After consuming the large doughnut with considerable relish, I headed off to find some Vikings, some Viking festival this was turning out to be!

I headed towards the market place, pausing to check if the Vikings were ensconced in Valhalla, but there was no sign of them
The market is now being billed as 'Europe's Most Interesting Market'! I hope that isn't the case because half the stalls were empty, and there was precious little of interest among the others, It was even more uninteresting than the last time I passed through it!
The Vikings were supposed to have an encampment nearby, so that is where I headed. I looked in both directions, but there was not a Viking to be seen. I could see something at the top of the street, but...
It seemed the Vikings - "Vikings"! - had been routed by a bit of wind!

It wasn't even windy now, it was a bright, sunny day!
I decided to head to the Merchant Adventurers Hall, where the Viking traders stalls would hopefully be found. They were, and it was nice to speak to Jacek Robotka, who has made a couple of knives for me. I had a look round the other stalls, and spoke to a few people, but the only other item I purchased was a very attractive pocket whetsone, made from jasper. I'll try to get a photo tomorrow.
After leaving the hall, I walked up another historic street, passing one of my favourite York pubs, and went into Barnitt's hardware store.
As previously related, I was unable to find what I wanted in Barnitt's, so I headed to an antiques centre.
It's located on one of
York's oldest streets, and I had a good look round, but there were only a few knives, and they were ridiculously overpriced
I turned left down Stonegate, making way for a young couple to pass me by
I had a look round a second antique shop, but saw nothing of interest sadly
With York Minster behind me...
I retraced my steps, spotting a rare pair of "Vikings" coming out of Macky D's!
Heading back to the bus-stop, I passed a pub I once stayed at in 1981...
I don't remember any mention of ghosts when I stayed at the rather pokey little place
Sadly that was York Viking Festival for another year, and I can only hope that next year's is better! If the BF search function resurfaces, you'll be able to find photos from previous festivals by searching within the thread
