Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Yeah, my mate went recently with his family, not sure whereabouts though. I tried to call him, but he's frightened to answer his phone at home in case his missus disapproves 😒 I've been looking at some YT videos, doesn't look dangerous, just a bit busy
Maybe the Bulgarian crooks are now making all their profits scamming online. 🤣 🤣 🤣 .

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, and that your batteries are charged for the week ahead. I have some work to do this morning, but then I am heading off to a local market town for lunch with a friend. Got my Hartshead Barlow in my pocket, and a song in my heart! :D ;) Have a good one Guardians, I hope your week gets off to a good start :)

I obviously don't pay enough attention Steve! :D Thanks for that pic, and for raising this :) Just looking through the knives I have to hand, with an illuminated magnifying glass, the following have exposed pins (had to blow out some muck and pocket fluff to see)...

2019 Guardians Lambsfoot
AW Ebony Lambsfoot
Ashley's Choice Lambsfoot
AW Rosewood Big 'Un

These don't...

Hartshead Barlow
Sambar/Damascus SFO

Knives in both categories were made by the same cutler, which makes it peculiar. I have to say, it's a long time since I actually looked! :D

I'm sure you'll manage to have fun and share lots of pictures... we are looking forward to it.
Thanks buddy, it was fairly inexpensive at least :D
Hello all. Thought I'd drop in. My goodness it's hard to keep up with this thread.

I sometimes feel a bit of a pretender in these parts. Because although one of my favorite knives is a lambsfoot, the pattern itself is not.

Still, I am doing my best to imitate pmew pmew 's dad's knife.

Try as I might, I can't seem to patina those polished bolsters. They remain stubbornly shiny.

Great to see you call in Christian, a rare treat my friend! :D I hope pmew pmew is doing OK :) Those nickel silver bolsters won't patina easily, GEC used the good stuff! :D Nice blade patina though :)
Is this the same Whitby that gives us the famous Whitby Jet? 🤔 I wonder if it would be possible to get a piece of jet, and have it used for the covers of a lambsfoot. Obviously not a knife you'd want to drop, but if they can make knives with mammoth, they should be able to use Whitby Jet as well.
It is indeed Christian, I think that would be a rather expensive knife :D I remember, years ago, when I was in my late 20's, I found a small piece on the beach. I took it into one of the Jet shops, and a lady showed me a trick whereby the Jet would briefly appear brown if you rubbed it with the sandpaper on the edge of a matchbox. She said it was worth around £10, and offered to buy it, but I said I'd prefer to keep it. Back in Sheffield, I showed it to my climbing buddy. He looked at it, and said it was something similar, but not actually Jet. I related what had happened in Whitby, and he told me that the matchbox would have the same effect on a range of similar minerals, at which point, I remembered that my friend, who had trampled on my dreams, had a doctorate in geology, and probably knew what he was talking about! 😖 😂 I did look at using coal for some covers. A small collective of former Yorkshire miners were producing various items made from a material they had developed, which I think was essentially coal and phenolic resin. I approached them about it, but they were hard work to deal with. I did buy some of their products, as samples though, a number of small 'fairy doors', which were passed on to the children and grandchildren of a few members here :)
Jack, I think Bulgaria will be lots of fun. Fingers crossed you find some quiet.
Thanks Pete, hope so :)

Thank you very much JJ :)

Good morning Guardians, a busy day today, so I'm going to put these knives back away, and get on with it :) Have a good one Guardians, I'm carrying my Hartshead Barlow

There's an event here, in early May, I'd rather avoid, so I was thinking of having a short break overseas. I received an email earlier, advertising some cheap holidays in Turkey, and I kind of accidentally booked one in Bulgaria, on the Black Sea! 'Sunny Beach' I quickly started regretting it, as it just looks like a big, loud beach resort, even though the hotel itself has good reviews, but I'd lose 30% of the cost if I cancel it, so think I might have to just go, and spend my days wearing earplugs, and getting sozzled. Liberal knife laws at least
I'm sure you will find a way to make " lemonade out of that lemon " Jack. Like Paul said throw some booze in it.😁

Thanks Bob, I hope so my friend 😊 When I was young, my mother had a friend, whose husband, Brian, was a short Irishman from County Sligo. He was active in his trade union, and they got discounted holidays in the old Iron Curtain countries, like Bulgaria. Unfortunately, most of the holidays ended in disaster, as Brian would get so steaming drunk on the plane that he would be refused admission, and sent back on the next flight, together with his very embarrassed wife!.😱🫣😁

I'm sure once you venture outside the hotel area, you will be pleasantly surprised Jack.

