Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Sorry if I've missed some posts or my replies are somewhat anorexic, haven't been feeling myself lately.
I hope you feel better soon, Dennis.
Thank you Joshua, that sounds like a rewarding way to spend an afternoon :) Nice to see your son helping out, I used to really enjoy that kind of physical labour as a boy, made me feel a bit grown-up I guess. I used to help out a couple of old ladies, but their lawns were small, and they didn't have lawnmowers, so I used to cut the grass with a sickle. Funny, now, to think of a time when the sight of a boy walking down the street with a sickle would not raise an eyebrow :rolleyes: Enjoy the rest of the weekend my friend
I have a pretty small yard and I've been tempted to get a full sized scythe to mow my lawn. The neighbor kids already think I'm a witch, so maybe I should just lean into that. ;)

Have a Happy and safe Easter, Guardians.

I love it when I come across unusual works of art in the woods Dan, as happens sometimes :) I've never seen one of those before, very interesting :cool: Great pics :thumbsup:

What a bargain Ron, makes it all the sweeter :D I'm very familiar with the Hi-Power Ron, had one for over a year when I lived in the Middle East :) There wasn't anywhere near as much debate over here Ron, most shooters were more concerned about having to repair their back-stops than knock-down! :D Thanks pal :thumbsup:

Hope you're feeling OK David, nice pic my friend :) :thumbsup:

Your baguettes always look delicious Dave :) I bet they are too ;) :thumbsup:

Possibly! :D Tasty-looking snack Greg, how did you find the Piri-Piri, I've only had it as a sauce? Two great pics :thumbsup:

Thanks John, some really nice people on my street, I think I am lucky in that respect :) Thank you, and the same to you my friend :) :thumbsup:

It was a bit out of the blue on my normally very peaceful street Harvey :eek: Yes, I'll be keeping my slingshot handy! :rolleyes: Thanks a lot buddy :thumbsup:

Wow, nice find! :cool: :) :thumbsup:

The first one looks great Ed! :eek: Hope you enjoy it pal, and continue to get better my friend :) :thumbsup:

The Aardvark is always a treat Barrett :) I had some on the sausages and lightly-fried tomatoes, with a little ketchup on the sausages too :) Thanks for introducing me to it pal :thumbsup:

Great pic of your impressive flock Gary :cool: :thumbsup:

What an incredibly talented family you are Dan, beautiful recital :) You and your wife must be very proud :) Nice pic too :thumbsup:

It is certainly always a real treat to see Ron's Radiant Harry :) Likewise, your beautiful TEW Lambsfoot, it'd be a waste not to have that in your pocket :) :thumbsup:

Sorry to hear that Dennis, hope you're going to be bouncing around and full of beans soon my friend :) Very interesting information on the Dulcimers, they must have one of the sparsest Wiki pages in existence :rolleyes: Thanks Dennis :) :thumbsup:

Thanks a lot pal :D You too :) :thumbsup:

Splendid photo Dennis, you take care my friend :) :thumbsup:

Morning Guardians, it's 10.45am here already, and I am thirsting for my morning coffee. Hope everyone is doing OK, keeping well, and that you have a great day, even if the Easter bunny is social distancing this year ;) Happy Easter Guardians :thumbsup:

Jack, have a blessed Easter.

Sorry if I've missed some posts or my replies are somewhat anorexic, haven't been feeling myself lately.
You never have to apologize, My friend.
We will take your highs and lows, and pray for more highs to come. ;)

It was the tube in the middle of a roll of weed barrier we were laying down
That's far less exciting than a giant knife. :(

Looking good, John!
How do you like the ceramic blade?
I love the ceramic blade, I never even touch my metal ones any more. :cool::thumbsup:

Awsome, John! I can smell the horses now!!
Nothing more relaxing than a fire and friends!
It was really nice to get out and talk to people I wasn't related to... Lol :D

A small but MIGHTY herd, Dennis. :cool::thumbsup:

I figured you’d had some experience with the High Power Jack. :thumbsup: You’ve got a great black pair there this morning! The Ebony Big’un is such a terrific knife! ;) Have a blessed and safe Easter Jack! :)

Yeah, when I lived in Beirut, it was known as the Arabatarsh - Arabic for 14 - because I guess everyone kept 'one up the spout' ;) Thanks a lot pal, you too :) :thumbsup:

Happy Easter Guardians! :thumbsup: Wherever you may be I pray you have a safe and blessed day! :) I’m carrying my Humphreys Radiant again today. It just felt so good yesterday, I couldn’t put it away just yet! :) :thumbsup:

Great to have a double-helping of Radiant Lambsfoot Ron :D :thumbsup:

I have a pretty small yard and I've been tempted to get a full sized scythe to mow my lawn. The neighbor kids already think I'm a witch, so maybe I should just lean into that. ;)

Have a Happy and safe Easter, Guardians.

