Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

it was muddy in the woods John, and still rather dull and overcast, but I was glad of the fresh air
I'm glad you were able to get out. 🤠
Hope you have a good day my friend
So far so good. :)

The pics were great and that looks like quite the feast. 🤠

Thanks a lot John, I'm glad your day is going well so far :) Hope it stays that way ;) Thanks, with those mezze type dishes, I find it best if there are a few of you, then you can share a greater variety. If you're on your own, you just need to be greedy! :D

My friend, you have all bases covered there, and goes without saying, " Good People ".🤠.

Not sure which is more adorable... The kid or the Heeler pup. 🤠

My kids aren't that cute any more, but my pup still is. 😁

Cool pics gents :)

Good morning Guardians, halfway through the week! Hope everyone is doing OK, and that you have a great day :)

I was sad to see another big old tree was no more, when I was in the woods yesterday. It was about 6ft across, so had been there a good few years. Lot of rotten timber in the trunk though. There are actually a few patches of grey/blue sky here today, and if I didn't have to work, I'd be tempted to go for another walk today

Still a lot of high-character knife handles in there.

Yes indeed Jer, I have had a few catapult forks, and a fair bit of firewood out of those woods. A few years back, a storm dropped a lot of big, old trees there, but most of them are still where they fell. It's always nice to see Old Toffee Wings

Started a new semester on Monday, so getting everything ready for that, and then actually getting the class "off the ground" has been dominating my time for several days. Here are some old quotes on which I wanted to comment once upon a time; I'll see if I still feel the same way about them! ;)

Handsome wood on your lambsfoot, Todd, and that looks like an edge that means business!:thumbsup::cool:

Happy New Year Gary :) It's good to see Lam Jack, and your very good self of course :)
Is that an eye-test chart Jer? Or perhaps a coded message from your Russian paymasters!! :D ;)
My dad played international correspondence chess for decades, and would regularly send a bunch of postcards to the USSR reading 'P-K4', or 'KB3-KR5', or whatever. He was once questioned, in a friendly manner, by M16! :D
Thanks for the warm New Year's welcome, Jack. :)
The "Russian paymasters" comment had me chuckling, as did the story of MI6 "investigating" your dad and his possibly-nefarious international correspondence! 🤓

Interesting, and chilling, pic of your stag HHB, David!:thumbsup::thumbsup: Is that some kind of lock system for boats?
Sorry to read about your impending job loss; I hope you find something better ASAYW (As Soon As You Want).

Great shot Gary! ( of course!)
I'm trying to get back to posting in general, but this thread is like home base, then I hope to find time for some of the other great threads I let... uh-hum...slip through my fingers!😳🙄
Thanks for the kind words. :)
I hear you, Dennis; tough sometimes to get back into the swing of things on The Porch.

Spring is right around the corner!
...
Even though it's been snowing for three days with one break of a few hours.
Lotta snow! o_O I think I heard that Grand Rapids had just under 20" total prior to Jan. 1, and just under 20" more in the New Year, which apparently puts us about 5" above average for this point in the season. Last year we'd had a grand total of 7.5" by this date; that's preferable to me.
I always look forward to your first claim of the impending arrival of spring each winter.:cool::thumbsup:

It's very rare that I drink into double figures these days, but when I was younger, it was considered entirely ordinary to do so virtually every night, crammed in between the standard pub opening hours of 7.00pm and 10.30pm (a few pubs opened at 5.30pm, and later closing time was extended to 11.00pm) The average person drinks less here today I think, despite the relaxation of the opening hours, particularly mid-week and so you don't hear it often, but a common expression used to be, "He's had one over the eight", meaning someone could be excused a certain level of inebriation, considering they had drunk more than the entirely reasonable amount of two gallons of beer (a pint here is 20fl oz)! :D
...

Sorry Gary, the other dishes are Indian, chana masala is a curry, made with chickpeas, in a rich, spicy tomato sauce, rotis are flat bread, and samosas are deep-fried filo pastry parcels, containing potato, peas, onion, spices, etc
...
Many thanks to Gary @Peregrin and Barrett @btb01 for the lovely cards :) I also received a card from Geoff Tweedale, and one from Stan Shaw's widow, Rosemary, who I have often thought of this year
...
That's astounding beer consumption, from my sheltered perspective! 😲 And I don't think I realized that US and UK pints were different; that certainly complicates life! I naively thought that "Imperial" units were uniform through out the world. Are US and UK inches the same size???

