Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Jack Black Jack Black Prester John Prester John

I saw them live in Chattanooga on 8/17/67. They were at the Jet-FLI Spectacular. A show that was put on several times a year and sponsored by the biggest local Rock Radio Station, Jet-FLI. The performers that particular night were Herman’s Hermits, The Who, Neil Diamond, Blues Magoos, Jon & Robin, The In Crowd. The Who was the last performance that night. I was setting in the lower floor level seats. Let’s just say when Pete Townsend started smashing his guitar it left quite an impression on this almost 13 year old boy. I’ve been a life long fan. :)
Interesting lineup indeed. Now Neil Diamond is someone I would have loved to see live. I have an old live album of his (Hot August Night) that is pretty "rocky n rolly" for a pop singer. I would blow the dust off it to play it but my old Thorens turntable is FUBAR'ed as well as the AKG cartridge has needed a new stylus for the last 30 years.

With page 2000 swiftly approaching, I thought we'd better have a giveaway :) I managed to find one of the 10 knives I had made up with vintage African Rosewood covers...

It's only open to Guardians, but here's the twist, you can nominate someone who doesn't have a Lambsfoot knife to receive this one as a prize. They must have at least 20 posts in the Traditional forum to qualify (please check), agree to give the knife a try, and not sell it (they can put it up for another giveaway or pass it on to another member here). To enter, please say that you're in, name the member you're nominating, and say why you're nominating them to win a Lambsfoot knife
If it's not too late Jack, please put me in for your GAW.

We called those "strainers" and I thought that pattern was just for kosher kitchens. :p

One day, my mother asked me to hand her the colander, and I just looked at her blankly, "The what?" "Quit playing! The colander!" Finally, I saw what she was pointing at, "Oh, the strainer? Okay." I swear, I'd never heard her call it anything else, and here she was annoyed with me for not knowing the proper word.

I've always had one in the kitchen, although I never remember buying one... o_O

LOL! Yeah, same here! :D The first time I heard them called anything else, it was "culinder"! :D

If it's not too late Jack, please put me in for your GAW.

Hello Jack - read your post (thoroughly:)) on your GAW. I'll nominate @Vaporstang. I'm not sure if he owns a lambfoot or not but I won a very nice Indianhead knife on his GAW recently so I would return the favor if I win your GAW and send it on to him. If this does not conform to you rules it's ok. Let me know and I'll try again or withdraw my entry.

Thanks Bill, I don't know if @Vaporstang has one or not, but I don't think it's up to me to check. I also hope you could give a better reason why you're nominating someone for a Lambsfoot knife (eg they have expressed an interest in the pattern)

Good Morning Guardians
I finally got the call I've been waiting for last night...
I've mentioned a few times how I've been extra busy at work, this is because my school is closing for good and they have laid off all 12 teachers (including me). I was part of a committee to "re-imagine" the school with only 3 teachers left on staff. We've put in a lot of hours trying to figure out how to make it work, knowing that not all the teachers on the committee would be re-hired. Last night I got the call from HR that I will be re-hired for our new school... It's time to celebrate!!! Still a ton of extra work ahead of me as we forge the new program, but I'm happy to get to stay at the school I've been at for 15+ years. Sorry for the long and personal post, I'm just very excited. :)

Congratulations John, but it must have been a very stressful time for you, and I'm sure you're still going to have a lot of extra work

Thank you, Jack. :)
Yes, it was very stressful. My wife is a high-up administrator for another district and she told me there will be hiring freezes all across the state due to restricted budgets caused by the work shut-down recently. Not a good time for teachers looking for work.

I imagine so John :( My girlfriend has had to re-apply for her own job at least 3 or 4 times in the past, while each time she's seen a number of colleagues made redundant o_O Well, good luck in your 'new' job my friend :)

Thanks Jack, I can't find a solid reason for the Thompson stamp, possibly a hardware store that had some knives made? May never know but they ordered from the premium line, it's a very well made knife, I can barely see where the bolsters meet the liners, it's visible in one small spot, otherwise seamless union.

Wow, what a fabulous knife Rob, and an interesting one too, with the TEW tang stamp, and Thompson on the blade  I'm guessing Thompson was a factor of some kind? That knife really has it all :)

Thanks Bill:thumbsup: appreciate the compliment !

What a stunning lamb foot!

Congratulations John! I'm glad you are staying employed with your school.

That's what I was thinking Rob, there i a famous old hardware store in London called Thompson's, I think I have put up a link to them before. Thompson is a common name here though. The knife is quite beautiful my friend :)

Knife nomenclature is rarely anything other than confusing Kevin ;) That'[s a nice pic, some great-looking stag, and a very fine pocket slip
When I first started getting into to traditional knives, I was very surprised, and a little overwhelmed, with all the little details that made this this and that that. Learning is part of what makes this hobby fun though.
Also, thanks, I feel very lucky to be able to own that stag HHB.
The slip is one that a good forum buddy made for me.

Great reply to Greg's question, FBC!:thumbsup::cool: Some notable lambsfoot pics, too. What's on your sandwich besides onions in the pic with the horn knife? Good old Jake looks like he can survive a 'quake! ;)
Thanks Gary.
That delicious stuff on that sandwich is Liverwurst. It is one of those odd foods that my grandmother got me to like.
I have always been an adventurous eater. Part of that came from being broke and eating what was around and cheap. :)
