That’s such a cool picture John.
It is now... In Texas. It's not noon yet!
Thank you, Todd. That’s such a cool picture John.
Very smart looking. Any inside pockets! You can never have enough pockets. Can it be exchanged (before wearing it) for the XXL?Hmmm...I was going to order the XXL
My parcel eventually arrived! Stormy Kromer Mackinaw Wool Coat to go with the vest I bought the other week.

Hmmm...I was going to order the XXL, same as my vest, but the 'store' owner talked me into ordering the XL. Kind of wish I'd gone with the XXL, though it might have been a little long in the sleeve. The 26oz wool is pretty nice, soft and warm, and it's quite stylish, but it's a little narrow in the shoulders and slim in the arm for a lumberjack, even for an old fellerThe collar is nice and high. Pockets stink, my outstretched hand is bigger, both ways, and the top pockets are stupid. What they're for, I don't know (there are handwarmer pockets behind the lower pockets). I wouldn't even keep my gloves in them, and not sure they'd fit anyway
The best thing about this jacket is the fabric, (where most of the expense is), so why not put a bit more effort into the design?
As luck would have it, the temperature is supposed to be in the high 40's tomorrow, maybe even in the 50's, and it's supposed to be sunny, so my new coat might not be the best thing to wear for going to the market tomorrow. Hopefully I'll get a chance to wear it soon, but I don't really need another smart coat for around town, I wanted a rugged winter outdoor jacket, and while I think the SJ will be a warm winter coat, and more hard-wearing than it looks, its lack of pocket space rather limits it for me I'm afraid. Maybe I'll grow to love it in spite of my first impressions
It doesn't seem like a week since I was last down at the market, and I was glad I wasn't down there yesterday as it was absolutely freezing, but I'm looking forward to my weekly trip. I threw a couple of fruit cakes in my mate's box last week, so we have provisionsThink I'm just going to put my Hartshead Barlow on cake-cutting duty though

(That's my vest, pleased with that!)
Thanks Harvey, I think it'd make a great coat for around town, or going to the pub, but as I told the owner (when I eventually got hold of him - bit of a part-time one-man band operation), I wanted a coat for in the outdoors, which is how it's marketed. I agree entirely, you can't have enough pockets! There are none inside though I'm afraidVery smart looking. Any inside pockets! You can never have enough pockets. Thanks BarrettThats a good looking coat, Jack (though I can see how the pockets wouldn’t be very functional). I’m always on the lookout for a nice moderate winter coat, something for when it’s cold but not frigid, that’s stylish and not so outdoorsy- or technical-looking, if you know what I mean. Biggest problem I usually run into is finding something I like that also fits well (or fits at all). Of course, when it’s Minnesota-y out like it was this morning, which started off at -18°, I’ll stick with the warmest coat I’ve got, who cares if it’s stylish.Thankfully it’s warmed all the way up to 16° this afternoon, and might even get near 30° tomorrow… shorts weather!

I hate returning things, and have often stuck with garments that are under/over -sized because of that, but this was quite an expensive coat. What annoys me is that the guy talked me out of the XXL, even though I have the XXL vest, implying the coat was a bigger garment, but it isn't at all. I notice on the US SK site, a few folks mention the tight sleeves, and it's also short in the length, shorter than my pea coat, which cost me 1/10th of the price

Thanks BarrettI was thinking of getting a Filson, which were around £350 ($470) here the last time I looked, but they've leapt to £500. While the wool on the SK is 26oz to Filson's 24oz, the Filson has a double layer over most of the front and back, because of the pockets. The SK is warm, particularly with the added vest, but I don't think it'd cut it in Minnesota at the moment!
Probably OK for a Yorkshire Spring day!
You keep warm my friend

You aren't happy with it, you don't like it. It isn't cheap so send it back rather than be saddled with it.
If it makes you feel better it could be the perfect fit for someone else.
With that thought in mind I’ll add my latest acquisition.Think I owe this thread some Lambsfoot content![]()
