Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good morning, with all these photos of snow and ice and food thought i would remind you all what day it is-Shrove Tuesday. Make yourselves some pancakes to warm yourselves up since most of you are probably house bound..

:p:p:p:). Stay warm.;).

Glad you remembered Leon :) Shrove Tuesday is never forgotten at Grumble Towers, and ordinarily I go out for pancakes, and usually have them at home too ;) Today, I'll just be having them at home sadly, but for now, here's a few pics from years past to whet a few appetites hopefully ;)

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is doing OK, particularly our Texan contingent - stay warm folks! A timely reminder from cudgee cudgee to eat your pancakes - who doesn't love pancakes?! :) I'll be having mine later in the day, and I've just remembered I've got an apple pie in the fridge  Have a good day Guardians

Sorry to hear that Bill, it actually brightened up here substantially, and turned into a mild, quite sunny day. Enjoy putting your feet up my friend, brighter days ahead hopefully :) I'll probably spear sausages, olives, etc with the pokey thing, and can see it coming in handy for a few things when I am out hiking. I've used it for nibbling a couple of times already, but I can't remember what for! If nothing else, it's a fancy tent-peg! :D

Thanks David, no worries  Yeah, the pie was tasty :) I'd actually gone out to buy bread, as I'd eaten the large sourdough loaf I bought on Saturday! Apart from a couple of crusts I had with the soup. I picked up some nice tomatoes on the vine, and chucked in a red pepper, red onion, lots of garlic, some lentils, smoked paprika, basil, etc. And Henderson's Relish of course! :D It turned out warm here too, I put on a fleece to go up the hill, and ended up walking back carrying it, together with my cap!

It certainly looks like Spring has arrived there Dan! :) You can dream my friend :)

Jack, I woke up this morning to a sunny day and 63 degrees (deg F):). Things will sure to dry out a little:thumbsup:. Only 20 miles away they had a tornado rip through the community of Ocean Isle, NC:eek:. Some fatalities unfortunately:eek: but we came away unscathed:thumbsup:. Liked you recent photo of the Scottish Highlands. We visited Scotland two years ago and spent a week there - couldn't get enough of it or the Scotch:D.

Aside from that, I have been carrying my HHB today:

The only time I have my Drambuie is when I mix it in with some blended Scotch whiskey and ice cubes (called a "Rusty Nail"). Looks as though you have been eating well!:D

Stunning photo, just stunning..

Sorry for missing this post Leon. That's Loch Linhe from Fort William. I have spent a lot of time in that town, but I never saw much of it before my last visit because I was always up about 4am, climbing all day, and often I was so exhausted I couldn't even eat my evening meal! I used to have a large collection of photos taken for publication, but sadly I lost the entire collection many years ago :( Here's a couple from a little further North

Good news on the weather Bill, but I sure am sorry for those folks in Ocean Isle :( That must have been a wonderful trip my friend, that's a great photo :) Rusty Nails are my drink too, I've been drinking them since I was a teenager! I thought I'd try blending some Drambuie with Maple Syrup for my pancakes last year! :D

My dear old mum could make Pancakes but usually only on Pancake Tuesday. She , like many of her generation who had been through 2 World Wars, Spanish Flu Pandemic and the Great Depression learnt to make do with what they had. Her Pancakes were very simple, but were they any good. Spread with butter, sprinkle of sugar and a squeeze of lemon juice, then lightly rolled up,:p:p:p, and that is how i still make them.:).

Yes, I don't know why we never had pancakes more than once a year as kids! My mother was a terrible cook, but she could make pancakes. We never had lemons, so we'd get them with a squeeze of orange juice and a sprinkle of sugar, which is how I usually still have them too :) The other way was with Lyle's Golden Syrup ('Treacle'), but that is far too sweet for me today :D

I don't want to break the threads rules about things not discussed, but it was a once a year event related to the final sweet feast before the start of fasting for lent. Wednesday is Ash Wednesday the start of lent. Just some history, if inappropriate i will delete this post..

I think that is just an age thing, there are sweet treats that i used to love, the thought of eating them now makes my stomach churn. But yes, treacle and golden syrup were treats as a kid that i loved, :p , could you come at molasses, it was sweet, but great in Ginger Cake.:p:p:p.

Yes indeed Leon :D Black treacle (or molasses) and golden syrup are essential ingedients in a good ginger cake or parkin I think. When I was a kid Golden Syrup was always referred to as 'Treacle' for some reason. The last time I bought some Golden Syrup, it was FAR too sweet for me, but my daughter loved the stuff  :D

Jack Black Jack Black Just posted but i was not concentrating and mucked it up, sorry for any confusion..

No worries mate, you can always go back and edit you know

My wife was planning to make pancakes tonight, but we just got our power back after 36 hours in freezing weather. I think she's making some kind of green chile soup with chicken. Should be ready soon!
