Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks, guys. Living on the Texas coast, I have been through some hurricanes, and they're no fun! Fortunatley, Rachel is further inland, but Austin can still get some pretty severe weather. It looks like Laura will make landfall further north, near the Texas and Louisiana border. I am sure my wife is keeping a close eye on it.

Wishing all Guardians a good day!

Your Ashley’s Choice is looking good! Y’all be safe down there Vince! :)

Thanks for the compliment on Big Eb Jack! They are beautiful knives! :) I always use ultra fine mineral oil on my knives. I like it because it is food safe. I’ll definitely be checking out one of those Boker Oil Pens and thank you for the info my friend! :)

That’s good to hear Rachel! Maybe Vince will be okay too! :)

A pleasure Ron, when I first saw the Oil Pen advertised, it seemed a little pricey for the small amount of oil, but they last a long time, and are very convenient :)

That was my AC when new, Ron. I will take some newer pics soon. Beautiful Sambar stag. Here's the other side:

Stay safe my friend, it's great to see both sides of your AC :)

Mmmmm :) The best time to eat them :) How're you finding that Lambsfoot blade Henry?

Just re-filling my Zippo, and doing some routine Lambsfoot maintenance ;)

Jack Black Jack Black - Funny enough, I was oiling up my Rosewood Hartshead Barlow last night

and got to thinking that I haven't seen you post any pictures of your Rosewood Hartshead Barlow. Did you keep one for yourself or did you sell them all?

The best lube for metal parts I know of is actually whale oil. That's what gunsmiths used to use, and it does not gum up. I won't use it because...

I really like the teflon oils for storage. They are a bit thin, but they don't gum up. Mineral oil is for stuff I use. It's also my "soak" of choice for really dirty/rusty stuff before I try anything else. I find it does less harm and doesn't affect some of the synthetics like other lubes do.

Is whale oil available at hardware stores? Hadn't seen it.

I guess you must have missed it Ed, I last carried it a couple of weeks ago.

Nice bunch of lambs there Jack! The maintenance is a task that I really enjoy! I actually find it relaxing. It is something I can do while watching TV or even listening music. I like that needle oiler you have there. If you don’t mind PM me the info on where I might purchase one. :)

Thank you Ron :) Someone here put me onto those Boker needle oilers a few years back, they use an extremely fine mineral oil, and if you just want a few drops for a pocket knife joint, they last a long time, and can be re-filled. Boker also do them in a more compact size, which I keep in my ditty-bag :) I believe they are very widely available, so hopefully you can source one in the US

I have a Nano-oil needle oiler too, but the oil isn't food-safe

Jack, I imagine that needle oiler has a pretty fine point on it? I’ve been using this little Nalgene dropper bottle for years. The tip could be finer (and longer), but it works well enough. (Shown here with several Lambsfoot knives I still had out on my table/workbench after a bit of recent maintenance.)

I refill it with mineral oil I bought at the pharmacy (labeled as “Intestinal Lubricant”). :D

Extremely fine mineral oil, eh? I might have to try that. I've been using 3-in-One oil on my joints because I think the mineral oil gums up and I have to clear it out with machine oil anyway.

That’s interesting. I don’t think the pharmacy mineral oil I use is particularly “fine,” but I’ve never had it gum up on me.

I forget who recommended it to me now, possibly eisman eisman ? I have been very impressed with it though, I use 3 in 1 too, and also Ballistol, which I have used as a re-fill for the Boker needle oilers, but the Lambsfoot knives only get the best! :D ;) Nice shot Jer :)

I like Ballistol. I mostly use it for firearms, but I’ve also found it helpful for knives that ended up with some rust on them. Seems to work better than mineral oil for removing rust (without having to resort to some sort of rust eraser or polish).

Stan Shaw still uses whale oil when he's heat-treating his blades, it must be decades old  I don't think you can buy it anymore Vince

Jack Black Jack Black lots of wonderful pictures of your Rosewood HHB

Personally I would have problems to decide which one to take along Rosewood or Stag are both so good looking:):):)

Thank you very much, he's a few pics of the two of them together :)

Very fine Barrett, like a thick syringe  Nice pic there my friend, I have a little oil bottle like that, I got it with some Camelia Oil, but I really don't recommend that, it damaged several old knives :( Unfortunately, you can no longer buy mineral oil from the pharmacy here, and I hate the smell of "unscented" baby oil. Compared to the Boker stuff, I think the pharmacy stuff, and baby oil is very viscous. I bought some expensive Renaissance Metal De-Corroder some time ago, but it came without any instructions o_O I'm saving it in case I find an Anglo Saxon sword stuffed behind a hedge or something ;) :D
