At the top of the photo, you might just be able to make out the bridge which links the two sides of the town. They had the same bridge since the English Civil War, but it was washed away a few years ago. They nearly lost the replacement last week

We went to York via the motorway, which bypasses Tadcaster, on raised ground. It was like crossing a vast lake! There's still a lot of flooding in York, but the water is starting to slowly go down