LOL! :D I saw a beautiful old scythe at a car-boot sale some years ago, but having travelled there on the bus, I thought I might freak a few people out if I stood by the side of the road with it waiting for the return bus! :eek: :D Lovely pic Rachel :) :thumbsup:

Jack, have a blessed Easter.

35285270820_84a8bd9072_m.jpg

Thanks Bill, you too :thumbsup:

I don't know how you are all finding this strange time, but for me, the days are flying by, and I'm struggling to keep up with everything :rolleyes: First order of business, after breakfast, today, was a shave and a haircut - I was starting to look like Robinson Carusoe, the shipwrecked opera singer :eek: ;)

This is, more or less, my usual shaving set-up. I favour Taylor's shaving cream (almond today), though I do like a few other brands, and Feather blades. I've been impressed with the shave I get from an open-comb razor, but I usually do my sideburns with my Merkur. I don't regularly use after-shave (maybe once every other wedding), but I do like Trumper's skin food, with a fresh lime smell. I use my shaving mug, filled with hot water, to keep my shaving bowl warm. The bowl itself is new. I was in the gift shop of the Royal Armouries museum recently, and they had a range of ceramic crockery designed to emulate the old enamelled 'tinware' seen here during WW2. There was a mug and plate, which were a bit pricey, but probably due to its small size, the matching bowl had been reduced in price. It's just right for a shaving bowl :)

No bread today for a sausage sandwich unfortunately, so I put some pasties in the oven, and had one of them out in the garden :) Hope everyone is having a good day, just catching up, and then I'm hoping to go and get some slingshot practice in ;) :thumbsup:

Stupendous stag selection, Jack! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

Well, I guess we're doing multiple Lambs now. Here's some of my herd.

Quite a quintessential quintet of lambs, Taylor! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Delightful duo, Randy!! :thumbsup::cool::cool:

Are we showing off our flocks today?

Super-select sextet, Rachel! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

I hope y’all know I’m awfully busy sheltering in place! ;) But I’m proud to share my flock with my fellow Guardians this evening! :D Please be safe out there Guardians! :thumbsup:

Praiseworthy passel of lambs in your pasture, Ron! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

A pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty lambsfoots,
A pleasure to our eye!

Four of Sheffield's finest, David; how I admire that horny eye! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

A good Easter for all Guardians.
May everyone be protecting themselves from this pandemic.
This is my flock to date.:):thumbsup:

Thanks for the wishes for Easter and health, and same to you, José. :)
A dramatic near-dozen distinguished lambsfoots! :thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

...
I gathered the current flock for a group pic (absent Linus, of course).

JMXOpOr.jpg
Dylan, your flock photo is a fine metaphor for the perfect balance between form and function inherent in the lambsfoot! :cool::cool::thumbsup: You could carry a different lambsfoot each day for two weeks!! :eek:;)

What are we doing now? Group photos and musical instruments?

Ok, here’s an up-to-date family photo. ...
WcEsxr3.jpg

And here’s a Lambsfoot with a musical instrument. (Next Guardians thread trend: camouflaged/“Where’s Waldo” Lambsfoot photos!) ;) :D
...
Lambsfoots by the dozen, Barrett; very impressive!! :thumbsup::cool::cool:
Who decides what should be the Guardians' "theme of the moment"?? By the time I notice a theme, it's often too late! :eek::rolleyes: Musical instruments, eh? I'll have to work on that one.
Your Where's Waldo proposal sounds interesting, but I'm committed to working on putting together my "Lambsfoots on Little Free Libraries" exhibit!

The boots look good to me and the HHB is great.

Good-looking boots for the cool and trendy hep-cat around town Gary ;) Unfortunately, I've always been pretty heavy on boots, and they wear quickly for me. Here's an old (and rather clumsily edited) intro to one of my boot appraisals you might find of interest :thumbsup:
...
Thanks for the kind words, Harvey & Bill & Jack. :)
Jack, I enjoyed the article about waterproofing/caring for fabric boots. :thumbsup::cool: I've had several pairs of leather boots over the decades that I used only in winter, and I never settled on a waterproofing method that I thought was superior. Of late, I seem to have gone back to my youth and protect my boots with rubber overshoes (but they tend to develop annoying "pinholes" after about 4 months).

