Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

My lambsfoot and I broke down a bunch of cardboard in the garage and figured we’d earned ourselves a snack.

Rice crackers, Lancashire cheese, and roasted Hatch chili. The lambsfoot handled the slicing for the snack, too, of course. :)

Tasty-looking snack Greg :) Here's mine from last night, just some pate and sun-blushed tomatoes (with garlic and herbs) on Scottish oatcakes. I find the Lambsfoot surprisingly good for spreading

That looks like a fine snack and a fine helper, Jack. I don't think I've ever spread anything with my lambsfoot. I'll have to rectify that.

And, your Ashley's Choice is looking splendid. I hope you've enjoyed carrying it today.

Thanks Greg, as I'm sure you would do instinctively, by turning the blade around, and using the 'nose', the Lambsfoot turns into a very efficient spreader, and there's no point to get in the way :)

I did :) I went to get a haircut. I've been going to the same barber, (Barber Brian as we call him - as in Ba-Ba-Ba Ba-Barber Brian), for about three years, before that I used to cut it myself. We have a number of mutual friends, so we always have a chat, he's cheap, quick (no messing about), and I like to support his business. His barber's shop is down a flight of stairs in Leeds market, he has photos on the walls of the shop in the 1960's, and it is exactly the same today. I keep meaning to take some photos. Anyway, I didn't know, but he collects knives too, mainly fixed-blades, but he's familiar with the magazines I used to write for, and like me, he used to shoot too. The subject came up because I said I had just been to the post office, and ended up showing him my Ashley's Choice Lambsfoot, which he was extremely impressed with :) Nice connection

I just did a quick search online (my internet connection is appalling right now), and came up with this (no, that's not me in the chair! :D) :)

Preach it, Brother Dylan!:thumbsup: Sorry to hear that shrinkage has hit your 2018 horn Guardians knife. ;) Doesn't look TOO bad in that pic.:thumbsup:

Thank you, GT. I must confess though, I did stage the knife so that the unpleasantness wasn't too obvious. Even so, I think the shrinkage is more noticeable in hand due to the exposed liners and their sharp edges digging uncomfortably into the hand.

Here's my lambsfoot for this week (Union Jack) when it was brand new:

Fine picture of your Union Jack, GT. I also like the Henderson's. I am a recent convert, and having ordered some, I've already gone through a third of the bottle, it just goes so well with so many things.

One of the many things I've learned on The Porch is that without pictures, it didn't happen. Here's a pic of what's happenin'! :p:rolleyes:

And here's a pic of the Union Jack I've been carrying all week with a rather bookish tie (taken to be posted in the Neckties and Knives thread at some point):

I have to say, it would appear that you are covering most of the major food groups with that pile of oatmeal.... Fruits, veggies, proteins, fiber, maybe some dairy? Can't say that I would be brave enough to try but it certainly looks healthy. ;) That is an excellent tie, by the way. It looks similar to what my burgeoning library is starting to look like.

Carrying the wee Stag again today. I hope everyone is having a great Monday so far.

Got a bit of a surprise in the mail today. A surprise simply because I think the post from England made it here in record time!

An Ashley's Choice Lambsfoot all dressed up in some rather interesting Stag. This is a wonderful knife, very finely made, with terrific fit and finish and some excellent snap. The Stag is rather dramatically mismatched but I think it all the more endearing as both sides are just simply superb. It is almost as if I have two different knives!

Thank you, Jack, for this excellent knife. I suspect that this one is going to get carried A LOT!

Looks good, Dylan! I've always thought matched stag was overrated, anyways. :D

Seriously, you've got the best of both worlds there.

Nice start to the day Dylan :)

Latest photo of "RALF" taken out on our deck. Beautiful day today!

That IS fast Dylan - even within the time they PROMISE! You'd almost think they were using airmail or something! :D I just hope poor old dc50 dc50 isn't waiting two months again  I'm glad you like it my friend, spectacular pics, as always :)

It's like day and night, Dylan. You've got the fire-like stag on the pile side for the day, and the moonbeam white stag on the show side for the night.

Very poetic Joshua :)

I'm not sure whether or not Wright's understand the idea of matched stag as we collector's do. In the past there were specialist stag cutters, who may have done, perhaps. Today, we only have this vintage sambar because it was reclaimed from some long closed-down cutlery firm, where it was originally cut for steak knives or something. There is very little of it, and when it is gone, there won't be anymore. Previously, I've only been able to get hold of the odd knife with sambar from Wright's, and this must be their biggest run of sambar for a long time. Matching the stag to custom standards might not be possible because of the limited resources, but if it were, it would obviously add another significant stage of production, and I think Wright's would be justified in charging a great deal more than they have for these knives

I don't know if the choice of stag was Ashley's or not :D I doubt Wright's obtained it paired, more likely there was just a small box of the stuff to pick through. I might ask about how they go about choosing the stag when I go over next, but if it is paired in any way at all, I doubt they can afford to spend much time on it, and the old stag, which has been lying around for a few decades, probably looks different to the stag on the finished knives anyway, with the colour being muted at best

Very much hoping that we're going to be seeing some more of these knives arriving with their respective Guardians over the next few days, and I'm looking forward to seeing the individual character of them in the great photographs folks show here :)

Mine is going in my pocket again today :) Hope everyone's week is going well so far

Fantastic stag on your Ashley' Choice, Pàdruig Pàdruig . Congratulations! :) The covers on my wee lambsfoot are also mismatched in color, but nicely matched in thickness. I've got the sun on the mark side, and the moon on the pile side. :D:thumbsup:

Cool pics Rachel, I think you had the best of that particular run (deservedly so, since you inspired it! :D) :) I am hoping the covers of mine darken up a bit with use :) I am glad that they haven't cut the stag too thick, as I have seen knives with real chunky handles in the past, with much of the bark then ground off the stag. Makes for a good hand-filling knife, but certainly not a pretty one

And it’s a stellar knife so you’ve got the whole cosmos covered.

Thanks, guys! I don't know if I deserve it, but I do agree it's the "pick of the litter." :p

A package from England is not common at my house. Luckily, I had an appropriate knife handy for the circumstance.

I haven't spent much time around this forum as an effort to avoid spending money, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity for Guardian stag.

IMG_0845.JPG

I really like this knife. The frame is noticeably smaller in hand and pocket without giving up noticeable blade length...maybe 1/8" shorter. This particular knife also has the best action of any Lambsfoot I have had, and a lighter pull that seems appropriate with the smaller frame.

Very pleased with this one. Thanks for the time that you put into these, Jack.

Nice! What are the dimensions on this one?
