Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks Greg, walking in the outdoors is definitely a tonic :) Having recovered from Covid, my mate returns to work today, but has Wednesday off, so we're going out, for what will, hopefully, be a nice hike :)

Great to see the return of your infrequent series my friend :) Nicely maintained Lambsfoot there :)

Nice way to start the week Jer  :)

Fantastic pic Kevin, hope you had a great weekend :)

Thank you very much Harvey :)

Nice work Taylor :) I saw a lot of wood on Saturday, and hopefully one of my wood-burning pals will be interested. I can only burn wood on my fire-pit unfortunately. I have a makeshift 'wood-shed' under which I season it, and add to the pile as and when I can :)

I've heard that book is an enjoyable read Greg, and will probably pick up a copy at some point :)

Good morning Guardians, I hope that everyone had a lovely weekend, and that your week gets off to a good start :) Starting mine with my Hartshead Barlow ;) :)

I hope this week is better than last week for you, Jack.

Sorry to hear about your phone problems, Jack. :(
I recently received a letter from my cell phone service provider informing me that they will be "retiring" all of their 3G service at the end of 2022, and that my trusty old unsmart flip phone will be unusable when that happens, so I need to replace it. Not looking forward to that.

Better safe than sorry, Todd!

High hilarity; you guys are more entertaining than the television! 😁 🤓
Congrats on that sublime jigged bone WCLF, Jeremy; that's the stuff that dreams are made of!!!
:cool::cool:

You're a fortunate man, Leon!! :cool::thumbsup::cool:

Interesting question, Greg.

Most of my knife use is in food prep. Here are some photos of my LamBarJack rosewood HHB after I used it to cut up some "traffic signal" bell peppers for use on a plate of nachos I made Saturday. The photos are intended to show how I hold the lambsfoot (and most of my other knives) for cutting fruits and vegetables. Since I'm right-handed, I wanted to show the knife in my right hand, but that meant I'd be working the camera with my left hand, which is literally not dextrous. So I was usually setting down the knife, using my RH to position the camera in my LH, and then picking up knife in RH again. In the process, I think the grip turned out to be a little different than what I actually use. My index finger on the blade spine (with first knuckle where tang meets spring) is usually straight, and that pushes the rest of my grip farther back on the handle. My thumb is typically holding the handle at, or behind, the midpoint.

Thanks GT, I certainly count myself lucky that I was able to get it and am thankful for the generous Porch member that offered it to me. Though I carried my stag lamb for the weekend, this one is back in my pocket again today.

Great book isn't it. I spent the entire read thinking "well I never knew that".

Spring. At last.

You've piqued my interest now David! :) Great pic of your Hartshead Barlow :)
Inner child? What's that?

The ray gun makes a whirring sound and generates sparks in the red part, which are focused into a death ray by the silver bit!
LOL! :D I had a Dan Dare Ray Gun quite like that Jer, probably be worth a fortune now! :D
I've had the page for this Latin phrase bookmarked since last summer. Seems like it would definitely be a question of interest to us Guardians of the Lambsfoot.;)
What was the Guardians Latin motto we were all going to have embroidered on our blazers a few years back Gary, I've completely forgotten?! :D
Thanks for the replies, Jack. :)
I've been reading about your boiler challenges for over a week (and hope that the most recent repair does the trick), but I'm not exactly sure I know what you mean by "boiler". When I hear "boiler", I usually think of a major component of a heating system pumps hot water through pipes to heat a building. I think they're quite common in schools and other "institutional buildings" in my area, but not very many private residences have hot water heating any more. So then I wonder if "boiler" is the term used in Yorkshire for what I call a "water heater", which is the tank used to heat water to be pumped to the hot water faucets in sinks, showers, bathtubs throughout the house.
There are several different types here Gary, and I have had two different types. It heats hot water, which goes through pipes to radiators, on the walls of each room, to provide heating, and also provides hot water.

When I got in on Saturday evening, the radiators were cold, and the pressure needle had dropped below zero. I ended up fixing it myself
Holy Handsome Barlow, Batman!:thumbsup: 🤓
Thanks Gary :D :)

They never stop wringing money out of us do they? The radio I had bought for £20, a decade or so before, packed in about 18 years ago, and as they were supposed to be making all the radio channels digital here at the time, I paid over £100 for a digital radio. They use a lot more power, and since then I have had to buy 2 more. The third is on its way out now, and plans to digitise all the stations has been abandoned, so I'll be going back to a cheap transistor radio  A 'cheap' phone is now anything under $500 apparently  So far, I'm not very impressed with my new phone, it's very 'clunky'. It's 5G, but we're only on 4G in my area  Good luck Gary

Good luck Bill  You may be able to relate to this ;) :D

Good way to start the day, my friend. :)
Thanks John :) It's been quite a pleasant one, I went to see Barber Brian, had a look round the market, and, for lunch, I had a nice sandwich in a Mediterranean cafe, which came with a 'potato salad' ;) :D

You are indeed fortunate Jeremy, I don't think the Waynorth Lambs change hands often, and that's a real beauty :)
Good Morning All: hoping for a smooth Monday. We have a chance of severe storms this afternoon , fingers crossed. Horn today

That one is taking on some nice character Pete :) Good luck with the weather, fingers crossed for you here

Alright, Guardians.

