Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Absolutely. I really like the first or one of the first locations down in Corpus Christi along the bay.

Prester John Prester John Vince may know if it’s the original
The one on Shoreline was not built until the late '90s, I believe. It's the biggest one in the world! Of course, most Whataburgers are in Texas. The first one was located on Ayers Street across the street from Del Mar Junior College in 1950, ten years before I was born. Not there anymore, but there is one nearby. Without looking it up, there are probably 20 or so Whataburgers in Corpus Christi, and I have eaten at each one. Nolan Ryan used to do commercials for them. Mel Tillis too. Great burger, and they put plenty of mustard on it, unlike Burger King.

Yep, all that was part of my youth! Don't remember Mel Tillis much, pretty vague but, Nolan Ryan was a solid hit for myself.

Regarding Burger King, I am an EXTRA mustard, pickles, and onion with a DELETE the mayo and ketchup sort of guy.

When we used to travel between Northwest Arkansas and Little Rock, we’d sometimes stop in Russellville and eat at Feltner’s Whatta-Burger, not to be confused with the Whataburger chain from Texas. 😉

I'm afraid it isn't that exciting David, but slightly convoluted, which is why I didn't go into it earlier! :D Tool Man has an obsessive interest in my cosh collection, (far more than myself! :D), and on a weekly basis, he will discuss starting his own, at great length, and how he's going to get his tailor to add special pockets to his Teddy Boy suits (Drapes), etc. This has gone on for many years, but Tool Man is too tight-fisted to acquire one! :D The conversation will then progress to how easily he might make one, at which I generally point out that, while he might me able to cobble one together, and while it might have the same effectiveness, it will not have the aesthetics of a beautifully-made flat sap, for example. And since he only wants it for the purposes of posing, and pretending to be tough, aesthetics are important ;)

qfBf2fC.jpg

As you must have noticed, Tool Man has acquired a rather motley collection of friends and associates over the years. Schenke, is certainly not the oddest, but he is not without his eccentricities. I actually know him independently of Tool Man, as we used to frequent the same bar at one time, and have some other mutual friends. He's very clever at making things, in fact I once sent @mrknife a ring he had made.

EIRksRU.jpg

A few months ago, Schenke made some embossed leather key-rings for Boring Ray, Tool-Man's fellow Ted, who has the stall next door. They have Teddy Boy themes, which rather limits their appeal to a dwindling group of crusty old men, only a few of whom visit the market, and since, (being old Yorkshire men), they are tight-fisted, and Ray's prices are always stupidly high, they haven't sold well, despite the effort put in on Schenke's part  One of Schenke's recent visits to the market coincided with one of Tool Man's extended diatribes about his planned cosh acquisition, and inevitably, Tool Man eventually had a light-bulb moment: "Hey, I bet you could make these Schen!"

Tool Man insisted in involving me in this, not least since his actual knowledge of the subject, is entirely lacking. So I referred Schenke to the website of MY 'tailor', and agreed, if Tool Man rang me up to remind me, (which of course he didn't), to draw round a couple of examples, so that Schenke had the size.

When I arrived at the market yesterday, Boring Ray told me that Schenke had made me something, showing me their conversation, and photos of a flat sap on Facebook. I had to make it clear to both Ray and Tool Man that the manufactured article was not ordered by me, since I have no need of such a replication. Tool Man, worried his pie budget might be wiped out, was prevaricating. When Schenke arrived, he produced the goods, which were well made. It looked like I was going to be paying for the experiment, until Tool Man found out how little Schenke was asking, a mere £10, which is a tiny percentage of my past investment in such articles. I told him this was far too cheap, and to be fair to Tool Man, he did stump up £15 from his moth-riddled wallet

yMUXagj.jpg

Tool Man, excited by his new acquisition, then got giddy, and began demanding Schenke make more, and he would sell them to his Teddy Boy friends, at the various events he attends. With '£' signs flashing in front of his eyes, he quickly conjured up ever more fanciful ideas about how they might be stamped, (and thus made even less saleable). Considering it has taken him 10 years to stump up £15, he ought to suspect that that few of his curmudgeonly old friends are going to want to pay a larger amount for what is effectively a novelty item, with questionable legality. I will be sure to keep everyone posted
Enjoyed your explanation of Tool Man and the flat sap fixation. Your a good story teller Jack. I use to have some flat saps but don't any more.
Good morning Guardians, I have a load of parcels coming today, so have to wait in until they arrive. Hoping I can get out to the shops and post office later, as I need to mail mitch13 mitch13 's giveaway Lambsfoot, and I also need to buy some provisions for the weekend. How is everyone doing? I hope you've made it through the week OK, and that you're looking forward to the weekend. I decided to treat my knife pocket to some WABOOM! :D Have a good day Guardians :)

I would love to join you Jack😉...but pictures will have to suffice. Always nice to have a trip like that to look forward to.
A smart move Jack, my daughter will be invading England for a few years around that time.😃
LOL! :D Is your daughter coming over for long Bob? I hope she has a happy stay, but the country is in meltdown at the moment, she may be shocked  If I can help in any way, by explaining our strange language and customs, for example, or with anything else, please let me know my friend :)

Thanks Jack. Great to hear you have a winter trip planned!
Thanks Pete, I'm off at Christmas again :)

Evening Guardians! 19 has been with me today.

