Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Yeah wow! Those are some perfectly selected pieces of wood. Is that ebony? I have a piece of macasar ebony that doesn't come close to the nice pattern on the knife but it is the same colors. Gorgeous. I love the bolsters as well.

Happy Tewsday all !

Have a TEW in my pocket 👍

That will be fine metal dust from the factory. I had no idea about it till i started cleaning a few knives from the factory when i received them. The covers were nearly a new colour after getting all the grime and dust off them. I has some stag that changed colour completely after a good clean from the factory.
Swarf!
Thanks, that makes sense about the fine metal dust. Most of the black washed out and left behind lighter brown coloring.

There was a lot of funk inside the knife as well, even before I started fiddling with it. I guess that goes everywhere! Definitely thought it was part of the bone and it was a little shocking after drying everything off!
The first thing to do with any A. Wright knife is give the joint a good flush out. Oil the joint, work the blade, and then blow it out with canned air. Repeat, until all the gunk is out, and the blown out oil is clear
Very interesting stuff, this stag bone.
Stag Bone or Bone Stag are older terms for Jigged Bone. You have 'Genuine Stag'

You're an incredible photographer Dwight! Stunning shot of your two '19s, it's great to see them together like that :)

Good morning Guardians, hope everyone is keeping well, and that your week is going OK. It's just stopped raining here, and we currently have a little sunshine, but we had better weather in March! 😖 I hope summer isn't going to be a complete wash-out here  Got some work to do again this morning, but I need to go into town later, so I might get a chance to call in at Charlie's ;) Have a good day Guardians

After calling in at Charlie's, I headed into town, where I had a few things to do. It was raining by the time I got there though, so I decided to have a light lunch in the market. I wasn't very hungry, and didn't think I could eat a full meal at the Tunisian stall, so I ordered some mint tea, and one of their manakish. They list it as 'Tunisian pizza', but apart from the shape, and the dough, it doesn't have much in common with pizza :D

I bought some bread, and then headed off towards the bank, and then the supermarket, with the rain failing to stop :(

Thanks. I think it’s rosewood but I’m not certain. Bad memory.

Thank you for the education sir. Found a description of what the various kinds of stag are and such after your reply and it is interesting.

Thanks for the reply! Nice ones.

It's actually Desert Ironwood
Very cool! I was a off pretty far, geographically speaking. Nothing like some beautiful wood.

There are many different types of stag. I suspect the stag on your own knife may have been supplied by the dealer, since, in recent years, Wright's have had difficulty getting hold of good quality stag, in large part because of the Indian Government's ban on the export of Sambar (nobody seems to understand the reason for this). Here is a photo of a piece of vintage Sambar stag (Left), compared to a piece of Pere David stag, which Wright's were using a few years ago. The Sambar is harder, denser, stronger, and not pithy like the Pere David. It also has much more attractive bark

Wright's have been using Indonesian Rosewood for at least a decade. Prior to that, they used African Rosewood, which I used for a short-run SFO, it's generally darker than the Indonesian. The Ironwood was sourced in the USA. The knife is the 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot SFO

Wow, it sure is! What a difference.thabks for sharing that photo.

Indian Government's ban on the export of Sambar
That is something... maybe poaching. Strange though for deer.

Sounds like there is an opportunity to set up a Sambar farm, somewhere.

It was actually my friend H herder who had the idea to take the pic, when we were at the factory, some years ago, when it had different ownership

I've never heard anyone put forward a reason, it's a mystery to almost everyone it seems.

The Sheffield cutlers could import it from Australia, for example, but that would involve some foresight, and expenditure

Thanks Jack. Every 24 hrs my memory is erased.
LOL! :D It seems like it's every 5 minutes with me Dwight!

I did think about going to a fancy-dress party dressed as the main character from Memento (cheap costume), but his tattoos would be replaced with fake ones reading things like, "Did you turn the heating off?", "Why did I go in the kitchen?", "Have you paid the electric bill?", etc :D ;)

Was looking to pickup a small carbon douk douk with a sheepsfoot blade, figured I'd ask here as all I can find from the usual venders are clip points. Any suggestions?
I'm not aware of Douk Douk ever having used a Lambsfoot blade. Please read post 1 of this thread though
