WowWe’re starting to get settled here in Idaho. In the midst of moving I did manage to get a Father’s Day gift ordered—something very special this year. It didn’t arrive until today because I had to squeeze into a busy schedule, but I’m happy to say I’ve got my first Rhidian and it is a gorgeous lambsfoot with incredible jigging. Check it out:

That building has been through the ringer!!!!! Shame that it turned out to be office buildings. It was nice to have a midweek beano yesterday!I can't remember the last time I did that, and both Al and I had a great time
I took a few pics, please excuse their poor quality!
After leaving Charlie's, I headed into town, intending to call at the bank, before going for lunch. However, my passage was blocked by a road closure. Many Yorkshire towns have a Kirkgate, the street leading to the church, and they are often the oldest. That is certainly the case in Leeds, and there are buildings there, which are the oldest in the city centre. A lot of money has been spent gentrifying the old street over the past decade, but this led to rents rising, and the undeveloped old buildings at the bottom of the street have been empty for several years now. This leaves the owners still having to pay Council Tax on the properties, but with difficulty selling them because of their status as preserved historic buildings. The previous evening, there had been a fire on the first floor of the buildings, and despite a speedy intervention by the fire brigade, the roof had been lost, and considerable damage caused. They are still assessing the structural damage, which could even result in demolition. I'm not sure how a fire could have started accidentally in a long boarded-up building, on a wet day, but I dare say that there will be an investigation. Some years ago, a building at the top of the street was mysteriously set on fire, and the cause turned out to be arson, and was an 'insurance job' by the owner. I remember taking photos as it burned, and really hope that these much older buildings can be saved.

After having a chat with the police officer helping secure the area, I decided to go for lunch in the market, and being as it was the 4th of July, I thought I better have a hotdog![]()

After my lunch, I walked through the city centre to my other bank, having to pass through one of the modern shopping precincts that I usually prefer to avoid.

I rather liked Leeds Library's 'Word of the Day', and will try to remember to use it at some point!

Since I was early to meet Al, I thought I'd take some photos of City Square, which I haven't visited in a while. It is usually attractive, but unfortunately, the whole area, between there and the train station is being renovated. I'm not sure what is happening to The Black Prince, he appears to have been subject to some sort of art installation

This building has been recently renovated. Originally built as a cinema in the 1920's, it later became a notorious nightclub. After bad publicity, including the involvement of several Leeds United footballers, in a racially-motivated attack, the nightclub closed. Eventually, the building was renovated, at great expense, and I was actually meeting a friend outside the train station on the very day it was due to open, in 2014, when a huge fire broke out, which entirely destroyed the historic interior, along with the roof. The cause was arson. Work on the building was only completed relatively recently, but it is now a mere office building.

By the time, I had negotiated the various works barriers, and crossed the road, it was nearly time for Al's train, (which is the quickest way to get into the centre from the suburb where he lives).
![]()
Because of the road works, the buses from outside the station had been re-routed, so we had to wander around a bit, but eventually, we were headed to Kirkstall, and the start of our pub-crawl![]()
My kids are now pyromaniacs!!!! Glad you had a great time, Bill.Good morning Guardians. Hope that if you live in the USA you had a great 4th. Where else in the world could a country celebrate their independence by blowing up a small piece of it?My wife and I went to a friend's annual party and had a great time. There was so many fireworks going off in our area it was unbelievable and fun too!

I feel a little tipsy following alongA few doors down is Dave's Pies & Ale, which I visited last week, and this was our next destination. I suspect the pie part of the name might have been a way of getting a drinks license, because the selection is very small, and rather disappointing, and on this occasion, Dave had done a lousy job of baking his pies, which were not properly cooked underneath. I got the lass behind the bar to stick mine in the oven for 10 minutes, but was very unimpressed

We headed on to the Kirkstall Brewery itself, a modern building, but nicely decorated
We had intended to finish our pub-crawl here, but Al suggested a final pint, at a decent pub he knew of, not too far away. Unfortunately, the pub, The Highland, surrounded, and cut-off by tall blocks of student accommodation, had recently closed

We climbed a steep flight of steps to the road beyond, where there is a pub called the Fox and Newt.
Looks to be a good spot to watch from. An awesome lamb as always, Daniel.pics from last night as we sat in the backyard waiting to watch the fireworks View attachment 2241728View attachment 2241729

Great to hear from you, John. Take care my friend.Good Morning Guardians, hope you're all doing well.
Just popping in to check out all the beautiful Lambsfoot photography.
The past few months I've been carrying nothing but Lambsfoot and Sodbuster knives.
The rest of my collection is just collecting dust on the shelves. Guess I like the traditional working patterns most.
Very nice, Ed. Gifts are always more special in my book.Thought I'd post a pic of this Lambfoot I received as a gift from Dan @sf fanatic last October. I posted a picture of it then but think it's worthy of another picture and mention.

Wholesome and Heart warming post Barrett !This morning started off with thunderstorms, but it stopped raining by noon, and remained overcast and somewhat cool (if a bit humid) the rest of the day. We took the girls to the Chanhassen, MN 4th of July parade, which was fun.

If it looks like it got suddenly smoggy in these last couple parade pics, it’s because I accidentally smudged the camera lens on my phone.

I figured I’d go American-made for my Lambsfoot today.

After the parade we headed home to relax and grab a bite to eat. Now we’re waiting to watch some fireworks.
