Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Great-looking vice behind your Lamb Todd  :)
Thanks Jack, it was my father-n-law’s, kinda special. 😉👍
Good morning Guardians, another wet and gloomy day here, with temperatures in the high 30's. I'm hoping it might be a bit better when I go to the market tomorrow, but I think it's more likely to be much the same  Have a good day Guardians :)

Pull the collar up and keep your head down Jack. 😄👍

For sure Todd :)

No worries there, I've got a house full of Everest level clothing from my climbing days! 🤣 I'm glad my boiler is working again though! :D

A real heirloom Lambfoot. Man, that jigging is inspired
Thank you very much my friend.
Dwight, that is one of the stand out Lambs here at the Guardians. A beautiful piece of craftsmanship highlighting all that is good about the design.
Much appreciated Leon.
Smashing Dwight
Thank you Jack.
I knew I had a book on Joseph Gales somewhere (though he's mentioned in virtually every Sheffield history book I have)

I've heard folks observe that Sheffield cutlers were being opportunistic by adding American revolutionary slogans to cutlery, but the American cause was hugely popular in Sheffield
"how great a crime to tell the truth" - No phrase could be more apropos for today's pseudo-cultural insanity.

Cosimo dropped me a line today to correct me on the steel he used making the new two blade lambsfoot. It is made of K720 of Böhler-Uddeholm carbon steel! This pleases me to no end since it will take patina and be more historically correct for a TEW. :)

Lockwood Brothers made a decent knife. Shame about the snap, but you can't beat that old steel

Is it a Lambsfoot though, or a Sheepsfoot, sometimes hard to tell from a photo?

Here’s some better photos for you Jack, she’s all lamb 😊

There was a funky grind on it when it became mine, may have been some sharpening of dubious quality before my time.

The etch, swage and location of the nail nick make me certain it was born a lambsfoot

It’s cold and wet here today so, flannel lined pants and sweater/vest combo it is.

Cheers

Love the 18s, Jack. 🤠
Perfect blend of hard-working and elegant.
Thanks a lot John :)
Good morning, Guardians, a beautiful day here in SW Florida for more than one reason: 70° and sunny, and . . . our new roof is finished! They still have the gutters and downspouts to put on, but no more leaks. :D  Carrying the Benini custom again, and for sometime to come; I love this knife!

Thank you very much, those are great pics :) Nice to see the original etch has survived :)

Here's a photo of the factory where your knife probably started out :)

I’m confident of your ability to take lemons and turn it into lemonade. BTW…😎
One of my favorite users, an old Lockwood Brothers 🐑

Snap is gone but I can get a helluva nice edge on this blade…you can still make out the A,B and two O’s on the blade etch.

Please tell us more.👍🏻

Bill, are your friends in Raleigh familiar with (the name of) Joseph Gales, the founder of The Raleigh Register? He is a very famous Sheffielder, and would have known the Barlow family well, having his shop and office opposite their home in the Hartshead. Inspired by Thomas Paine, he founded The Sheffield Register in 1787. He was eventually forced to flee state persecution, escaping to Germany, and then to America, where he finally settled in Raleigh, founding the town newspaper, which he continued to edit for 40 years. He died in Raleigh on the 24th August 1841, at the grand old age of 80. His youngest son, born in North Carolina, succeeded him as editor. His elder son was also a journalist, joining the National Intelligencer, in Washington, in 1808, eventually passing away in 1860. If your friends don't know of Gales, he is well worth researching

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Gales_Sr. (Eckington, where Gales was born, is an outlying district of Sheffield, located 8.5 miles from the city centre.)

Jack, our friends in Raleigh just moved there from Oregon so I doubt they are familiar with Joseph Gales but I will ask. Joseph Gales and his dependents sound like very interesting people. I will do a little research myself. Thanks for your comments. Raleigh is growing at an astonishing rate along with the rest of Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill). It is called Research Triangle because of it's proximity to Dke University, University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill) and NorthCarolina State University as well as being a hub for technology and biotech companies.

There is plenty of information online Bill, I hope you find it interesting :)

Great way to start the day :)

It's early evening here, and a bowl of thick tomato and lentil soup seemed like a good foil to the miserable weather :)
