Thank you, my friend.Beautiful scenery, John. What a wonderful place to escape to. Glad you caught a few
Yes, once when it first aired, once again with my wife on re-runs, once again by myself when I got the DVD set, and once with both of my boys... I should watch it again.Just five times?
Most definitely is... I thought the writing was excellent and the characters were were very well built up.Sounds like a favourite John
I sure hope you get some relief soon, Jack.
Sounds like what happens here with Northern California versus Southern California.About half the country called them 'crumpets', and when the supermarkets and big bakeries came along, they said 'pikelets' on one side of the packet, and 'crumpets' on the other, but because they were called crumpets in London and south east England, it wasn't long before they were just sold as 'crumpets'.
Thanks for that JohnThank you, my friend.

The cultures and landscapes are vastly different, but the population is greater in Southern California, so they pretty much end up controlling the whole thing.
I always joke about hating the Bay Area and drawing the imaginary North/South line just above it because culturally they are much more similar to Southern California than they are Northern California. There has been a push to create the 51st State of Jefferson which would separate Northern California from the rest of the state... but it doesn't gain much momentum. There's your small cultural lesson for today.![]()
Hope everyone is having a good day. It's about 80 here, and a pretty nice day. I wasn't expecting to go anywhere, but my friend Matt, who I was with on Yorkshire Day, offered to take me to the supermarket, and even carried my shopping in for me. My fridge was looking a bit bare, so I was glad to stock it up again
When I was a boy, before the supermarkets came along, every other street had a row of small shops - a grocers, butchers, green grocers, hardware store, and a bakery. In the bakery, the missus would be up front serving customers, while the baker baked bread, and all sorts of delicious treats, in the back. There aren't many left like that unfortunately.
One of the things they baked were pikelets, either square, or more usually round. About half the country called them 'crumpets', and when the supermarkets and big bakeries came along, they said 'pikelets' on one side of the packet, and 'crumpets' on the other, but because they were called crumpets in London and south east England, it wasn't long before they were just sold as 'crumpets'.
It's a shame that we've lost the old word, not least since, in Sheffield, 'pikelet' is an affectionate, but mildly derogatory term for someone who is being a bit daft.
Not only did the name change, but the quality began to go downhill, and eventually they were transformed from a delicious snack into something which tasted like cardboard. As a result, I have largely stopped buying 'crumpets', but I saw these square ones in the supermarket, and thought they might taste better. They didn't unfortunately
One day, when Yorkshire is an independent nation, we will dine on tasty pikelets once again! And in the meantime, I shall try to remember not to buy crumpets, which never taste anywhere near as good as they look!

When I lived in Michigan's Upper Peninsula (1978-84) there was a movement that advocated the succession of the U.P. from the rest of Michigan to form the 51st state, "Superior". Like Northern Californians they felt underrepresented, with Detroit dominating politics. There weren't very many people in the U.P.Thank you, my friend.

That's what makes it hard to split off. There weren't very many people in the U.P.
An oldie thatβs solid gold. The struggle is real, but good to have friends. Hang in there. Better times to come.Good morning Guardians, still struggling here todayHope everyone is doing OK, and that you have a great day
Posting another old pic I'm afraid

You just about have to make many staples yourself to get that old time goodness. Not only did the name change, but the quality began to go downhill, and eventually they were transformed from a delicious snack into something which tasted like cardboard.
