Sounds like an excellent plan JackGood morning Guardians, great weather here today, but as I posted before, I'm very restricted in where I can go because of a triathlon running in Leeds. With a certain amount of guile and cunning though, I've managed to chart a cross-country route to the pub, and booked an outdoor table for the afternoonWishing all of you a fabulous weekend

Very cool! If I had a buddy with a tool stall, I'd probably end up collecting files, in addition to knives and old drafting sets. As it is, I don't run across much variety. It's probably for the best.I thought the marks on this old file were pretty cool![]()

That's neat you make your own lures. When I was a little kid, there was a toy called Creepy Crawlers: basically a hot plate and metal molds you poured plastic goop into and cooked to make plastic worms and bugs, etc. We're planning on getting the kayaks out this afternoon, so I had some baits to make. The lambsfoot definitely earned it's keep this morning.

(when entering someone's house, you knew right away if their kids had a Creepy Crawler set by the distinctive baked plastic smell)

It was good thanks Bill, nice to be out in the sunshine with a pint in my hand!Sounds like an excellent plan Jack. Hope you enjoyed your little outing at the pub. HHB looks very happy
! Rain has stopped for awhile here so I may get a project done (leveling an area for my garden shed on which to sit)
. Going to the hardware store for lumber and galvanized spikes plus some sand or bedding gravel. If the rain comes I'll be back in the garage putting unpacking and organizing things
. Geez, I sore all over
. My trusty HHB is with me again today.View attachment 1577169
I could easily end up collecting all sorts of things Rachel!Very cool! If I had a buddy with a tool stall, I'd probably end up collecting files, in addition to knives and old drafting sets. As it is, I don't run across much variety. It's probably for the best.
Lambsfoot content:
If it keeps raining all weekend, I may get around to fettling with the TEW that Jack sent me. I'll start by cleaning the handles to get an idea of what condition the old Bexoid is in. I may give re-handling a try sometime down the road, but all it needs is a sharpening to get into usable condition.

That looks like a great set-up CoryThanks,r8shell . For the last couple of years I've been on a kick to try to make as many different things as I can instead of buying everything. I'm having a blast finding out just how much it's possible to make at home.
The plastic is definitely pungent and most likely toxic. That shot is actually the interior of a ventilation hood that I made, similar to what you'd see in a chemical lab just very DIY. The fumes are filtered and pumped outside. In this shot you can see what the whole getup looks like, with the hose going from the top of the cabinet to the fan and my enviable glitter collection that comes along with making your own baits.

That's fantastic! Man, I'd have loved to have an assortment of glitters for my Creepy Crawlers.Thanks,r8shell . The Bexoid is interesting stuff. I always thought it was all black, but I see some lighter brown marbling in it. I'll take a picture whenever I manage to clean the paint/putty that's hardened in the jigging here and there. It's looking better already.I could easily end up collecting all sorts of things Rachel!![]()
I certainly have far more tools than I need

That's pretty much how old Bexoid always seem to look unfortunately!

Yes, I don't know if it's consistent at all. They used a lot of checkered Bexoid on knives in WW2, but it may not even be the same material. Unfortunately, they can't get it anymore, and have made do with a more modern, harder plastic. One thing which is consistent with the TEW Bex handles, is that the old ones ALWAYS seem to have paint/putty stuck in the jigging! The Bexoid is interesting stuff. Funny you should mention that. It just so happens that I DID see that thread, and my printer has been running for a couple days printing pieces already.
