Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

We saw red kites all day, but photographing them is pushing the limits of my simple camera :(

We were just admiring the one above, when a solitary crow tore into it, and attacked the larger bird quite persistently.

Later, at the pub, we sat and watched a fantastic display of 10 red kites, diving and wheeling in the sky above us :)

Cool pic Todd :)

It's good to see you around my friend, hope you're keeping well :)

I've had a nice day out, but as I usually go for a hike on a Saturday, rather than Sunday, I'm feeling a little disorientated! :D Feeling kind of disorientated by the fact the sun is actually shining today too, after so many miserable days  We had a nice walk, saw a whole load of deer, and a couple of dozen Red Kites, and I even got a pint ;) I'll try and sort out some more pics later

That is strange mate, crows are normally cowardly scavenging predators, they will take eggs from an unprotected nest, take the chicks from an unprotected nest, attack new born lambs and scavenge what ever they can. But one thing they won't normally do, is take on an opponent face on or one on one. I had some Magpies where i used to live, and they used to come around for a feed everyday and they would take food out of my hand, i trained them to sing for their supper, got to know the new chicks every spring and they were a delight to have around. One day about 4- 5 crows started attacking a new family of chicks when they were just learning to fly, Mum and Dad soon sorted them out, Dad just dive bombed one from 12 o'clock high, feathers went every where and plenty of squawking from old Mr. Crow, they only did that twice, the first and last time, they have hearts the size of a sesame seed.

Great way to spend some time at the boozatorium. :)

Double bonus, out of the City and a great looking Pastie.:p
Hope all our American friends are having an enjoyable holiday weekend.:)

I enjoyed the pictures of your outing Jack  :)
What are the chances ?, just yesterday I took pics with what it looks the exact same caterpillar, cool :cool:
Thanks Dan :) Wow, what a coincidence  The caterpillar was a surprise, suspended as it was, in mid-air, about 10ft from an oak tree and about 6ft from the ground. If I'd have been breathing hard, it might have got swallowed! :D ;)

Thank you my friend, Sam Smith's Sovereign Bitter :)

I have seen crows mob kites before, but it was a surprise to see one have a go alone. There's a big crow's nest about 50 feet from my front window, in a tree in my neighbour's garden, and I get magpies in my garden pretty regularly too. 'Hearts the size of a sesame seed'! Good one Leon :D

Yeah, it was a nice way to spend a couple of hours. Kites were endangered here at one time, but there is a good population where I was walking today. I see them over my house regularly too, they are beautiful birds to watch :)

Thanks mate :) I had a nice pie for my tea too! :D ;)

Fantastic colours Jer
Great to see your lovely AC my friend, that's an excellent photo  :)

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone enjoyed a good weekend :)

Here, as in the US, it's a public holiday today, though it isn't related to anything here. I thought I'd honour US Memorial Day by carrying this Needham Lambsfoot, gifted to me by Campbellclanman Campbellclanman , which clearly belonged to a US veteran. It's a real battleship of a Lambsfoot. Remembering the Unvanquished

Despite the fact there's what is known as a 'bank holiday' here, I have my second Covid shot today, and have to go into the city centre, which might be a little odd. Years ago, no shops opened on bank holidays, and city centres were ghost towns, but I think that has changed. There's usually a fair bit of heavy drinking going on, later in the day, but as my appointment is this morning, I can hopefully avoid the drunks

Whatever you're doing today Guardians, have a good one

A strange experience going to town. When I set off, there was no traffic on the roads, and when I got into the city centre, everywhere was closed, and there was barely anyone about. There were about a dozen or so folks working at the vaccination centre, but in the 30 minutes I was there, nobody else came in to get a shot. On the way back home, I managed to find a cafe open, so I got a fried breakfast and coffee. Wasn't great, but it made a change ;) Feeling OK with my shot so far

Good to hear you got the second shot and are feeling well!😊

Good morning Guardians and all, not at all an exciting past couple of days. Moving in to our new house is a bit of a pain and boring😩. Spending my day today getting my garage stuff unpacked and my garage workshop organized. It means that there is a lot of heavy duty cardboard to destroy and deliver to the recycling center:). The HHB is ready to go.
