Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Great score Pete, congratulations my friend  :)

Great to come home to Paul :) Congratulations

Looking good David :)

So that why I can't get hold of a Lambsfoot anymore! 😤o_O🤣

It's been great to see the Lambsfoot go from being virtually unknown in the US, to being increasingly sought after, but seeing them actually being manufactured there, really is the icing on the cake :) Well done Guardians, we've not only been witnesses to cutlery history, but participants

Thanks pal, it's a shame I'm going to miss the parade this year, but I'll try to get a few pics :) I was going to post a link to my post from last year, but the 'Search' function seems to have gone missing!😖

Good to have you hear Paul :)

:)

Interesting tip

Good morning Guardians, I better hit the road or I'm not going to get to York! :D Hoping the high winds don't disrupt my travel  I'll catch up with the rest of the posts when I'm on my way :) Have a great day everyone

Looks like you are having a fun day Jack !

Good morning to all and happy Friday.

This horn required some 2000 grit sanding..way to shiny for me...View attachment 2085663

Very nice, congrats !

After consuming the large doughnut with considerable relish, I headed off to find some Vikings, some Viking festival this was turning out to be! I headed towards the market place, pausing to check if the Vikings were ensconced in Valhalla, but there was no sign of them :(

The market is now being billed as 'Europe's Most Interesting Market'! I hope that isn't the case because half the stalls were empty, and there was precious little of interest among the others, It was even more uninteresting than the last time I passed through it!

The Vikings were supposed to have an encampment nearby, so that is where I headed. I looked in both directions, but there was not a Viking to be seen. I could see something at the top of the street, but...

It seemed the Vikings - "Vikings"! - had been routed by a bit of wind! o_O It wasn't even windy now, it was a bright, sunny day! 😖

I decided to head to the Merchant Adventurers Hall, where the Viking traders stalls would hopefully be found. They were, and it was nice to speak to Jacek Robotka, who has made a couple of knives for me. I had a look round the other stalls, and spoke to a few people, but the only other item I purchased was a very attractive pocket whetsone, made from jasper. I'll try to get a photo tomorrow.

After leaving the hall, I walked up another historic street, passing one of my favourite York pubs, and went into Barnitt's hardware store.

As previously related, I was unable to find what I wanted in Barnitt's, so I headed to an antiques centre.

It's located on one of York's oldest streets, and I had a good look round, but there were only a few knives, and they were ridiculously overpriced

I turned left down Stonegate, making way for a young couple to pass me by :)

I had a look round a second antique shop, but saw nothing of interest sadly :(

With York Minster behind me...

I retraced my steps, spotting a rare pair of "Vikings" coming out of Macky D's! 🤣

Heading back to the bus-stop, I passed a pub I once stayed at in 1981...

I don't remember any mention of ghosts when I stayed at the rather pokey little place

Sadly that was York Viking Festival for another year, and I can only hope that next year's is better! If the BF search function resurfaces, you'll be able to find photos from previous festivals by searching within the thread
Grand tour Jack. Thanks for sharing.

Slàinte Mhath, Jack! I've enjoyed your excursions today.
Thanks Dylan, I'm sorry I couldn't get more photos of the Vikings! :(
Recycled pic, I am afraid (taken last season, I think) but I am making a bit of a return to form and I have this one in the pocket today.

Fantastic photo my friend, what is the flake, it reminds me of the St Bruno my dad smoked when I was young?

Thank you, Jack. That is Orlik Golden Sliced, a Virginia/Perique blend (or Va/Per) - made in Denmark, if I recall correctly.

May not have been the best Viking festival Jack, but I still enjoyed the posts. 😎👍
Thanks Todd :) I was in that old church on Goodramgate, and there was a lady selling a bunch of Viking brooches. I heard her say, "That one represents ALL the gods."
"Gods?" I thought, "How did you get this place?!" :D ;)

Afternoon Guardians! Sure enjoyed your pics Jack. Sorry the festival didn't turn out as well as it should have. Captain is longing for the open sea. But alas he's landlocked in a sea of grass on the Kansas prairie. He takes it in stride and is a good companion today.
