Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

This thread is cracking along almost as fast as the daily trad' carry thread  ...
Large rosewood today for some work in my mum's garden.
qTkBecv.jpg

Oh P.S. That's not my mum's garden :D
...
I agree, David; the pace of this thread has certainly moved well beyond "leisurely"!:p Great photo, but I certainly needed your P.S.! ;)

...Thank you for all the kind compliments, GT.

...But just like with every art, an artist has his/her own tastes ...

The last pic I posted is of the very first Ebony Lambsfoot knife I acquired.
...

Thanks for more photography comments, Dylan. I fear the "taste" or style question is my biggest challenge. The artistry isn't even a consideration for me yet; I'm still striving for consistent clarity and focus. Thanks also for the comments on your evolving attitudes regarding your ebony knife.:cool: Great shot of your stag lambsfoot; its buttery color is unforgettable!:thumbsup::cool:

... So far only external rashes and itchy areas! Heaven forbid getting this stuff in my lungs!
...
Are you back to smooth-as-a-baby skin now, Ron, or still fighting the itches?

...
Thanks GT, your Man Jack is still swell :)
...
Thanks for the Wright stag "senator" info, Jack! :)

...
I think that's true of a lot of things to do with our knives GT! :D

when I lived in France, I was a fan of saucisson d' Arles, which is horse, pork, and donkey!

...If you've drunk English ale in a pub, bitter is almost certainly what you have drunk
...

There was some discussion, led by @r8shell I think, in the Technical forum. I sure hope that doesn't happen!

Thanks GT, it actually has a slight flaw that one, the tip of the blade just pokes out of the frame. I can get that fixed at the factory, but I didn't want to mail it out to anyone else like that. I am very pleased with the stag though, and think every single knife is stellar, there isn't a single one I wouldn't be proud to carry :) There was another knife with a slightly off-centre blade, but I ordered extra to cover any flawed knives, and they have certainly exceeded my expectations :) Ashley done well :)
...
There was a lot of discussion about that much earlier in this thread! :D ;)
...
Thanks for your kind replies to all my random ramblings, Jack; you're a very gracious host of this thread!;)
There's a dish that combines horse, pork, and donkey (and you're a fan)?? I thought turducken was a bad concept!
I guess I'll find some English ale and see what bitter is like. :)
Thanks for the pointer to the photo storage discussion in the Tech Forum.:thumbsup:
I hope/expect the "slight flaw" in your glamorous ACL can be remedied quite easily, Jack!:thumbsup::cool:
Discussions that occurred "much earlier" in the thread are lost on me nowadays. :( I just finished a 600-page novel (large print edition added to the page count) that I'm sure I had read a few years ago, but it was still an enjoyable read! I had no idea what was going to happen in the thrilling plot, although after each plot development, I'd say, "Oh, now I remember that part."

Unfortunately, GT, I don’t know anything about public transit in the area, ... That is, as long as she doesn’t mind waiting for a bus in sub-zero temps on a regular basis. :D
...
Thanks, anyway, Barrett. :) She was wandering around the university last week, and sent me a photo of a bus (or light rail) shelter with the usual 3-sided kiosk, but on the side was a large panel labelled "PUSH for Heat", so maybe the cold isn't as big an issue as we think!:thumbsup:;)

I'm 57 and have never experienced "sub-zero temps." Am I missing out?
I'm always told that the cold builds character, so I imagine you're not as fully developed a human as you could be Prester John Prester John ! ;):D

REALLY appreciate that comparison shot, Rachel!:thumbsup::cool: I hope you're getting some relief from the back pain, and that it doesn't cramp your style during Labor Day festivities! ;)

When I grow up, I want a sambar lambsfoot just like yours, Ron!!:thumbsup::thumbsup::)

ha ha as they say, " it will buff right out" :p My first trip in an ambulance :cool:
:D:D Probably not a laughing matter at the time, though! When I was a kid, my dairy farmer Dad bounced a running cain saw off his shin one winter, but it wasn't deep. My recollection is his shins had perpetual scabs, knees to ankles, from various blows that farm life dealt. ;)

Can't wait to see these in everyone's hands
There's a lot of that going around, Jack! ;) What's the background in this pic of your new stag lambsfoot?

