Rob, I am so happy that it made it to you safely and that you are happy with it. Despite all the troubles that were endured getting these made up and out the door, it truly was a pleasure and I look forward to seeing them in the future. Hopefully everyone else will get theirs soon, including those who are waiting overseas.

In early December '17 my friend Jack acquired two knives from A. Wright for me. These were the large model Lambsfoot pattern. One was in Pere David Stag and one was Buffalo Horn. The horn model had some of the most beautiful horn I have ever saw on the mark side. The pile side was nice but nothing like the mark side. To make a long story short, the horn model developed a horrible case of warpage. It was worse than anything I could have imagined. I took pictures and Jack showed them to Wright's but they didn't really have any answers. I loved the knife because it had excellent fit and finish and the fact that Jack was so kind to pick it out for me. I decided to have it fixed where I could enjoy it to the fullest! I contacted our friend @glennbad and we decided to rehaft the Lambsfoot with some Ironwood that Glenn had on hand. I think the results speak for themselves in the photos. I know that Ironwood can be difficult to photo because of the orange and brown tones that show up in different angles of the light. I really appreciate Glenn's work and the skill he exhibited in making this into one of my most cherished Lambsfoot knives.

The beautiful horn as it left the factory or before photo. The severe warpage developed in the end next to the bolsters. I had some photos that showed the warpage but I believe I have misplaced them on another device for now.

Ron, that is absolutely gorgeous! I agree with Jack, Ironwood suits it quite well. Simply just beautiful, I hope to see more of it in the future.
Glenn does some excellent work, I do believe I am on his books for a project of mine, hopefully he will free up soon.

I have the 2018 ebony with me today, enjoying a bit of coffee .

The Lambsfoot has been made with covers of just about everything Ron, and Wright's use Ironwood. It would probably have been my choice for this year's Guardians knives if I'd known how much trouble the horn and ebony was going to be! Looking forward to seeing more of that one my friend :) You should get the horn made into a key-ring or something! :D As standard, Wright's only use the more characterful horn on the mark side of their knives, though with the Guardians knives I requested it for both sides. I've had no trouble with the horn Big 'Un I posted above, which I've had the longest, but think horn is perhaps best avoided on the longer pattern, particularly for those living in hot, dry climates. Here are a couple of those pics (even worse than I remembered)!

You may recall me telling you about a problem I had with the horn on another couple of large Lambsfoot knives, which I think were probably made with the same batch of horn. The warping wasn't as bad as on your own knife, the pic below shows the worst of it, but I was nonetheless shocked to see them in this state. Strangely, when I looked at them a few weeks later, they had returned to their original state, with no sign of warping. In retrospect, I think I may have left them sitting in the sun

Wow Jack, it looked worse than I remembered! :( Thanks for posting those. You would certainly get my vote for an Ironwood 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot if we are so fortunate as to have one! :)

Thanks once again for doing these for us again Dylan, you have done a fantastic job - just like last year :) Well done :)

I have been wanting to find a project to send Glenn's way for several years! I need to up my game! ;)

Another beautiful pic of your ebony '18

Thanks, Jack 4" from bolster, that is a Big Un.:thumbsup:

4" closed Dave! :D :)

Thanks Dylan! :) The '18 Ebonies are beautiful knives!

Me too Ron! I have to say, I'm not sure everything can be blamed on the climate with that one o_O I would certainly like to do an Ironwood Lambsfoot at some point my friend :)

I suspected that it was not all due to climate! o_O Count me in on that Ironwood my friend! :)

I think Wright's are a bit too quick to shrug their shoulders about this sort of issue Ron. None of their knives should end up looking like that, no matter where they're exported to - or they should change design, materials, storage, suppliers, etc

Thank you, my friend. The wildlife over where these pictures were taken is comprised of Osprey, other birds, some squirrels and chipmunks, and most certainly bears. These tracks were found not 50 feet from our campsite when we were up here last year.

Unfortunately, we were not alone on our wilderness outing this time around, my chosen spot is getting more and more popular, I am afraid. I think Saxon was curious about the other canine that he could hear on the other side of the lake where some other folks had made camp. I might have to find another spot soon if I want to enjoy the quiet and solitude.

