Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

In 2017 I only bought one knife for myself, which was the annual traditional forum knife. Thoroughly enjoying the Guardians I posted/ read here often and for over a year have carried the Lambsfoot gifted to me by Whittlinaway every day.

I had always expressed my interest in the possibility of a Guardians Edition Lambsfoot and had told Greg that were a run to come to fruition it would be the other knife I’d pick up in 2017. Fast forward many months and I’ve been traveling and working for extended periods often with extremely poor or no internet connectivity.... ( 2018...? ) During this time these beautiful knives went from dream to reality and I was none the wiser.

Greg took it upon himself to pick up this fine example and generously gift it to me knowing I was away and would not have the opportunity to secure one. Thank you very much my friend, you are solely responsible for the two and only Lambsfoot knives I own and carry. Also huge thanks are in order to Jack for all his work in making these knives and the Guardians possible and Pádruig for his time and dedication to the beautiful handmade pocket slips. Very nicely done Gents.

This Lambsfoot is an outstanding knife. Dubbed a “ Midnight Special” it is a complete sleeper. When out of direct sunlight it appears a constant and beautiful Jet Black on the mark side. Brought into the light It comes alive with layers and complexity that pictures will not due justice. The pile side is feathered in a way which reminds me of clouds at sunset showing multiple shades and degrees of transparency that blend to create something unique and beautiful.

Have an outstanding weekend Guardians-

What a fantastic tale :) Well done Greg :)

I originally ordered 25 knives from Wright's last year, but decided to increase the number to 30, and take out the 5 darkest knives - the Midnight Specials - while the top layer of horn was blacker than the other knives, they had a subtle beauty all of their own in my opinion, and your excellent photos show that very well. I did keep one of the Midnight Specials back for myself, but gifted it to Gary Peregrin Peregrin recently. You fellers are part of a very select club :)

Beautiful pictures my friend , and also a great description of the Midnight Specials . They really are special . I have 1 of each and I really think that I prefer the Midnight Special over the Flashy ones .

Harry

Very cool origin story Jack  makes the knife that much more interesting and special to me personally.

Thanks Harry  I wish I had a better camera to truly capture the complexity on the dark side of the moon.

Gave the Lambsfoot it’s inaugeral cuts on some lemons and passion fruit from the garden this afternoon while making lemonade for the kids. I did the slicing, wife laid everything out nicely-

Very nice pictures today everyone

It was good, and I've got enough left over for a sandwich tomorrow. :p
That's a great picture of the 'real lamb foot' etch showing even with a little patina. I'm afraid mine is getting harder to see. Must be the jalapenos. :D
Thanks, Rachel. That is some impressive self control, to be able save any of that bbq for the next day! :D

Great pic my friend
I get lucky sometimes. :D
That "watchtower" pic really shows off that beautiful Lambsfoot.

took a can of WD40 and flushed the joint several times today on this sweet Lambsfoot. I just love carrying and using this awesome slicer :)

Looks like you put a sweet edge on it too Duane :)

Do most of you carry the 7cm or 8cm variants? I've been reading through this sub for a couple of days now and I've been bit! Only problem is A. Wright's website doesn't show any 7cm in stock. :(

Welcome :) Wright's are a very old-fashioned company, and their website is done by someone else, it's pretty poor isn't it? :( Lambsfoot knives are continuously in production by the firm though, so if you can't see what you want, there'll hopefully be others available soon  Most of us carry a mix I think, and one of our stalwarts has made a useful index to this thread, which should be able to help you easily find discussion about the different patterns, the link is in post 1 of this thread

Thanks! The majority of my traditionals are sheepsfoot and wharncliffes. Something about those utilitarian blade types really suit my daily requirements. The history of these old blades is really captivating, so-much-so that I'm about to take the plunge! I really like the horn that most of you have but how often do you end up with less than desirable covers? Their ebony covers really do look fantastic, but the only one I can find at the moment is someone price-gouging on that most dreaded auction site :poop:
