Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

...
That's that quite a coincidence about The High Chaparral Gary! It was shown here for a number of years, but then so were The Virginian and Bonanza among others. Interesting what you say about the documentary. I spent some time with McCartney's brother as a kid
...
There's a Castle Hill in Huddersfield, where @adee and @scruffuk live

McCartney's brother (Michael, Mikey??) shows up briefly in this recent documentary. I think he might be there as a photographer, but in one scene, almost everyone in the studio is jamming on some nonsense song where Lennon is simply singing the titles of songs on a proposed list for a live show, and McCartney's brother is on a piano. Did you know him in 1969? I'm guessing you were too young then.
That's an impressive tower overlooking the countryside, Jack!

Total Recall was based on the short story "We can remember it for you wholesale" (P.K.D. was a great writer, but not so good with titles, in my opinion)
...
I liked that movie, and have seen it several times. It seems to have been a staple when my cable system would have a free "HBO Weekend".

I have been enjoying yours as well. 🤠

The first movie was super good, and the second movie was absolutely fantastic.
But you can't watch the second movie without having watched the first one.
...
Thanks, John; I'm afraid I've already used up most of my lambsfoot holiday photos from previous years. :(
Thanks for the info about the Blade Runner films. :)

...
J. Rodgers&Sons
Striking knife, Harvey!:thumbsup::cool: The icing on your Bundtlet looks like some sort of mutant spider trying to devour your cupcake!

That's a grand lambsfoot, José! :cool::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Good Morning Guardians
I was enjoying the outdoors with my pup yesterday evening and remembered to take pictures for this morning.
...
Hope you all have a wonderful day...
John, the only thing better than a lamb-on-post photo is a Sköl-on-pole shot!!:cool::thumbsup: 🤓
(I think that's The Wolf in the second photo.)

Those are fabulous photos Gary :)
VJ is lookin' mighty good, GT, and I bet he rides mighty good in the R F P. ;)
Beatiful Valley Jack portraits, GT.
Thanks for the kind words, Jack & Jeff & Harvey. :)

Fantastic pic, GT!

I must say, I’m envious of your yard waste pickup. I usually have to haul 3 or 4 truckloads of bagged leaves to our town’s drop off site every year. (I didn’t haul that much this year; in my rush to finish, I dumped a bunch of leaves in the woods behind the house.)

Same here, GT. I studied German from 9th grade to 12th grade, plus 3 or 4 semesters in college, and it’s sad how little I remember.
...
Thanks, Barrett.

I think there are pros and cons to any leaf removal system. I like the convenience of the trucks coming to pick up the yard waste, but each residence only gets a single yard waste cart that holds what I consider a quite limited amount of leaves, and it requires a $6 tag for each time it goes out to the curb.

When my daughter was in college, she saw one of my old German textbooks on a shelf and asked me about it. I was surprised that I remembered quite a bit of the very first "conversation" we read in that book. My daughter was rolling on the floor as I read (and translated) the conversation for her in my best (but still bad) German accent, especially when I got to the line, "Es schmeckt am besten." She learned that line, and when she went to the East Coast on a trip with the college orchestra, she met some German visitors at a meal there and got to use the only German she knew! 🤓

...
I never did German at school, and when my girlfriend first suggested going on holiday to Austria a dozen years ago, that made me reluctant. She persuades me by telling me she did German at school. Turned out she knew less than I do, as it's surprising how much you pick up just from watching movies, enough to get by...."Schnell! Hande hoch!!!!!"
Enough to get by! 😁
That reminds me of visiting my daughter in Spain, and her trying to teach me some "basic survival Spanish". I told her I already knew "cerveza" was beer, and probably someone would help me find a bathroom if I asked, "Donde casa de caca??"

My daredevil Barlow helped me make the 'gravy' for 'Sopranos Night' earlier

...
Jack, I hope you're not going to get into trouble with the SPCPK (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Pocket Knives) for all of the risky business you've been doing with your HHB lately!

WOW, you scored a beauty there. That wood is mind blowing.

I had to replace the laces on my boots, but could not find any, or they were to expensive. Found some online by the metre, cheap as chips compared to buying already made from a store. Burned and melted the ends as per your instructions, worked out beautifully. And i now have enough paracord to last me a lifetime, all for about 3 Dollars US. Life's Good.
Thanks, Leon; I'm quite thrilled with my desert ironwood lambsfoot (AKA Valley Jack). The mark side is rich, dignified, and dark, while the pile side is brighter and wilder.

Your knife, boots, and new paracord laces photo really shows off those nice boots!

I have always been heavy on footwear, and while I remember having to replace laces often when I was young, these days, I often find my shoes are worn out before the laces (I always remove the old ones before throwing them out)! I save the old ones as spares

...
That seems to happen to me, too, Jack. In my case, I don't think I'm so hard on footwear, although I'm racking up lots of miles since the start of COVID, but I tend to buy inexpensive shoes that wear out quickly.

I managed to assist in preventing my favourite local cafe burning to the ground this morning When I went in, there was nobody at the counter, but I could hear someone in the kitchen. After a few minutes the proprietor came out, and apologised for the wait, his staff were on holiday, and he was on his own. I ordered my coffee, and asked about the croissants, which are usually in a glass cabinet on the counter. With a look of horror, my server rushed back into the kitchen. Unfortunately, the croissants were ruined, but he was grateful they hadn't been left unattended for longer, and gave me a free coffee
...

The next customer in line was a gentleman from Chicago, who had come over to see his daughter, who is at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, which is across the road from the cafe

Since I missed out on a croissant, I decided to have a bowl of lentil soup in a Greek cafe in the city centre, just the thing on a cold day

...
I was on the edge of my seat reading that story about how you saved the city from destruction by fire, Jack!! 😲 🤓 That lentil soup looks delectable!

I was going to ask about the history of the building that houses the dance school. It reminds me of a mosque I've seen in Chicago, but then I noticed the Stars of David on the facade. The link you provided states the building is a former synagogue, so now I know.

What shape will a Lambsfoot become after frequent sharpening?
A Drop Point? A Spear Point? A Hole Punch? ... I believe mine will become a Pruner.

I noticed the recurve developing, I'm very careful to stay away from the tip while sharpening it... I want to maintain the point.
Interesting post, John!

That's sure a classy lambsfoot, ED!

Swapping my EDC over tonight, this wee beauty goes in my pocket tomorrow!!!

Thanks for the kind words, GT. :)
But alas, that's my Rosewood catching the light just right and showing off for the camera. 😁
Thanks for setting me straight, John.
I've long known that one must beware of a wolf in sheep's clothing, but who knew I'd be fooled by a lamb in wolf's clothing??

Why Thank you kind Sir, I really am very attached to this Knife, isnt it great when you own such a Knife knowing that it will never leave your hands, until that big day ...... and then I hope I have chosen a fitting person who will love that Knife as much as I did! :)

Hello Guardians! I've been very busy lately, and that isn't likely to let up much (although I do have a little vacation coming up!) So I haven't been able to devote as much time as I usually like to Bladeforums. In particular, I have been remiss in sharing about the homemade catsup that @sf fanatic was kind enough to offer. I have to say that everyone who did not take him up on his offer is missing out.

I quickly scarfed down most of the bottle, then realized I hadn't actually taken any photos of the process, so I saved a final serving for a Real Lambsfoot Content opportunity. Then after I finally took the photo of the last of the catsup, I didn't manage to take the time to post it. When I finally took he time today, I realized I was dozens of pages behind in this thread! In any case, here is the last of the catsup topping a delicious burger.

full

It was a tasty treat. I am very grateful to sf fanatic. And if he offers again, I encourage you all to give the catsup a try.
That looks delicious :) Better late than never! :D I hope things ease up in the New Year
Glad you're feeling a bit better, Jack. :)

Good news Jack! 👍
Thanks a lot guys, feeling a lot better today :)
Almost every day my wife does an online jigsaw puzzle. When she finishes it, she often sends an image of the completed puzzle to me (and to our daughter). I usually send her a brief congratulatory email that often also continues some inane in-brain connection that the image she sent elicits in me. Here's the completed puzzle from Monday; I thought it was appropriate for this thread. It's followed by another pic of the LambShark I'm carrying this week.

Mike  I think it would have been a year or two after that Gary, about '71 I think. He was in a band called The Scaffold then

That's an impressive tower overlooking the countryside, Jack!
There are quite of few similar towers or monuments on the northern hills Gary

I was in Cologne one night, about 15 years years ago, and was having a conversation, in English, with a German woman, a few years older than myself. They only time she struggled with her English, bizarrely, the word she was looking for was one of the few German words I knew, remembering it from German-made children's films, which were shown here when I was a child. When I said the word 'Spieglein', we both followed in unison, "Spieglein, spieglein, en der vand!" :D
Enough to get by! 😁

The area where I live has an interesting history, and once had a large Jewish population, with several synagogues, that being the posh one. As the largely immigrant families became more affluent, they steadily moved further and further up the road, and the synagogues moved too. There's a film about the Jewish history of the area, produced by a friend of mine here

Good Morning Guardians and Happy Thursday

I'm glad you like your AC so much Duncan, and hope you carry it for many, many years :)
Good morning Guardians, going up into the 70's today and I'll be on the links. Continuing with my Ironwood today but leaving it at home until I get back fro golf.

Hope everyone is having a great day :) I had a good trip to the market - chips & gravy, and cake! :D

I wish I'd spotted this rare axe produced by the Sheffield Co-operative Cutlery Company before another punter. I did get a pic though (a shame I didn't have my Unity Lambsfoot with me)