Cool background to your '19 buddy :)

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is doing OK, and that you have something to look forward to this weekend. Brother Tony, who I was supposed to be meeting for a drink today, has to work, which is one of the reasons I went out last night. The other was the awful weather we had here, all that rain in July had me hankering for some margaritas! :D Mexican restaurants aren't too common here, but there's a small one about a mile from where I live, and I used to eat there regularly. I don't know how the food compares, but the staff were all Mexican, and it was a bit of a centre for local Latin Americans. Unfortunately, it doesn't have an outdoor dining area, so suffered during the pandemic, and was closed for a while. I wasn't going to bother booking, as I wanted to eat early, but I'm glad I did, as they were turning folks away. First though, I went for a couple of pints at a small bar nearby. I know the two guys who own this place, and it was the second bar they opened. Not much more than 15 years ago, they were both doing shifts behind their first bar, in the city centre. Now they own a dozen bars, two breweries, and heaven knows what else!

After sipping my way through a couple of pints, I headed to the Mexican place, and ordered my first Tommy's Margarita :) The menu was very different to the one I remember, and I wonder if it has changed hands. The kitchen staff were speaking Spanish, but the manager was Indian. I ordered some nachos, but the portion was larger than in the past, and it probably wasn't the best starter, particularly as I'd also ordered some loaded fries.

Are tacos always that small? I really don't know, but they were filling anyway, and after several more margaritas, I decided to skip dessert, and get a taxi home. Going out cost me £75, but it was a nice treat. Probably order different food if I go to that Mexican place again

Back to today, and I need to go into town to buy some groceries, but I think I'll call in at Charlie's for a coffee first ;) Have a great day Guardians :)

Hartshead Barlow in my pocket

It appears you did very well finding food and substance yesterday Jack. My experience with tacos varies by restaurants.

My daughter's papers are finalized and expects to be in England for a few years. You are very kind in your offer to help Jack. I passed the youtube vignette on to her. It's always good to have friends watching our backs.🫡
Alex's stay should be a tad easier compared to Columbia,South East Asia, etc. Her occupation is agent/ lawyer for our drug enforcement administration.

I was just talking to the nice young lady in Charlie's, who was born in Costa Rica, and has lived in Mexico, and it seems they got the size of the tacos right at least! 😁

I wish things were better here for your daughter, I am somewhat ashamed of the state of my country at the moment ☹️ Oh wow, well hopefully her stay will be much more pleasant by comparison, and we could certainly use her experience 👍 As you know, I enjoy languages, but I'm afraid that I probably know less about the lexicon of drug users here than your daughter. The same goes for contemporary London criminal slang, but I do know some classic old words and phrases, which are often hundreds of years old, and sometimes with very funny etymology 😁👍
I don't mind the heat, but the humidity is a killer here!View attachment 2252441
I heard that some States are experiencing searing temperatures at the moment, so I hope everyone has access to shade, and plenty of water. And hopefully AC! That's a handsome knife my friend 👍

Thank you Jack.
There is definitely no need for shame compared to many of our cities. I believe they opened the asylum doors to let the inmates run them.

I have been meaning to get a new chair for my desk recently, and when I saw a proper Bond Villain chair on sale recently, I thought I'd bite the bullet. The chair arrived yesterday, and wrestling it up the stairs wasn't much fun with a bad back, it weighs more than my sofa, and is certainly the heaviest thing I've lifted since I've been an old man! The last time I bought a chair of this type online, it took me 10 minutes to assemble, but with this one I have to build it virtually from scratch. Me and my Hartshead Barlow spent half an hour on it this morning. When folks say they don't use their knives, or even don't carry one, I just don't know how they go on. If it wasn't for my Barlow, I couldn't have even got started, and it's helped me every step of the way. Since I had to go out, I took out the huge cardboard box the chair had shipped in, and took it outside for my Hartshead Barlow to cut up for disposal. Then we went for a coffee, and being as the lad had worked so hard, I thought I'd shell out for a blueberry muffin ;)

As I left Charlie's, it started raining, and by the time I got into town, it was coming down heavily. First thing I needed to do was go to the post office to mail mitch13 mitch13 's giveaway prize, but unfortunately I got some idiot behind the counter, who told me that I couldn't put a "weapon" in the post. Now, of course, you can put a pocket-knife in the mail, and that's quite clear if you bother to read the post office's own rules, but unfortunately, they have used a knife for their 'no weapons' symbol! It's not the first time I've had this happen, but I usually use the self-service machines so I don't have to deal with stupid people. However, changes in their rules means that you have to take all overseas packages to the counter. I'll just have to go to a different post office, and hope I get someone with some intelligence next time

Reckon, I'm going to be messing around with that chair for the rest of the day! o_O