I took this picture while I was out over the weekend as well and posted it in a different thread. I think it appropriate for here.

BCS4LMe.jpg

It's a shame your losing your solitude! I guess thats what happens when a nice spot becomes known. Very little true solitude in the UK these days. Mind you, would the extra people be more likely to keep the bears away or attract them? My brother lived in Montana for a number of years and said he hated bears because "there cleverer than dogs but as crafty as humans"
I don't think people in the UK understand that. If you go for a walk in the US, depending where you are, there is a genuine risk that something could eat you... :D
I find it fascinating myself! I hope Saxon has the makings of a good bear alarm
And a great shot of your lambsfoot. You must have a truely excellent camera

I'll get this out of the way before I forget. My lambsfoot for this week is my rosewood Union Jack:

Thanks, David. :) I enjoyed your comments on new job challenges, meat pie ingredients, and photography techniques!:cool::thumbsup:

Liking the Union Jack shot there GT  And heres a shot of my lunch on Thursday. A genuine pork and apple pork pie...

I'd have probably bought two pies, but we had to leave room for the Eccles Cakes! :D

Theres always room for Eccles cakes  It's great to see that great Lancastrian delicacy making such an impression on right side O' Pennines Jack!

That ironwood looks stunning! :thumbsup:For me it's reminiscent of the grain you find on the shells of Horse Chestnuts, which in my opinion is one of the finest of natures patterns but of course totally unsuitable for knife covers

Looking good David, hope you can get that bureaucracy wrestled into shape!

With the heat we've got here at the moment, I thought I'd have a cold one with my Thai lunch :)

View attachment 952291

I've never come across a Thai beer before. A chilled one looks perfect for this weather were having
I wrestled with the bureaucracy all Tuesday through Thursday and barely made headway. Woke up yesterday steeling myself for another fruitless day but then spat my dummy out and decided to go to Stafford Beer Festival instead :thumbsup: Much more enjoyable.

It went well with the food too :) Sorry to hear things aren't improving with the bureaucracy :( Stafford Beer Festival sounds like a big improvement! :D Hope you had a great time my friend

I took my son and my old friend, Mr. Wright along today to an old time gathering of antique cars, tractors, motors, and various neat stuff.
Enclosed is a picture of Mr. Wright in front of an old engine from around 1900.
A second picture shows an old leather belt driven sawmill. Pretty impressive how that big blade slices right through those large logs.

Yeah. I think Brits can't get their head around the fact that, in many parts of the world, it's people who are the pie.... :D
Not had a Vimto in years. Another fine Lancastrian invention :thumbsup:

Fantastic pics! Looks like a great day out. I love agricultural shows and rallys. The bench saw is just like the one my grandad had in his barn

Hope everyone has a nice Sunday planned.

LOL! Yes, a great drink for sure, like dandelion & burdock and Tizer, it reminds me of being a kid - and not much does these days! :D I sometimes have one in The Globe at Glossop

That looks like a great start to the day my friend, fantastic stuff :) I was just thinking of a sausage sandwich, and you've definitely made me feel hungry! :D

The Globe? You do well then. I don't think I've ever made it past the Star...:D I've tried of course...

If you want to feel young again, get a dvd of Roadrunner cartoons. Seriously, I sit there watching them and it's like I'm 5 again :D

And today must be a slow Sunday for you. I thought Sunday in Mr Black's Yorkshire was sausage butty Sunday every week  Bon appetit! :)

LOL! :D I like The Globe, but their beer is not the best. I'll give the cartoons a try, it's years since I've seen any! :D I used to love it when the BBC managed to squeeze a Tom & Jerry cartoon in between the end of the news programmes and whatever was scheduled next. You never knew when it was going to happen, and sometimes there'd even be two! :) I think Top Cat was my favourite as a youngster though, and Noggin The Nog when I was younger still ;)

Yes, I'm behind schedule today mate, but I got there in the end! :D ;)

Noggin the Nog....?? Thats a new one on me; I'm going to have to investigate more :) Nor do I remember the impromptu Tom & Jerry. They should do that nowadays; I reckon that would cheer up a few folk :D
Ok cheers for that, I've always meant to check out the Globe cos it's there own brewery there isn't it. And it's the one with the veggie food I think to.