'Tis time for a giveaway.

I thought a wee bit on how I wanted to conduct this giveaway and wondered if I should present it within the confines of this special thread or in the forums abroad. Since this involves a special knife, I opted to keep it here and though folks who tune in here now and then are welcome to participate, this is by and large, for the Guardians proper.

Like myself, some of you have been here for awhile, a few quite a bit longer than myself. My first post in this thread was back in 2017, on page #56 - frankly, with all that has gone on, it feels like a lifetime ago. In the words of the glam rock band, Cinderella, "The more things change, the more they seem the same". In essence, despite all the changes and events over the last few years, one of the things that has remained a constant is my fondness for the Lambsfoot.

I have had the good fortune to be able to participate in most (if not all) of Jack Black's "official" SFOs. Through Jack's hard work and diligence in holding A Wright & Son to his standards, we have had the great pleasure to experience the finest knives produced from that particular factory. If you have not experienced one of Jack's SFOs, this will be your chance to gain the opportunity.

I will keep the rules simple:
1. Please be a member in good standing (not just here, but throughout BF proper)
2. I would prefer that you have at least posted here in the Guardians or will attest to lurking. I will take you at your word.
3. If you are fortunate to have won and you end up not liking the knife, please consider offering it to a fellow Guardian (I can help facilitate if needed). Obviously, I can't enforce this - it is simply a request.
4. This is a giveaway in Jack's honor. To enter - share a story, memory, or thought with Jack in mind. You all know I like pictures, so please include one with your entry as well
5. Feel free to share as many as you would like - it will still remain 1 entry per person.

I am not putting geographical limits on this. If you win, I will work with you to get the knife to you as soon as prudently possible regardless of locale.

I will let this go for a couple of weeks and will link the giveaway in my signature. I will log the entrants and will devise some manner of picking a winner - it will be randomized in some way.

On to the prize.

I came into this knife without intending to. I won't get into the details but simply put, I was trying to help out and ended up with a knife, one that I already have an excellent example of. This is Jack's 2019 Guardians Exclusive SFO, dressed up in beautiful Ironwood, fluted bolsters, and a high carbon steel Lambsfoot blade. Some have said this is one of Jack's finest - it is a matter of preference (I am partial to Ebony and Stag myself) but it is an incredibly fine knife all the same.

It is used and you will see some patina on the blade and the Ironwood has darkened some. The gorgeous grain shines through beautifully though and despite my attempts to capture it, my pictures do it no justice.

Best of luck to you all!

I'm not in because a) I don't participate here enough to really feel like a proper Guardian, and b) I already have that SFO!

But that said, the thing that always pops into my head when I think of Jack is when I sent him a knife of a type that shall not be mentioned here. The lady at the counter thought it was very funny that Jon Krier was sending a knife to Jack Black. Obviously my name is spelled a little differently to the actor, but I guess she was a Two and a Half Men fan. It's just a little story, but it is mine.

And here is my 2019:

Nice story Jon, and a great pic of your 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot :) I once knew a Michael Caine! :D

Thank you, Jack. :)

Sounds like you had a very nice day, Jack. 🤠

I've been mostly drinking coffee, water, and lemonade.
A bit of sunshine makes a lot of difference my friend :)

(As does not having to wait in for a boiler repair! :D ;))

Good for you John, I've had two strong coffees today, and a small bottle of mango juice. Mostly I've just been drinking coffee, water, and tea. It's pretty dull isn't it?! 🤨😃👍

It's not too bad. I don't drink a lot of beer and I really have sorta lost the taste for soda pop.
The harder part is watching my wife and kids eat cookies, pies, and going out with them for ice cream and just watching them eat it.
That sounds worse than my fridge of cold beer John!

Off to a good start, Jack.
That's a vibrant vintage Lambsfoot, Harvey, but I have trouble focusing on it with chocolate chip cookies in the vicinity :thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thank you GT. Me too. Love your Lambfoot examples
