I'm afraid it's not as it appears Michael, years ago that building housed one of the Leeds University Library, but after they located to a larger location, the old library was eventually sold off, and turned into a pub. Sadly, rather than a place you might sit in a large leather armchair, reading a book, while sipping a pint, it's somewhere when rowdy students chug jugs of soda-heavy 'cocktails' or low quality lager, with sticky furniture, and loud music :( It's a real shame :( There's a large upstairs 'gig room', and I went there about 10 years ago, with a music promoter, to inspect the venue, as I was doing security, and it has a wide staircase, with the original antique glazed tiles on the walls, and they regularly get smashed and/or prised off 😠

That is a shame, Jack, although I have to say the name works even better as a student pub.

“Have you been studying?”

“Oh yeah, I spent all night at The Library…”

😉🤣

That's a cool-looking library Barrett  We have lost so many libraries here, but there are still a few of the old branch libraries open, including one about a mile up the road from me

There are certainly some interesting libraries here (like the one in the old brewery). Then there are some that could rival the ugliness of some of Sheffield’s mid-century buildings, like this Brutalist gem in Edina. 😳

Hope everyone is having a good day :) I went to town earlier, did some shopping, met a friend for lunch, but I'm worn out now! :D

You do look in need of a nap there, Jack. 😉

I have hardly been on the last couple of days. This weather is proving to be worthy oponnent to my happiness 🤣 😂. Over the last 7 days it has been almost 90 degrees with wildfires popping up everywhere to today with 13 inches of snow and cold. If I missed any questions or responses, I apologize. Got the '19 in the pocket today. Have a great day everyone.

13 inches?! Y’all got it a lot worst over there than we did. We had maybe 4 or 5 inches yesterday, but it’s almost all melted already.

Alright, here is a rant for the day, good and bad. Just got home from the gym and catching up on the Guardians and other threads while i'm having a coffee. And here is the really good, the " Guardians of the Lambsfoot " is a civil and great place to connect with like minded knife collectors and users. And here is the bad, went to the 2023 Oregon Knife show thread to see any photos that may have been posted. Has it turned into a bunfight, the amount of sniping going on, how you can turn a thread about attending and posting photos of a knife show into what could be deemed unpleasant at best is beyond me. End of rant. 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯 Thought i had better post a photo of a piece of cutlery to at least look like i'm trying to stay on track. 🤣🤣🤣;). Have a good evening everyone, allowing for the time difference.🤠.

Looks great Dwight, I’m having some Woodford Double Oaked tonight. 😎👍

Carried this one again today, love how the patina is developing, and I think it’s chosen it’s slip. 😉👍

Yes, I notice 'The Office' is quite a popular name for bars ;)

That is actually very similar to a 70's build Bulgarian car-park I saw in a video I was watching about my forthcoming holiday destination! :D I have to say, it's so bad, it looks kind of cool :D You never saw the Town Hall Extension in Sheffield, which was known locally as 'The Egg-Box'! :D

Good morning Guardians, I hope you all wake up to some better weather today! It looks like quite a nice day here, and I plan on heading out shortly, I just need to run a few errands, and I'll probably call in at Charlie's ;) I haven't carried my AC for a while, so thought I'd give it a whirl today :D Have a great day Guardians

Beautiful stag Jack my friend, I apologise for my absence - the House seems to be controlling my World these days getting projects done for now- Knives still number one in my life- but priorities!
Had a edc swap around the other day, snagged my Hartshead and will get a photo up soon.

Awesome Thread! 😍

Thanks Duncan, it's great to see you here mate 😊 I hope that things have calmed down for you since earlier in the year, and that you and Sue are well and truly settled in now. Hopefully, you'll have all the extra jobs done soon. Look forward to seeing your Hartshead Barlow 😎👍
Glad you can get out and about with your fine stag AC Jack.

That is surprising. I guess I'll stay away from there unless I'm feeling sociological/anthropological.

There was or is a building in Hong Kong with bad feng shui, with round windows all over. They called it the house of a thousand [guess]-holes.

That must have been a terrible feeling Bill! I'm glad it turned up :) Many years ago, I was house-sitting for some friends, and feeding their cat, when my pocketknife went missing. I spent the whole day searching for it, found all sorts of things down the back of their sofa, but not my knife! To cut a long story short, their cat had a magnetic collar to open the cat-flap, and it had picked up my knife, and carried it outside!

Yes, it was about 8.00pm on a summer's evening, in 1991, and I had been looking for my knife all day. I had been cooking corn fritters and jambalaya in the kitchen, using recipes from a Louisiana cook book, and glancing out of the kitchen window, I saw the cat, acting strangely, on the small patch of lawn outside the window. It was actually trying to get something off its collar, and when I saw it, even though I wasn't aware of the magnet, or the cat-flap, I immediately realised what had happened. It's strange that while I can remember all the other details quite clearly, I'm struggling to recall precisely which pocket knife it was, though I didn't have many back then! :D It's incredible that it hadn't been lost, and who would ever think of a cat carrying off their pocket knife?! o_O
Don't kid yourself, Jack! That cat had it planned the whole time! :D I bet he got a treat from you after he relinquished your knife!

LOL! :D I can only think of one building in Leeds with round windows, and there aren't many of them! :D ;) Always nice to see your Ebony '18 Jer

I can't work out what that icon is Rachel, I've even had a magnifying glass up to my screen! :D

You might be right there Gary :D It's amazing the knife wasn't lost! I was watching a movie last night, where the cops are trying to find a murder weapon, which appears to have disappeared, and if it didn't sound so preposterous, my first thought might have been, 'The cat dunnit!' 🤣

Apart from the terrible speed of my internet connection, I'm having good day here in Yorkshire, the sun is shining, and after going round to my neighbours, I walked down to Charlie's for a coffee, and then hopped on a bus to town. The cherry blossoms are out, and I took a couple of photos of the trees opposite the bus-stop outside The Northern School of Contemporary Dance :) The second one shows the main road, and the view into town, about a mile from where I live. At one time, the whole road was lined with those sort of shops, almost all Jewish-owned. The skyline has changed massively, just in the past couple of years, with scores of high building being built in the city centre, primarily for student accommodation.

I had quite a bit to do in town, but got everything I needed, including a bottle of Frank's No1 Red Hot Sauce, as recommended by cudgee cudgee , and some elusive Jerusalem Artichokes for Hisham, proprietor of Charlie's Cafe :) I decided to have a spicy Banh Mi sandwich for lunch :)

TJ0IN2T.jpg

I headed back to Charlie's, to gift Hisham the prized artichokes, which he adores, but was previously unable to obtain, then walked back up the hill to Grumble Towers, stopping only to have a chat with my postman :)

Just added a new member to my Lambsfoot family, an Albers in Ringed Gidgee.

Congratulations Jeff, terrific trio there, and a great pic :)
It's supposed to be a "thinking" face. He looks a bit peeved though; I was going for a more "bemused pondering"
🤔
LOL! :D Thanks Rachel, those new icons are terrible aren't they?! Now I think on, I can remember you explaining how to make them larger :)
