Mildly entertaining is good enough for me.

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is having a great weekendIt was hot here last night, I kept thinking I'd switched the central heating on by mistake!
These old houses take a few days to cool down, and while it's overcast at 7.00am here, it's still pretty warm outside. Not that I've been outside, but I've opened the window!
I had to keep all the windows closed last night because my neighbour's party was LOUD, and went on halfway through the night. I got a fitful few hours sleep courtesy of my ear-plugs!
Sadly, another dull day looms here, so I hope you all have a more enjoyable and exciting one

You ought to write a book. Thereβs enough material. Aggro on top of discomfort. Relief canβt come soon enough. Keep as steady as you can.I'm just having a couple of pikelets with a cup of tea

Bearing in mind my disparaging comments about supermarket pikelets a week ago, this may seem surprising, but they are part of the Tool Man's bountyWhen he rang me the other evening, offering to fetch me some shopping the following day, I suspected that my friend had had a drink
Sure enough, the following day, while the offer still stood, he was considerably less enthusiastic. There was no need asking for complicated things like vegetables, since he lacks familiarity with them, so I kept it simple. I needed some bread, and I know where he shops, so I know what they sell. There was no point asking for sourdough since what they sell as 'sourdough' isn't sourdough, and I knew the Tool Man would either balk at the price, or fail to find it. So I asked for a Granary loaf, as he knows what that is, or failing that, wholemeal. However, I still didn't trust him to get the bread, (I was right not to do so, he turned up with something awful), so I asked him to get me a packet of bagels as a Plan B. He got me pikelets, the cheapest he could find, so I'm having them with black cherry jam to try to give them some flavour

Sounds like a good plan Mike, better than sitting looking at an electric fan!Morning Guardians. Headed out to the lake again today. Took the niece and nephew yesterday, and friends today. Not much else to do in this heat unless we want to hunker down at home with the A/C![]()

Thanks for keeping us posted JohnSorry to get off topic, but that's what us Guardians do, right? I just wanted to share my excitement with you all...
I was busy watching the Drum Corps International finals the last three days. They start early in the morning and run late into the evening, with over 42 corps competing from across the nation, and members from around the world. I'm happy to report that the Sacramento Mandarins finished in 10th place with a score of 90 points, their highest ever. Plus, they were only a half point away from 8th. The three corps in 8th, 9th, and 10th battled it out all Summer. I'm super proud of my son and the whole corps achievements, it was the most competitive year ever. He even got a couple of job offers, one to teach marching at one of our biggest high schools in the area, and one to be a brass instructor for one of the DCI Open Class corps next Summer.
