Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

donn donn - Brilliant tour. Thank you David.

@Modoc ED - Hello Ed. Hope your Sunday is also a good one.

Jack Black Jack Black - Given that your mental state is sound, I’d say like others, to do whatever your heart tells you to do. If it would eat at your soul to break your commitment, then don’t. If I felt like the walls were closing in on me, I might have nip or two. As for me, social distancing is the norm. Not stressed by that. My discomfort comes from my concern for everyone. I pray that John’s JohnDF JohnDF prediction is correct, though I fear it isn’t.

Good Afternoon Guardians.

Another eight days, but an awful lot has changed in the last eight days, and I suspect even more will change in the week to come o_O

Jack you could look at this two ways.
First, "oh I've made it this far I may as well do the last week".
Or...
"I've made it this far, lost 10lbs but what difference will 8 more days make when the world is going to poop. Lets celebrate what I achieved and enjoy myself while I still can".

I think my wording betrays my opinion on this :D

Just keep keep a positive attitude... this will blow over soon enough. :)

Well said John. Well said.:thumbsup:
Chaps I'm a nurse, I used to do Infection Control nursing for a time including during the H1N1 outbreak were I was one of the few nurses running the isolation ward set up in the hospital I worked in. I've spent the last 48 hours crunching numbers (which are freely and openly available to all on the internet including our hysterical media) with friends who are also in the job and I'm going to say this which is going to sound very bizarre if all you've been doing is soaking up endless news....

If you are fit and healthy with no underlying health complaints Covid-19 is just not that deadly. ESPECIALLY in comparison to other diseases which the media seems to completely ignore.

I'm aware there are people on here who do have health complaints. I myself am a live-in carer for my 81 year old mother who has a serious cardiac condition, and have had to withdraw from work because of that.
So to you I say follow the advice and take all precautions, including what were calling here 'social distancing'. Personal hygiene is paramount (as it always has been!!). Monitor your health, strictly follow any treatment regime your on and do not hesitate to seek medical advice if you or your family notice a change.
There is much more to be optimistic about than be pessimistic about.
And I think everyone, the next healthiest thing we could all do is, now and again, turn off the blasted news!!

Many thanks for that scholarly post David, superb :) It makes me want to visit - when that's possible  Thanks for taking us all along with you

donn donn David, thanks for the visual holiday good sir! It’s a great break from the gloom and doom on the morning news! I didn’t quote all the great photos to help save on space. Great shots of your 2019 Guardians Ironwood also! :D

I enjoyed it very much David. Thank you for sharing your interest in these remarkable cathedrals with us!

Great history lesson and wonderful photos. Thanks for sharing.

Great pics. Thanks for the tour, David.

Your welcome chaps! Thank you for your kind words. I did it partly 'cos I said to Jack I would but also cos I thought it would be nice to read about something else other than the present poop.
I may do a mini sequel tomorrow.

Fascinating David !, I loved it! TY
Your posts usually prompt me into searching and learning more about the topics presented , and these day I have plenty of time at home for this.
I worked for a few years in the ICU at the hospital in the small town of Winchester, about 45 min from where I live ... and never though to learn about where the original name had come from.
Cheers

I hope so cheers Dan! One reason I'm on this forum is learning about the world; not just knives. There's loads of interesting folk on here, doing interesting things and whenever I read a post about something be it a museum or even a public holiday, I'm off reading about it.

That's interesting about your Winchester. I guess there must be quite a few about. I even wonder if that's the origin of Oliver Winchester of rifle fame.

What a feast! Thanks for sharing this! As an Floridian the best we can come by is Spanish forts from the age of exploration. A far cry from the glory of the Medieval renaissance.

The best? Joshua don't do your country a disservice! Firstly, if your of European descent 'my' history is as much your history. Secondly, having visited the U.S I can say with certainty the history of the U.S may not have the age of the history of the Old World, but it is no less fascinating for it. I would fly thousands of miles to see those Spanish Forts of yours and be as amazed by them as you have by that huge pile of stones in Winchester. :) And I probably know more about the U.S Civil War than I do about the English Civil War.

not least having been an International Red Cross worker for 2 years during the Lebanese Civil War,

Crikey Jack! That sounds like a story in of itself.

donn donn
Oh David, one more thing !
A selfie , holding a lambsfoot in front of the cathedral would have been the " cherry on top" your fantastic post :D

Errr...yeah....
But as a lot of folk are relying on the internet at the moment to stay sane I didn't want to break it... :D

Oh picture of the month there Dan! Fantastic! The contrast between the covers and the patterns in the ice...

I suspect that isn't really David's style Dan :D Not like this pair, both spent nearly an hour at an English beauty spot 'trout-puting' at their phones, don't think they even looked at each other, never mind the view o_O

qVCUlel.jpg

LOL Jack. The problem is last year I went round everyone I know including my ex, and can categorically confirm that a picture of me without a beer in my hand does not exist...
And that couple on the bridge. I'm sorry Jack.
I'd have to shoot them... :D

For example, I discovered that the large 'Pen' blade, which Wright's marry to the medium Lambsfoot, and which I don't really care for, is taken from knives which were produced for the British NAAFI after WW2 (the actual blade stamp may even pre-date that). They use what they have, as otherwise they'd have to spend money on a new stamp  Their double-bolstered pattern uses a small-size Lambsfoot blade, even though it's a tad short for the frame.

Seriously Jack? So the blade on this would fall into that category?

I'm grateful for your thoughts my friend, I'm just having a sugar and alcohol-free hot chocolate before I hit the hay. It's been a while since I had hot chocolate, but I need a break from tea, and it's too late for coffee! :D

Beautiful photo Harvey, that's some nice file-work isn't it? :)

Yep, it's the only Pen blade stamp that firm currently possess. Maybe it wasn't originally a Pen blade, could have been a small Spear I guess. They don't even know where all the stuff comes from because the firm has had so many different owners

Best advice yet, David. :cool::thumbsup:
I never watch the news on the telly, but I get some on the radio when I'm driving. Otherwise, I might check out some news sites on the computer/smartphone. I resolve not to look at any news tonight. Going to read some Don Quixote in a little while with some black coffee. Scotch on the rocks (it's okay--it's a blend, not Laphroaig or Lagavulin or Glenmorangie in which I would NEVER put ice! :)) later. Back to work tomorrow.

Chaps I'm a nurse
Me too ( but you already knew that :) )
I remember when they trained us on how to put on those Stryker suits when SARS happened. Never had to wear one in a real situation but I think they found out they were not that effective for preventing SARS afterwards.

Oh picture of the month there Dan! Fantastic! The contrast between the covers and the patterns in the ice...
Thank you my friend !

I am slowly filling in Jack's SFO's that I missed by being a Johnny-come-lately to the Guardians. My lates acquisition thanks to @JustinR is a Damascus Senator Lambsfoot.

Morning Guardians, I don't know how many of you are going into work today, but if you are, I guess you're needed, so stay safe out there  Everyone else too

I'm out of bread today, but I do have pikelets! ;)

Campbellclanman Campbellclanman Good to see you posting Duncan. I hope you’re doing well! :)

Jack Black Jack Black I’ve been eating quite a few “English Muffins” Jack! We’ve found that they keep very well in the freezer until time to use them. The ones I’ve been eating are also an excellent source of fiber. Something I had never heard of when I was younger. Now the doc says he wants me to have a minimum of 25 grams each day. That is not really all that easy to do!

I’m carrying this Standard size Pere David Stag example today! Be vigilant out there my friends! :D
