I own every episode on DVD, and I've watched them all five times through... 76 episodes x 5 viewings = 380 hours of entertainment.
Sounds like a favourite John πŸ˜πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
Cool pic of your old TEW Dwight 😎 A shame they don't still make knives in carbon steel, I find that old steel cuts like the Dickens πŸ‘
Sorry to hear about the sciatica and internet woes, Jack.

Congrats, Mike!

Good morning Guardians. Another day that the heat index is over 100 degrees F. I'll be staying indoors for the most part doing some light chores and catching up on some reading in the company of my HHB. Probably go to the gym for some light workouts too.

Hope you're doing ok Bill, you take it easy buddy πŸ‘

Hope everyone is having a good day. It's about 80 here, and a pretty nice day. I wasn't expecting to go anywhere, but my friend Matt, who I was with on Yorkshire Day, offered to take me to the supermarket, and even carried my shopping in for me. My fridge was looking a bit bare, so I was glad to stock it up again :)

When I was a boy, before the supermarkets came along, every other street had a row of small shops - a grocers, butchers, green grocers, hardware store, and a bakery. In the bakery, the missus would be up front serving customers, while the baker baked bread, and all sorts of delicious treats, in the back. There aren't many left like that unfortunately.

One of the things they baked were pikelets, either square, or more usually round. About half the country called them 'crumpets', and when the supermarkets and big bakeries came along, they said 'pikelets' on one side of the packet, and 'crumpets' on the other, but because they were called crumpets in London and south east England, it wasn't long before they were just sold as 'crumpets'.

It's a shame that we've lost the old word, not least since, in Sheffield, 'pikelet' is an affectionate, but mildly derogatory term for someone who is being a bit daft.

Not only did the name change, but the quality began to go downhill, and eventually they were transformed from a delicious snack into something which tasted like cardboard. As a result, I have largely stopped buying 'crumpets', but I saw these square ones in the supermarket, and thought they might taste better. They didn't unfortunately ☹️

One day, when Yorkshire is an independent nation, we will dine on tasty pikelets once again! πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‰ And in the meantime, I shall try to remember not to buy crumpets, which never taste anywhere near as good as they look! πŸ™„

Beautiful scenery, John. What a wonderful place to escape to. Glad you caught a few
Thank you, my friend. :)
Just five times?
Yes, once when it first aired, once again with my wife on re-runs, once again by myself when I got the DVD set, and once with both of my boys... I should watch it again.
Sounds like a favourite John
Most definitely is... I thought the writing was excellent and the characters were were very well built up.
I sure hope you get some relief soon, Jack.

Sounds like what happens here with Northern California versus Southern California.
The cultures and landscapes are vastly different, but the population is greater in Southern California, so they pretty much end up controlling the whole thing.
I always joke about hating the Bay Area and drawing the imaginary North/South line just above it because culturally they are much more similar to Southern California than they are Northern California. There has been a push to create the 51st State of Jefferson which would separate Northern California from the rest of the state... but it doesn't gain much momentum. There's your small cultural lesson for today. 😁

Thanks for that John :) I've had similar discussions with Horsewright Horsewright , who like your good self, seems to be a long way from what most of the world thinks of as California, though you are certainly closer to the historic culture of the state πŸ‘

When I lived in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (1978-84) there was a movement that advocated the succession of the U.P. from the rest of Michigan to form the 51st state, "Superior". Like Northern Californians they felt underrepresented, with Detroit dominating politics. There weren't very many people in the U.P.

Good morning Guardians, still struggling here today ☹️ Hope everyone is doing OK, and that you have a great day πŸ‘ Posting another old pic I'm afraid πŸ‘
An oldie that’s solid gold. The struggle is real, but good to have friends. Hang in there. Better times to come.

You just about have to make many staples yourself to get that old time goodness.

Living in the heart of America's "fly-over" region I too dream of an independent nation... I don't even recognize the idiots who are now making all of the decisions for us.

Thank you my friend, that's very true. I have just put a blackberry crumble in the oven πŸ™‚ That's a very imaginative photo Harvey, great-looking Lambsfoot too πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
Cool image John πŸ™‚ Is that a sunflower? πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
Morning Guardians. Jack, I hope you find some relief today!

We’ve hit the road, headed out for a hike this morning. Around an hour to get where we’re going, so not too bad a trip.

Have a great day!

Thanks a lot Mike, I'm definitely in a lot less pain than yesterday πŸ‘ I hope you have a lovely hike, watch out for that lamb on the road! πŸ˜‰πŸ‘

When you get to our time of life, you kind of think you've seen it all, but there's always something to surprise you πŸ™„πŸ€¨πŸ‘