Every year, less and less of my students have seen Monty Python's Holy Grail. It's a sad reflection on today's youth.
:D When I teach an intro stats class, we learn a dozen different inferential techniques, and I warn the students that the real challenge on the test (and in real life) is deciding which method to use for a given situation. I then say they must answer 3 questions each time: What... is your name? What... is your quest? ... And I still have a critical mass of students who "get it"! :D:p (Of course, the "real" 3 questions are: Confidence interval or hypothesis test? Mean or Proportion? 1 sample or 2?)

Me too John, it's a long time since I saw the Road movies, but I really do think the Three Stooges and Marx Brothers are genuinely timeless classic humour :) They were ancient when I first saw them, and they were as funny as it gets :) I'd say the same about Laurel & Hardy, Langdon, Keaton, Chaplin, etc :)
:cool::thumbsup: I used to watch I Love Lucy and Dick Van Dyke Show reruns as a kid. I also watched lots of TV comedy shows in my teens, 20s, and 30s, and those later shows had very few ideas or gags I hadn't seen earlier on those 2 classic TV comedies.

It's been a LONG week, and I know next week will be too, so I'm taking tomorrow off, ...
I know the back problem is a factor, and you mentioned last weekend that you'd be busy this week, but I still thought the "LONG week" comment was amusing given your posts about the bank holiday leading to a short week. ;):D (Despite all the sub-zero temps I've experienced, I'm still lacking in empathy.)

I didn't expect to have time to post this morning, but insomnia paid me a dividend! :D Enjoy your Saturday Guardians :)

Hey, I've been waking during the night recently; maybe I should start using that time to catch up with the Guardians thread and others with high traffic volume!:thumbsup:;)

That's a pair to be proud of, Joshua; congrats on doubling down on navy lambsfoots!:cool::thumbsup:

-David.
Always great to see The Eye, David, and I admire that mug, given that I used to always tell my daughter that my motto is, "Shut up and play the cards you're dealt.":cool:;)

I came across this picture of my first uke. ...

So you've played almost your whole life? You must be good!:cool::thumbsup: Is the book in the photo something like The Golden Book of Uke Tunes? ;)

... Wright's do a Bexoid Lambsfoot, but it's only slightly cheaper than the Rosewood model.
What do you think of their jigged bone lambsfoot models?

My wife could absolutely make that mug. What a clever idea!
Sign me up for one, Shawn!:thumbsup::thumbsup: What would you estimate the price, including S&H, would be for an early adopter? :D

Thanks, GT. The "hot spot" was most likely caused by a glop of apple juice/pulp that wasn't wiped off right away. They say "A apple a day will keep the doctor away. " So I eat two. :D
The Man Jack is sporting some mighty fancy file work!
Is that one a new addition to the collection?

Thanks for the patina info. :) Great photo (and great concept for a horror movie ;))!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I won my Man Jack in a GAW about 3 years ago sponsored by @R.c.s from Manchester, England (hence the Man Jack name). So it was actually my FIRST lambsfoot!

Last day to carry the Man Jack for a while:

Thanks for the Wright stag "senator" info, Jack! :)

I know a couple of people who claim to have named that pattern GT, they could both do with going and learning a bit about pocket knife patterns!

There's a dish that combines horse, pork, and donkey (and you're a fan)??

Yeah, I don't know who ate who first! :D It's a long time since I've eaten that sausage, the fat content would be too much for my stomach now I think [/QUOTE]

I hope/expect the "slight flaw" in your glamorous ACL can be remedied quite easily, Jack!:thumbsup::cool:

Thanks pal, I haven't had time to look at it yet, but I think I can probably just drop the point into the frame

+1 on that :)

There's a lot of that going around, Jack! ;) What's the background in this pic of your new stag lambsfoot?

A pile of hand-knapped Norfolk flints GT :)

It was a LONG SHORT week GT! :D

Hey, I've been waking during the night recently; maybe I should start using that time to catch up with the Guardians thread and others with high traffic volume!:thumbsup:;)

I generally sleep much better than I have done for several years, thanks to my CPAP machine, but the pain in my back kept me awake last night, so I checked in here! :D

What do you think of their jigged bone lambsfoot models?