What was that Bond book where a couple of Bulgarians tried to blow up Bond, but they set off the escape diversion device the Russians had given them too early and blew themselves up instead? Casino Royale maybe. And it was a Bulgarian who shot the pope, but not very well. You'll be fine, Jack.

I think they were making synthetic jet even in Victorian times, but demand may have fallen after old Vicky left us and took her perpetual mourning with her.

Very nice indeed.

Thanks mate.

That is one handsome lamb Bill.

No more for me either Bob. I'm lucky to have made it as long as I did.

Amazing image. Mesmerizing lamb.

Thank you Paul.

THAT is an EQUALIZER.

Looks delicious.

Bummer Barrett. Very nice truck too.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

😂 Ain't it so!

A new one from across the pond. Steve I'm sure this is the same knife you got a refund on. Blade is tight but there is no snap. The seller stated as much. I jumped on though. 😁View attachment 2106563
Thanks Dwight

Sorry to hear that Mike. It's a consideration though isn't it, you don't bounce so good as you get older, or heal so fast  Old George was a great guy, he had a side-box, which he often carried guns and crossbows in, and his missus would sit behind him. I sat on his bike a few times as a kid. The problem he had eventually was that, when he left the bike parked up, people would steal parts off it as souvenirs! 😖 He could get the parts OK, but he was left in a jam if he'd gone to the seaside for the day, or whatever. After he passed, his son inherited the bike, he'd had it for decades

It wasn't easy to fit in the car! 😂

Interesting Jer, you're very learned my friend :)

When the film Lawrence of Arabia came out, the ABC Cinema in Sheffield, rented George's bike, and they had it on a revolving plinth in the foyer!

George told me that when he got his first motorcycle, a Royal Enfield, it was before gears, and you had to set off running and jump on the back! :D That wasn't so hard, as the roads were empty :) There were no tests in those days, and you just bought a license from the post office :D
The British motorcycles were great works of art! My roommate during my freshman year in college received a completely disassemble Triumph Bonnevile in a crate whilst we were in school. We assembled the Triumph on the floor of our room and promptly got some fuel in it and went riding. My rear end was numb for an hour afterwards because there was so much vibration. Great times.

It's cold here today, and I'm just warming my cockles in Charlie's before heading into town 👍

Some really great shots of your HHB Jack. The pile side, especially.

Good morning Guardians. Going over to my friends house today for homemade sausage making. We'll de-bone about 100 pounds of pork shoulder, grind and add our own spices. I alway ad about 20% bacon to my sausage concoction. Decadent! My HHB will no doubt get into the act.

I found this old clock, that my father made many years ago, packed away in a box full of old memories. I think I will resurrect it to working order.

Maybe they use the non exposed pin on the Barlows and candle end patterns because of the narrower handle ???

Hope so Bob, there's an interesting old town, not far away, which looks to be well worth a visit. That is much more kind of thing than lying on a beach

I think you are right Jer, and there was a Bulgarian assassin in From Russia With Love too. It was only a few years ago that I learn that, in the film, Rosa Klebb was played by Lotte Lenya :D

Great project Bill :) I had a Triumph Tiger in my late teens :) Tool Man had a BSA Gold Star until very recently

I really don't know Steve, but I'll dig out a few more candle ends shortly, and have a look
Coffee and some workshop time. Not a lot done this morning as my son got up early and wanted to play. View attachment 2108644View attachment 2108643
The work never stops with young children does it Daniel? :) Looks like you're busy with other work too, but please be aware, for the future, that this thread is limited to Lambsfoot knives

It's been very cold here today, with snow flurries throughout the day, but the temperature is set to drop further tomorrow, with more snow forecast. Going to be a cold day on the market 🥶 After getting my errands done in town today, I called down at the market for a bowl of my favourite Vietnamese pho 😋 Unfortunately my PC is now refusing to recognise any of my card readers, which I use to transfer my photos. It's probably a Windows issue, rather than the PC, but I am probably going to have to replace them 😠 Hope everyone is having a nice day
