Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks Jack ! They've been around since the 40's so it's a good possibility they are the connection.
I'll try to bank that away in my colander like memory :D

That's what I was thinking Rob, there i a famous old hardware store in London called Thompson's, I think I have put up a link to them before. Thompson is a common name here though. The knife is quite beautiful my friend :)

All 3 of our colanders are from the Mirro Aluminum Co. They started making colanders around 1909 I believe.

Very interesting

Might have to look for some good "biscuits" to go with my afternoon cup of coffee.:thumbsup:

I wouldn't say they're great John, they're like something you might make if you were very poor, and there was nothing in the cupboard! I certainly don't think you could call them 'cookies'! :D

Intriguing question, Greg, and I've enjoyed reading everyone's responses.:cool::thumbsup:
My first lambsfoot (September 2015) was Man Jack, the stag senator pattern I won in a GAW sponsored by @R.c.s, a BF member from Manchester, England; frankly, I was more interested in the stag covers than in the lambsfoot blade. About 6 months later, I also purchased Lamb Shark, a Taylor-Schrade 19OT, which seemed to be an inexpensive non-British lambsfoot. I tried using each of those knives a few times, but I didn't think they cut very well for me. It wasn't until the Guardians thread started in the summer of 2016 that I gave a lambsfoot blade a truly serious and lengthy try, and discovered that I had been trying to use them like the spear and clip blades I was familiar with, but I needed to adapt my techniques to the lambsfoot blade: point-on-the-table pull cuts. In the spring of 2017, my wife and daughter spent some time in UK and bought me Union Jack, my rosewood lambsfoot, in York, and that knife really "sealed the deal" as far as my interest in lambsfoot-bladed knives. I wouldn't say the lambsfoot is my favorite blade shape, but it's certainly in the top 3, and I always proudly carry a lambsfoot in my Guardians sheath.

Thanks for sharing your lamb origin story, GT!

:D:D:thumbsup: Love to see this recurring theme, especially when posted by the theme's creator!!

I'm so glad you've enjoyed them. I've had fun with them and always appreciate seeing other folks' contributions to the theme. @Prester John has been particularly good at noticing when the momentum has fallen off and it needs a nudge. :)

That must be one of those door step sandwiches (or Wigan buttys) I've heard about, Greg! ;):D

I'd never heard either of those terms before, GT!

It's a homemade brioche bun with lettuce, hamburger patty, cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce, topped with a slice of onion that had been battered and fried
along with the onion rings. It was kinda hard to get my mouth around. Does that qualify?

Last night I got the call from HR that I will be re-hired for our new school... It's time to celebrate!!! Still a ton of extra work ahead of me as we forge the new program, but I'm happy to get to stay at the school I've been at for 15+ years.

Congratulations, John! I can only imagine what a relief that must have been. It sounds like you may be even busier now than you were before, but I hope you are able to find a little time to decompress from the most recent stressful run and can still keep up with your leather work as a counterpoint to the work stress as it kicks back in.

Thanks, Greg. :)
It will be a lot of work, but nicer without having the stress of not knowing.

When I first started getting into to traditional knives, I was very surprised, and a little overwhelmed, with all the little details that made this this and that that. Learning is part of what makes this hobby fun though.
Also, thanks, I feel very lucky to be able to own that stag HHB.
The slip is one that a good forum buddy made for me.

I find it fascinating too Kevin :) That looks like an interesting read, and a great background for your Charlie Lamb :)

Too late... I order a package of them from Amazon, along with some more Jammie Dodgers. :D

Oh no! Sorry John  Just imagine that you are sat in a bombed-out house in London's East End during WW2, subject to severe food rationing, and a few Rich Tea biscuits are the height of your week ;) Enjoy your Jammie Dodgers :D

The variety pack I got had Hobnobs, Digestives, and Ginger Nuts, all of which are better :)

I don't know if you'll be able to understand any of this John (lad is from @donn 's side of the Pennines), but don't try dunkin' Rich Tea biscuits, it's something everyone of my generation learned the hard way

I don't usually buy biscuits, but with the current situation, I'm doing my best to keep a smile on my face ;)

Thanks Ron!
I guess you got me pegged pretty good. I’ll take the good ole southern boy tag as a badge of honor! I’m a South Carolina guy through and through. Clemson grad...check. My wife’s people are all from Chattanooga so I’m pretty fond of Tennessee folks like yourself :D

And you are correct, I’ve gotta get onto this Lambsfoot party at some point. Y’all are having too much fun without me.
A badge of honor indeed! I know exactly where Chattanooga is. I live around 20 miles up the road from there! ;) Hope to see you here soon! :D

No worries Ron, thank you for entering, and in perfect form :) I'm sure @JonMcD would indeed make a fine Guardian :)
Thanks Jack! I agree! :)

Interesting lineup indeed. Now Neil Diamond is someone I would have loved to see live. I have an old live album of his (Hot August Night) that is pretty "rocky n rolly" for a pop singer. I would blow the dust off it to play it but my old Thorens turntable is FUBAR'ed as well as the AKG cartridge has needed a new stylus for the last 30 years.
It was a sight to see for a thirteen year old! :)

My Rosewood Big 'Un in the back garden just now :)

Nice photo Jack! :)

Good Morning Guardians
I finally got the call I've been waiting for last night...
I've mentioned a few times how I've been extra busy at work, this is because my school is closing for good and they have laid off all 12 teachers (including me). I was part of a committee to "re-imagine" the school with only 3 teachers left on staff. We've put in a lot of hours trying to figure out how to make it work, knowing that not all the teachers on the committee would be re-hired. Last night I got the call from HR that I will be re-hired for our new school... It's time to celebrate!!! Still a ton of extra work ahead of me as we forge the new program, but I'm happy to get to stay at the school I've been at for 15+ years. Sorry for the long and personal post, I'm just very excited. :)

Congratulations John! Hope your future and that of your school are brighter than before! :)

Thanks Bill, I don't know if @Vaporstang has one or not, but I don't think it's up to me to check. I also hope you could give a better reason why you're nominating someone for a Lambsfoot knife (eg they have expressed an interest in the pattern)
Don't know what I was thinking Jack. My nominee for the GAW does not currently own a lambfoot knife but he has expressed to me that he is sincerely interested in having one. I know that for myself I wasn't sure about owning a lambfoot until I actually acquired my HHB and found out how useful and robust a knife it is. I'm sure that the same is true for many people. What ever your decision I will be fine with it.

Nice photo Jack! :)

Thanks pal :)

I’m also carrying my Rosewood Big'un today! I just took this photo of it sporting a fresh chili dog patina! :D

Interesting patina Ron, looking good

Thanks Bill, @Vaporstang is a long-standing and well-respected member here on The Porch, I'm sure he'd be a great asset to The Guardians

Sorry for the long and personal post, I'm just very excited. :)

JohnDF JohnDF - No need to apologize about being personal John. That's what we'er here for in this thread. Not only to admire each other's knives but to support each other and I can tell you the support of you guys and gals during my latest and ongoing adventure has been uplifting. Good luck in the upcoming school year. Watch out for "Spitballs":)

Jack Black Jack Black - Thank you for the heads up on the biscuits. Lovely images.

Thank you Harvey, I've been trying to find a video online of people's thoughts on British biscuits, particularly overseas visitors. There are a LOT of videos! This is probably the best of the 7 or 8 I watched, and it includes the Rich Tea ;)

Gorgeous stag there Harvey  What a great knife

You're making me hungry! :) :D They look delicious my friend :)
