching up, replying to your Cake Post on Fat Tuesday seems to be a happy coincidence!:)

Oh... Would you look what arrived in time for Wooden Wednesday? My first Big 'Un, and in ebony too! :D

Surprise package arrival from my friend and yours, Mr. Jack Black Jack Black

Thank you, Sir!
Congrats on the Big Ebony, Mike!!:cool::thumbsup:
3 cheers to Jack for his legendary generosity!:cool::thumbsup:

I decided to take a page out of Jack's book and go for a hike.
My little town of Loomis is known for a few things. It's the gateway to the Sierra's railroad line. It has many citrus orchards and fruit sheds. The trains would load up fruit here in town and transport it south to San Francisco and north to Nevada. We were also the state capital for a short time. But mostly we are known for our granite quarries. This was a major granite producing area at one time. I decided to take a hike around one of our local quarries, it was quiet and peaceful, and the weather was amazing. Of course I had my Lambsfoot with me. ;)
...
Thanks for the informative quarry tour, John!:thumbsup::cool: Are none of the quarries still operating? Do they just sit empty? Some of the defunct quarries (actually "gravel pits") around my area have turned into "swimming holes", but that use may actually be illegal in many cases.

Since moving to Minnesota two years ago, I’ve been preaching the “embrace winter” philosophy, but I’m not sure my wife’s fully on board. :D I’d really like to take up ice fishing, but I‘m not sure I’d know where to start!
...
...
That’ll work, although you might get a better yield with this method:

I can just imagine what your first ice fishing experiences will look like, Barrett! :D:D:thumbsup:

Had to shed a tear when I sent the "Extraordinary Linus" off to his next host in Nebraska! Here he is posing with his new friends for one last photo. We'll miss you Linus!View attachment 1286996
Fine flock of lambs you have, Ben!:thumbsup::cool: Thanks for your hospitality to Linus (and vicariously to us Guardians)!:)

My region can grow some great crops in the summer and great icicles in the winter. :)

Cool photo :thumbsup::thumbsup:, but please be careful! Icicles like that can put your eye out!

Dylan & Barrett, thanks for sharing photos of your striking Ironwood lambsfoots!:thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

The saga of my lambfoot knife from Sheffield continues. I won't bore you all with a re-cap but this knife is going in for some surgery. ...
I hope you can get it fixed up the way you want it, Bill!:cool::thumbsup:

Good Morning Guardians
I'm looking forward to the weekend. Both of my boys will be home for a visit.:thumbsup:
...
I hope you guys had a great time together, John!:cool::cool:

Good Ol' Jake
Bakes a chemical cake! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

I was thinking of offering to take my mate's lad, but I'm going to check whether or not he's read Call of the Wild first  Much as I like film, the movie industry have ruined plenty of good books over the years, and are certainly not averse to changing historical fact, let alone a classic novel o_O Please let me know how you find it John
I don't ever think I've preferred a film over the book on which it was based, for those cases in which I experienced both formats. :(

Pork fried rice and a vintage lambsfoot! You're living the high life, Harvey!!:thumbsup::cool:

Had a good lunch and chat with btb01 on a sunny winter day. Great picture of the ice houses by the way. :)

Two blade Lambfoot models are not very common. While I have shown this model in the past, I hadn't with both blades open.
This is a mid 20th century stag handled model from Joseph Elliot of Sheffield.

Thanks a lot guys, setting off for York early worked out pretty well. It's always one of the first places to flood here, but they are very well prepared for it, and really take high river levels in their stride. The river had been dropping for the past 24 hours, and the rain and wind held off until later in the morning. In fact the low sun was so bright over the river, that I had a job looking at it, let alone getting a decent photo, some of my pics look like they are taken at night!
...
The Viking Festival seemed a bit low-key this year, compared to in the past, but the traders were located in one of York's many impressive buildings, the medieval Merchant Adventurers' Hall. Check out the pics on the website because mine turned out rubbish! :( Plenty of knives on sale, and some even looked to be of a higher standard than the ones usually sold at the event
...
Hope everyone else is having a nice Saturday
Thanks for sharing the pics of your York trip, Jack!:cool::thumbsup:
The high water level of the river is sobering. :(
The Viking Festival looks like it would be an entertaining experience! ;)
The college at which I worked sends a group of students to a "Semester in Britain" each spring semester; I think they take classes at York/St. John University. I wonder if all the rain is causing them any disruptions.