I think the cheap bought-in bone lacks character, and that they should find a better source. Since they sell very few of the jigged bone models, they don't really have an incentive :(

Most of the itching is gone however the infected areas are not clear yet. :( I’m mighty proud of that Sambar Lambsfoot! :D

GT- I have the same problem, only with movies ;) I've watched Fargo 4 times :p

It's well worth watching 4 times! :D

Morning Guardians, hope our US and Canadian friends are enjoying their long weekend. Just another Monday here, not complaining about that, but the post office looms, and Monday is always the busiest day

Carrying the same as yesterday today :)

I was wondering what that book was too. The fact that I'm clutching it with the uke would suggest it was uke-related, but I don't remember having instructional materials. I thought it was unreasonable of Dad to tell me I should learn chords and melodies instead of just whacking the open strings.
(I also don't know what that partial box or drawer-front on the floor was, or why the chair seems to have criss-crossed wooden spars.)
I bought a non-plastic uke about twelve years ago as an effort to stave off dementia by weaving a wider synaptic net, then forgot about it.
Having bought and repaired a couple more ukes, and being more senile than ever, I'm picking my way through Randy's Modern Ukulele Method before tackling Sokolove and Beloff's Fretboard Roadmaps, which blew me away on page one.

They've been using it in Sheffield since at least WW2. Wright's do a Bexoid Lambsfoot, but it's only slightly cheaper than the Rosewood model.

Unless you buy one from Goodalls in Malton. Then it's not :D

Great mug! Saw a sign in San Antonio that said "KEEP CALM AND CARRY", a reference to firearms (legal to do here in Texas). A mug or sign or shirt that said "KEEP CALM AND CARRY A LAMBSFOOT" would be cool!

Thanks PJ. The "Keep Calm and Carry On" slogan came from WW2. Here's a great Wiki page on the history and how it ended up on everything from mugs to cushions.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_Calm_and_Carry_On

I'm not sure though the British are quite like this anymore. I think "Panic and Run About Hysterically" would be more apt, though I much prefer GT's slogan; though I don't think that would of helped win a war. :D

Cheers GT, thanks for kind words. What will you be carrying instead of your Man Jack or is that a surprise?
I've just laughed my way through your post. I like your slogan; you should make a poster of it
And your dad was lucky. I remember a few years ago working trauma orthopaedics. Every Bank holiday was absolute carnage and a lot of the injuries were chainsaw and circular saw related. I remember a case a few years ago in the city of Cambridge were some chap bought a chainsaw to cut up a tree in his back garden but he'd never used one before. Anyway it kicked back on him and completely decapitated him at the neck

I couldn't remember who'd mentioned about British bitter a few days ago. I may of posted this years ago in the Beverages thread, but here it is again. This is a link to the Campaign for Real Ale; a campaign group who arguably saved the independent British brewing industry from extinction. It's their page describing our different beer styles

http://www.camra.org.uk/different-styles

I generally sleep much better than I have done for several years, thanks to my CPAP machine, but the pain in my back kept me awake last night, so I checked in here! :D

Folks if anyone is having trouble sleeping then the last thing you should do is fire up your smart phones and laptops. There's some recent research that suggests that the blue light emitted by modern LCD screens very closely mimics the blue light in daylight. This is activating the Reticular system in the brain; the part that controls our sleep/wake cycle. So if you look at an LCD screen in the evening or anytime during the night, your effectively fooling your brain into thinking it's morning, which then activates the brains wake-up functions. This then prevents you from falling (back) to sleep. There's a suggestion that this is the cause of the huge rise in reported levels of insomnia around the world (but especially in the developed world). It is only early research though.

No actual knife at the mo as I'm stuck in front of a computer most of today. :(:( I may cut up a few tomatoes in a bit :)

Hope it's all gone soon Ron :(

Thanks Jack, I hope so too my friend! I see no reason to change out those two either Jack! :)

I’m following at least half of your carries for today Jack! ;) Although, judging from the fact that you got yours from the factory, I’m confident that it’s of better build quality than mine. Mine, being a very usable knife, it’s most assuredly is a 2nd quality example. :D
