Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good to have you both back Willie :D ;)

I love that pic John! :D

Here's another look at my calendar for you ;) :D

Man with five lives?

I've got my ebony Big'un back in my pocket.

I mentioned a while back that when the Agave, or Century plant is at the end of its life cycle, it sends up a 25 to 30 foot tall stalk. I've been keeping an eye out for one to photograph when I'm driving around town, and saw a pair of them this morning. They've already branched out; when they first shoot up they look exactly like giant asparagus.:D

Yay! :) Wow, thanks for taking those pics Rachel, that's fascinating. Is there a purpose to the shoots in terms of the plant? Also, are they edible (they do look like asparagus)?

Sitting on the chipper chute waiting for my brother to get back from dumping a load of chips... Playing with my lambsfoot

Looks like you've been hard at it Willie

You got that right Jack! ;) When I carry these two I could almost swear my head swells just a little! :D

Looking good Jack! Now I’m hungry!

LOL! :D Thanks buddy :) :D

Hope everyone is having a good day :) My 5-year old cough seems to have got worse, I'm frightened to leave the house in case I get bagged up and carried off! ;) Actually, something like that happened to someone I used to know, he's a real pasty-faced guy, and scruffy too, in fact he stinks o_O He was travelling across China on a train, during the middle of the SARS epidemic. The train stopped at a small station, and looking out of the window, he saw a load of people wearing bio-hazard suits. He's wondering what the heck is going on, and they come into the carriage he's in carrying a stretcher. He still doesn't know what's going on, but suddenly loads of the passengers are pointing at him. He can't speak any Chinese, but he's grabbed by the people in suits, strapped to the stretcher, and dragged, protesting, off the train! Turns out some of the other passengers, seeing his unhealthy appearance, had reported him as a SARS case! They took his passport off him, and kept him for about a month. He had to bribe his way out in the end, which must have been hard, because he's incredibly tight-fisted! o_O When he got back and told the story, he had to suffer further, because while people felt sorry for him, they couldn't stop bursting into laughter!

I believe the plant is putting all its energy into dispersing seeds before it dies, although they mostly reproduce by spreading "pups" from their root system.
Unfortunately, the "asparagus" isn't edible. I can just imagine a vegetarian Texas barbecue with one giant asparagus stalk turning on a spit over a fire. :D

I wondered if that was the case :) A shame they're not edible! :D Thanks for the info Rachel, very interesting stuff

Wow, that is a crazy story! :D

Take care of yourself, Jack!

Back from our afternoon walk. My kids called back at me from up ahead in the trail to hurry up.
I caught up to them to see a couple of swans on the river. Very cool. We had never seen swans in our area.
After reading up on swans in Ontario on the interweb we think they are mute swans, an invasive species from Europe that was brought in in the late 1800's by rich folks to keep in their gardens.
The trumpeter swan, native to north america and once considered extinct is slowly making a comeback in Ontario.
The main difference is in their beaks, the mute swan is orange, the trumpeter is black. My kids with their great eyesight assure me their beaks were orange :( ( zooming in on my iphone pics does not really help either)

It was a weird Saturday without my usual HHB in my pocket, because of Mike’s challenge, and no Premier League matches on TV. I probably watch way too much televised sports, so I’m determined to use this time to get outside in the daytime, and in the darkroom at night. Here’s a file photo.

Great pics, Dan!

@mitch4ging - Thank you kindly, Dennis. Great image of your Horn LF. Your image background game is strong.

Jack Black Jack Black - Much thanks, Jack. Great story. Looks like you and your Hartshead had a very nice hike. What an inviting looking pasty. I quickly scan 360 when coughing and clearing my throat in public. Take care, my friend. Oh wait...Don’t remember if I ever answered your previous question. The fruit was store bought, and as good as if it was fresh picked.

Good Evening Guardians.

Great pics Dan, I hope the Trumpeter swan makes a comeback  Mute swans are common here, they can be very aggressive  :D Here's a pic from my walk last weekend, they're usually only seen in small groups though (in this case they are being fed)

Looks like there might not be any Premier League for a while Dave :( Nice pic of your Hartshead Barlow, looking forward to seeing the photos you take in your time away from the TV :D :)

That's hilarious, Jack! :D:D:D

Even funnier if you knew the guy, he went out to the Philippines with 3 other 'hippies'. They flew back, he thought he could get back cheaper overland

*Fantastic* story, Jack.

Thanks Harvey, the pic was from last weekend, my hike yesterday was cancelled unfortunately, so I couldn't get any new pics :( The pasty was good though! :D ;) Yeah, I try my best, but the main problem is with public transport, it's kind of restrictive :( I need a sign and a bell! :D The fruit certainly looked tasty, I thought it was a little early for blackberries! :D Another nice pic of your I-XL my friend

Morning Guardians, I hope everyone is having a good weekend :) I don't have anything planned for today, so I'm just going to find some jobs to do in the house, and no doubt do some slingshot plinking and eat some sausages! :D Have a great Sunday folks :)

(I buy my soap from the Yorkshire Soap Company ;) )

As Mike's giveaway is now over, I thought I'd treat myself, and have a Double Lambsfoot Day! :D ;)

Good Morning Guardians
I switched back to my Rosewood Lamb late yesterday afternoon. I was so excited to get it back in my pocket again and start using it. Mike's Challenge really taught me that my favorite Carry Knives are my favorites for a reason, they make me smile and the blade shapes have proven themselves to be effective in most every situation. I especially like my Rosewood Lamb because it's slightly thinner and shorter than my other regular sized Lambs. It ends up being the perfect size and shape for pocket carry and in-hand comfort... and of course the blade shape. ;)

Rainy weekend here in Nor Cal.
