Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

My wife was planning to make pancakes tonight, but we just got our power back after 36 hours in freezing weather. I think she's making some kind of green chile soup with chicken. Should be ready soon!

Good to see you here Vince, and even better to hear that the power is restored :) Buon appetito mi amigo :)

Glad to hear you’re electrified again, Vincent. That’s hard to deal with even when it’s not freezing temps. Hope you make out through without further interruption.

I made a pancake today, you guys were so insistent.
We had pancakes, but not for Shrove Tuesday, just to eat. Always with maple syrup.

I made a vegan pancake of flour, almond milk, apple butter, and maple syrup. And a bit of olive oil to atone for the lack of eggs. I was a bit worried about my all purpose flour, because it had flecks in it. Dead bugs? Bug crap? I was going to throw it out until I noticed that it was whole grain rye flour, not all purpose.

Last night was our heaviest snow of the year on top of our second heaviest snow of the year. I would have scraped some more, but I was worn out, especially after raking the roof edges.

I had mine with maple syrup yesterday. In the past, it was hard to get hold of here, and very expensive, but that's not the case now. That sounds like a nice pancake mix Jer, have you tried using soya flour to replace the eggs, it gives cakes and pancakes a rich taste, and has a high protein content? It looks like you've had a lot of snow there, hope Spring comes soon buddy

Patina is coming along nicely on your Hartshead Jack, I kick myself regularly for not nabbing one when I had the chance.

Thank you very much my friend, it has barely been out of my pocket :)

Good morning Guardians, hope your week is going OK. I have some stuff to do in the house today, but I'm hoping to at least get out for a walk round the block later :) Carrying my @jsdistin Giraffe Bone Lambsfoot today. Have a good one Guardians, and stay safe out there

Hope you're doing OK yourself Mark :) And that our members in Texas and Oregon (and wherever else) get their power back on soon

I had some pancake batter left over from yesterday, so I thought I'd throw it a pan with some cheese and smoked ham, and a little black pepper ;)

Thanks. I'll see about the soy flour. I have many vegan cookbooks, but almost always wing it.
That was our heaviest snow of the year on top of our second heaviest snow of the year. Almost like those good old fashioned winters I haven't missed a bit. Zero degrees by my thermometer this morning, but there's no new snow and the sun is shining.

I've been using it in baking for decades Jer :) By coincidence, I was just checking how my mate and his missus were doing with the Covid. Their youngest has a ton of allergies, and is vegan. They had pancakes made using aquafaba, and they said they were really nice. I always think I am doing well if I get a couple o recipes worth making out of a cookbook, usually I don't get that  Looks like a nice day there Jer, I have just been round the block a couple of times, but it's not that sunny here

One of my latest cookbooks is in the blades upon thread. I got America's Test Kitchen's Vegan, but they're fussy and expensive. I got some fast vegan and a cheap vegan, which vary in their crankiness. The little Good Housekeeping one looks promising- I thought they'd be as normal as vegan can be. And I got a couple of Christina Pirellos most recently.

I guess there must loads of recipes on the internet these days too Jer. A friend of mine did a vegan cookbook a decade or so ago, and gave me a copy for my 50th birthday. It seems to be quite well regarded here, but looking through it, the recipes don't look great to me, and there are no photos. I've only made a couple of things out of it, and had to make adjustments, and wasn't really that impressed. I'm sure there are more recently published books which are better. I noticed that the chippy at the bottom of my road are doing vegan doner kebabs! :D

Thanks to a kind porch member, who reached out to me with good advice, yesterday I received my first (and second) lambsfoot knife.
Thank you, K.

3 1/4" camel bone & 3 1/2" ebony, both in O1 tool steel

These knives are no joke! I was amazed how robust they are. 3mm blade stock! Might as well be my most sturdy folders, both traditional and modern.
The ebony just begs to be used hard. Everytime it is in my hand i feel like bearing down on it with full force cutting something. Can't wait til some yard work emerges from underneath all the snow.

I thought that 3 1/4" will be about on par with swayback gent. Silly me. It's an absolute beast in comparison with it.
