Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Great score Pete, congratulations my friend  :)

Great to come home to Paul :) Congratulations

Looking good David :)

So that why I can't get hold of a Lambsfoot anymore! 😤o_O🤣

It's been great to see the Lambsfoot go from being virtually unknown in the US, to being increasingly sought after, but seeing them actually being manufactured there, really is the icing on the cake :) Well done Guardians, we've not only been witnesses to cutlery history, but participants

Thanks pal, it's a shame I'm going to miss the parade this year, but I'll try to get a few pics :) I was going to post a link to my post from last year, but the 'Search' function seems to have gone missing!😖

Good to have you hear Paul :)

:)

Interesting tip

Good morning Guardians, I better hit the road or I'm not going to get to York! :D Hoping the high winds don't disrupt my travel  I'll catch up with the rest of the posts when I'm on my way :) Have a great day everyone

The leather footwear is very interesting too! Looks as though it's period correct.

Hope you have a great time in York, slower bus service be damned.

I recognize that tartan, Jim does a nice job with packaging. If you want the rosewood to pop try some 1000 grit sandpaper and a little tong oil. Here’s mine afterwards.

I took some 0000 steel wool and some tung oil to my rosie lamb. I posted before/afters earlier in this thread somewhere!

I'm curious, how many coats of tung oil did you do?? 😀 It looks very nice!!

Jack hope you have a good day at York. Nice Lamb you have today! 🤠
Thank you David, just setting off back now. It'll be at least a couple of hours before I'm back home 👍
Good morning to all and happy Friday.

This horn required some 2000 grit Sanding..way to shiny for me...View attachment 2085663
That's some interesting-looking horn Bob 😎🙂
Good morning Guardians. Found some money, that I must have forgotten about, in one of my rain jackets. Always fun to find money when you aren't expecting it. Wait! EURO's! Left over from our tour of Eastern Europe no doubt. It's all coins so they will make good golf ball markers. They will also be good company for my HHB that came to me from across the pond.

A barmaid in a pub slipped me a five Euro note, (instead of a five Pound note), the other week! 🤨 Nice photo Bob 🙂👍
Got to be an Old Friend Jer 👍

Most of them take it very seriously 👍 The family that slays together, stays together! 🤣😉👍

Thank you Jeremy, too 11/2 to get over this morning, twice as long as it used to 🙄👍

I was hoping to pick up some Tru-Oil from a large hardware store in York, but they didn't carry it ☹️👍

Thanks Jack, I was surprised at the quality of it.
Hope you had an enjoyable day at the fair.

That Tru-Oil from the BPS Knives thread sure did look nice!! I wonder what the finish feels like in hand.

I guess I can post my lamb 😝 I did two coats of pure tung oil on this one, 24 hours apart, sanding with 0000 steel wool in between coats. It didn't seem to want to absorb much more oil than that and I didn't want to darken the wood too much. But, I did probably 5-6 coats on my BPS Knife and it didn't darken it too badly. Even my axe handles which have gotten MANY coats of tung oil did darken, but not unattractively so. Who knows, I may end up giving an annual tung oil treatment to my lamb afterall 😉

Nice surprise Bob 🙂 It's made a change, thanks 😊 Going to take a while to edit all the pics though 🙄😁👍

I thought I'd seen it in that store, where one of 5K Qs 5K Qs Lambs, Union Jack, came from, but the whole place has been reorganized since then 🙄 I was looking at lemon oil, which was only available in very large cans, and noticed the instructions stressed it should only be used on UNTREATED wood.

That looks good 🙂👍

The rosewood will improve from use. I tend to use a knife as a worry stone so it gets rubbed with skin oil, dirt, food grease etc. I also rubbed on some everyday brown shoe polish which is pretty much just a colored wax.

As received, pretty lackluster but has potantial.

As it is today; looking pretty good.

I think I had seen a video or read something where Tony Bose recommended Lemon Oil for treating wood. So, I started looking into it some. Didn't know it was only supposed to be used on untreated wood! Good info!! Lemon Oil seems really popular as a furniture finish (and probably much more).

And thanks for the compliment!

I know from my experience with axes that sweat, dirt, pitch, hand oils, and god knows what else definitely add some quality character to wood. And, to be honest, I'd venture to say that this would darken wood more than tung oil ever could.

Very nice! Cool to see the before and after 😁

Peregrin Peregrin has been using the same bottle for years I think, with very good results 🙂

I was talking to a knifemaker I know at the Viking Festival today, and he showed me some stabilized stag, which I have never seen before, so far as I can recall 👍

Wright's always buy the cheapest materials they can find, which is probably true of the other Sheffield factory cutlers too, and Rosewood is their budget wood. Their Rosewood comes in in blocks, and they don't treat it with anything, either before, or after its used. The building is cold and damp in winter too, so there's little wonder that the character of the Rosewood on their knives can vary a fair bit, and benefit from some extra TLC 👍

If that allows them to keep costs down I have no problem with it. It's like a treasure hunt or getting a diamond in the rough. We get the pleasure of bringing out the beauty in the wood.