Thanks for the Indian food info. We've enjoyed Indian food several times over the years, but apparently not frequently enough that I can remember what dishes I like (or don't). (Had some marvelous nan in Chicago once, as well as very good Indian beer.)

Nice Christmas cards, Jack; thanks for sharing them!:cool::thumbsup:

A new one of RALF

I don't remember RALF having such a ninja-dark blade, Jeff! 🤓 :thumbsup::cool:

We played Ticket to Ride and Five Crowns on our trip.
We also like Monopoly Deal, Uno, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit, Mexican Train, and many more.

Oh tell me about it. I have about a dozen transgender students and I'm very careful not to use pronouns at work any more.
...
I refrain from using pronouns these days and just refer to my students by their chosen name. It's too easy to get tripped up when you use pronouns and I could get in trouble if I offend one of them. Teachers are on the hook for everything these days, we have to be very careful. But, I will say that some of my transgender students are my absolute favorites of all of them, because when it comes right down to it, it's the person you're dealing with and not their gender.
I have a trangender sibling who, fortunately, identifies with singular pronouns. I am totally sensitive and respectful regarding gender identity, but the affront to traditional grammar is a bridge too far!
(I'm joking. I'll call anyone whatever they prefer, but they/them might never sound correct to my ear)
When I'm forced to specify pronouns on a name tag, I always put masking tape over that line so as not to offend people who choose other pronouns.
...
"We will note that they has been in consistent use as a singular pronoun since the late 1300s" (source)
...
Thanks for the game info, John.
Many games I've never played, but I recognize old favorites Uno, Pictionary, Trivial Pursuit.
The pronoun stuff sort of took me by surprise several years ago. Suddenly, email from members of a professional organization to which I belong listed preferred pronouns in the signatures, and as Jer mentioned, conference registrations started requesting pronoun preferences for name tags. Tyson's link to the use of "they" as a singular pronoun was interesting. As Rachel mentioned, it's hard for me to refer to a specific person as "they"; reminds me of the biblical story of the guy possessed by demons who say something like "My name is Legion, for we are many." (And as a math guy, I think that almost all of us are "non-binary" in the sense of rarely using base two numeration.) In my pessimistic opinion, even the most altruistic of us probably have enough vested self-interest that the pronouns we ought to admit that we really embrace are the ones I put on name tag requests: I-me-mine (also an old Beatles song 😁 ).

I find it hard enough trying to remember the pronouns of my knives!
That could be an interesting thread, Jack.
I think I tend to apply male pronouns to most, if not all, of my knives, but I've seen plenty of female pronouns used here, and it would be really interesting to know if folks who use both types of pronouns for knives have a system for deciding what to use for a given knife.

Thanks, Jack.
Yeah, they have just increased my infusions from 2 one hour sessions to 1 four hour sessions. Hope it helps.
...
Cheers mi hombres!
Very cool photo, Dennis!

I hope the change in infusion schedule helps.

...
Thanks Gary, best wishes to you as well.

Terrific looking lamb Gary.
Thanks, Todd.

Doing great. Don’t have anymore symptoms, maybe a slight stuffed up nose. But staying in the bedroom and separated just to be safe. That part sucks, but I don’t want my kids or wife getting the bug.
Good news, Taylor; hang in there!

Thank you Gary. I hope your '22 goes well for you as well. LambJack is a real looker!
...
Thanks.

...
Thank you Gary Yes, it was a real winter warmer! I do like a hot chilli

Lam Jack is looking good buddy

...
I'm really not getting enough fresh air at the moment, due to a combination of the appalling weather we've been having, the climbing Covid infection rate, and a hacking (non-Covid) cough, which makes folks look at me in terror! ...
Treating myself to a Double Lambsfoot Day, though I suspect my Hartshead Barlow will be doing most of the cutting, since it always comes to hand

...
I like hot chili, mild chili, red chili, white chili, chili with meat (of any kind), chili without meat, chili with or without beans, ... 😁
You had a persistent cough for many years, didn't you, Jack? Did that finally disappear, and the new hacking is something different? Hope you shake it soon!

Impressive pair of stag lambsfoot models for your DLD!

Thank you so much for your sincerity, Gary.
I know "The Sound of Music" very well and I really like it.
 🤓