...
My keeping up strategy is to jump to the latest page and start there.
I may have to adopt that strategy soon. :(

Thanks! My wife makes all the homemade jelly, muscadine, scuppernong, blackberry, peach, plum, loquat that I grew when I lived in Texas. We just need to gets some mayhaws now. Mayhaw jelly is hard to beat! Great song in the video. :thumbsup:
This Michigan boy had to google most of your fruits! :rolleyes::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thank you, Gary. It is a sad sort of picture, but the video seder was a lot of fun. :D We kind of sped through the ceremony and then sat and talked for a few hours.
I know I drank more than the ceremonial four glasses of wine, but in my defense the silver kiddush cup I was using is very small. ;) (it's actually my cup from a set my family had when I was a child, and would use every Friday night)
Sounds like a good time was had by all! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

Fantastic picture, GT. :cool::thumbsup:
Thanks, John. :)

I Carry It. I Wear It.
...
Both knife and mask are admirable, Harvey! :cool::cool::thumbsup:

...
That's a mighty fine face mask, Harvey! I love the nod to the bandana. :thumbsup:

We have a few masks that my mother-in-law very kindly sewed and mailed to us, but none so stylish as that. :)
...
Greg, my wife has been sewing masks for the past week. I took a dozen to the post office to ship to our daughter (and friends), she brought 8 to her veterinarian's practice yesterday, she and I each have at least one of her masks, she has 4 ready for nephew/niece/2kids to get this afternoon, and she has 5 to ship off to family in Indianapolis sometime soon. I don't know how many she currently has in progress or what their destination(s) are.

Stole the idea from @WhittlinAway bacon flat bread!

Thanks GT :D Nice photo of your Hartshead Barlow, and a video straight out of the Pigeon-Toed Orange Peel ;) I'm off to eat some toast and jam for breakfast :thumbsup:

I've heard of Coogan's Bluff, but have never watched it; anyone recommend it?
Thanks for the follow-up on the use of "our kid", and for the HHB advice and compliment. :)

Great looking HHB there. :thumbsup:

Thanks Dennis me to. :D
A nice herd you have there.:thumbsup:

Haha Jack. Did you ever hear of Thomas Burke-the "Lancashire Caruso"? From the town of Leigh in Lancashire.

Well Happy Easter to you all. I've so far had two sausage butties, two hot cross buns and most of a chocolate Easter egg.:cool:

This Michigan boy had to google most of your fruits! :rolleyes::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Mostly southern treats for sure. Here is a small jar that she usually gives out as gifts. This one is scuppernong. All scuppernongs are muscadines but not all muscadines are scuppernongs. My wife is getting ready to get some blackberries out of the freezer to make another batch of jelly since we are getting low.

LOL! :D I saw a beautiful old scythe at a car-boot sale some years ago, but having travelled there on the bus, I thought I might freak a few people out if I stood by the side of the road with it waiting for the return bus! :eek: :D Lovely pic Rachel :) :thumbsup:

I have one of those that's just an "L" shape. I just got a little morning exercise with it. I always laughed at my neighbors who pay someone to mow their lawns and then drive to the gym to exercise. With the gyms closed, and money tight, I might see more folks trying out these old school tools.
Super-select sextet, Rachel! :cool::thumbsup::cool:
Thanks!

Great to see Humphrey again Ron !!!!!:):):):thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: It is hard to believe what little you paid for Humphrey . And you called me cheap for getting that old Easy Open from that Old Lady for 20 % off for having a Chip ( the EO Notch ) out of the handle . Carry it often and in good health , especially on this wonderful day and occasion my friend .

Harry

We had our Easter dinner yesterday evening so that the wife could just rest today and enjoy Easter Sunday. This was my dinner plate. I could only manage to eat a couple of small pieces of the pork but did eat the mashed potatoes, green beans, and turnips and even went back for seconds on them.

Looks good, Jack! :thumbsup: I wish pasties and (savory) pies were more common here in the US. When we lived in Arizona, there was a place called the Cornish Pasty Company that was pretty good. In addition to traditional fillings, they had some more unique offerings. I like their bacon cheeseburger pasty, which they called the “Royale with Cheese.” :D