Try reading The Godfather, and then watch the film. Also, Lilies of the Field. I bet The Maltese Falcon was better than the book (assuming there was a book--never read it!). But most of the time, the book IS better.

And I think I've mentioned Shane, and Don't Look Now, and Burnt Offerings, in this context. The very end of Burnt Offerings is a bit lame. There was no need for Karen Black to throw Oliver Reed out of the attic window; he might better have just crumpled dead at her feet. I didn't like the ending in the book, either, though.

Lots of old ones still around that people can visit. There are plenty of new ones too, but they are gated off.

So nice to see Man Jack again.
I wonder why we don't see more of them being carried here?

Congrats on your newest Venture, Harvey!:cool::thumbsup:

The phrase 'Walk don't run!' always takes me back to my schooldays, and the bellowing of the headmaster down the school corridors! A few years ago, there was a protest march by striking school teachers in Leeds. For some reason, a large gap developed in the middle of the march, and those in the rear were walking rapidly, and even running, to catch up with it. Standing on the pavement, I couldn't help shouting, "Walk! Don't RUN!" None of them seemed to find it amusing though  :D Great tunes GT :)

It's still raining today, and I wonder if it's ever going to stop  I was thinking of heading out to the local market town of Otley this weekend, where I took this photo a few weeks back, but the whole area where I wanted to walk is actually underwater. It's the worst flooding they've ever had there :(

I think you would enjoy the festival Gary, hopefully some of the students from your college were able to see some of it. I hope they enjoy their visit, York University has a nice campus :) Nice to see Man Jack again, he was a generous giveaway prize :)

Try reading The Godfather, and then watch the film.

Good example Vince, and there are certainly other exceptions to the rule :) Of course we'll not talk about the third film! :D

I can only remember the film Jer, but throwing Oliver Reed out of a window does sound like an excellent idea, and I suspect it'd probably happened to him before! :D

Have a great time, Jack.:cool::thumbsup:
Enjoy the pancakes and we look forward to some delicious pictures.

Thanks John, but I'm afraid to say that I have let you down, thanks to a combination of pancake greed and a terrible memory  Sadly, not many places seemed to be doing pancakes, but I had a tasty (but very overpriced) savoury crepe (a sort of spicy chicken affair). However, I only remembered about taking a photograph when I had almost entirely consumed it  Very sorry folks, maybe I'll make some later :(

Good Morning Guardians

Nice pic of your bread & butter African Rosewood my friend :)

I can't imagine it being much fun either. Thanks for the kind words Jack. Have a great one

No, I did a Dry January one year, and it was possibly the most boring month of my life! Thanks buddy :)

I only make pancakes at home every couple of years, so I sometimes cock-up the first pancake o_O Today, the second was none too pretty either  It tasted good though, had it with some chocolate ice cream and my Drambuie sauce (maple syrup & Drambuie ;) ). Reckon I should be able to manage another shortly ;)

Look at that! 1800 pages!

Very nice, great view all the way around!

Those two look amazing together.

Fantastic red and black combo Dylan :) Go Thorns! ;)

Nice, Dylan! Great contrast going on there!

Dylan & Barrett, thanks for sharing photos of your striking Ironwood lambsfoots!:thumbsup:

Thank you, all, for the very kind compliments. Things continue to be as busy as ever... Soccer season is starting again, yard work never ceases, and I've taken in my youngest sister (who's not much older than my own kids).

I hope everyone is well.
