Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good day Guardians!

I'm new to the club, this is my first lambsfoot knife, fresh out of the box. Not easy to find in France (unsurprisingly), so I tested the waters of ordering through a British website, they only had this model in stock. For less than 20 bucks it's a good fit & finish, firm spring action (not a nailbreaker this one, but the barlow I ordered with, is much harder), super thin with a fine edge.

Those are good entry-level knives that work well in general IMHO since you aren't afraid to use them in the yard, garage, etc.

If the pattern works for you, I would reach out to Michael May from Sheffield. So far, my interactions with him have gone really well. Depending on options, his knives are about twice the cost of an entry-level A Wright model.

The process and cost of getting one of his knives to me in the USA is less than many packages I send within the USA! I bet he could hook you up with a really awesome lambsfoot shipped to France for a price that would surprise you.

Good morning Guardians. Been in France for the last two weeks. Got home and tested positive for Covid. Feel crappy and meeting with the Dr. Wish me luck.

Wish you all the best. I'm vaccinated and while I didn't get tested, had a mild case of the "flu" which passed quickly with no medical intervention, just some beer, hot tea, and a little Gatorade (think Electrolytes and related minerals) along the way. Three days later, I was good as new with no lingering effects.

Here in Texas, besides Iranian military-aged men and people on the TERROR WATCH LIST coming across the border for free healthcare, housing, and direct cash benefits, we are seeing a real rise in Tuberculosis!

Hopefully, this is a minor setback on your way to Lambsfoot bliss!

Oh no! Hope you had a great time in France Bill, and that you're soon on the mend
Good morning and Happy Friday Guardians !

Carrying '19 today 👍

Fabulous photo my friend :)
This is a bit big to throw in the front pocket and gets lost in the side pocket. Typically i'd add a lanyard for the side pocket to dig the knife out easily but there isn't a way to do that here without major surgery.

I think this was a pretty good solution. Quick and freehand but if it works well I'll make a better one. Now it can be dropped right into the side pocket and removed easily.

Another week of pears, oranges and tomatoes and this blade will be seasoned up nicely! Lucky draw with the fruit this week, it's very good!

Have a good day everyone.
You too Rick, have a good one :)
Have fun Jack but not too much ! 😉
Not much chance of that with Chapel Allerton prices! :D ;)

"Pre-beer coffee" is the best kind!
DEfinitely! :D
Happy Friday everyone, I’m heading into a week long vacation (hoping it recharges my brain).
Have a great time Gus :)

:) Pretty happy with my emails with Michael so, a bit excited about wrapping up things and getting an order submitted and confirmed! My enthusiasm level is pretty high at the moment.

Confirmed he has Rams Horn for the scales. After looking at a lot of pretty wood on various Lamgsfoot knives in this thread, it has me questioning whether I should consider some nice wood.

Now to confirm the steel options! If he can get 14C28N and heat treat it at a reasonable cost, that is probably the way things will go! If not, it is either AEB-L or SF100 with a strong bias against AEB-L due to a bad prior experience with another knife and a bad heat treat.

On a related note, I have retrieved my A Wright Lambsfoot and thrown it in my pocket. If I can find some WD-40, honing oil, or some other appropriate oil, I will try some of the things I have read about trying to flush grit out of the action so it isn't a two-hand nail breaker to open.

I had a pleasant afternoon out with Nobber Al, but while it was an enjoyable time, I can't say it was a great pub crawl. We were headed to a Leeds suburb, close to where I live, but as I arrived at the bar where we were meeting - Further North - I discovered that they had changed their opening time from 12 to 1pm. I rang Al, to let him know, and said I would meet him at The Queen's Arms further out of town. I walked on to the Queen's Arms, only to find it closed for refurbishment, so I rang Al again, and told him I'd meet him at another pub, half a mile away,

The Regent used to be a darts and dominoes pub. Not so much of either of those, but still not a bad pub, in an area, where there are mainly bars.

They had one of my favourite Leeds beers on, Northern Monk Virtuous, so we grabbed a couple of pints :)

After that, I grabbed a sausage roll, from a local bakery, and we walked back up the hill to Further North, and ordered a couple of pints of bitter :)

As we were leaving, I noticed a poster for a tap-takeover by the small Zapato brewery, which is run by a friend of mine, Matt. I asked the barman if Matt would be there, and was told he was away on holiday. By coincidence, there was a text on my phone, from Alice, Matt's wife, asking if I could attend the event, as Matt would love to see me!

Al and I walked back down the hill, and went to a bar called The Woods. I ordered a pint of Kirkstall Brewery's Virtuous, another favourite, while Al opted for a different beer, which he didn't like.

We left The Woods, heading for the Black Sheep Brewery, which was closed for refurbishment, as was the Nag's Head. What was going on?! Al, who clearly doesn't understand the idea of a linear pub crawl, wanted to go back to The Regent, because we had had a good pint there. Maybe consider what you order Al! :p

Back at The Regent, we were greeted by loud, raucous singing, chanting, and shouting, from within! Perhaps a bunch of football hooligans we thought, but no, it was actually a large group of primary school teachers, who had just finished for the summer vacation, and were busy getting drunk! We got 2 more pints, and drank them amidst the carnage!

It was now after 4.30pm, and I was still petitioning for lunch, so after leaving The Regent, we headed to Sami's, a local Algerian restaurant, only to find that closed for refurbishment too! 🤨

We ordered food back at The Woods, but the pasta dish we ordered was less than mediocre, and very overpriced. I thought I was a moaning old sod, but Al had me beat! We had another couple of pints :)

We were supposed to be heading to The Three Hulats, where I was last night, and possibly a couple of other bars, but Al had had enough, and bailed out. To be fair, he has to work tomorrow ;)

Is Michael May no longer simply buying his parts - blades, springs, etc - from Wright's, pre-stamped and heat-treated? If not, that's quite a dramatic change. Nice that you found your Rosewood Lamb :) Definitely, give the joint a flush. Use oil rather than WD-40 I'd say, you don't need a lot. I hope it makes a difference, but if not, there are other things you can do. However, it's worth taking it slowly

Sounds like fun. But when you say "two more pints", do you mean per person?

I can't say what he does or does not get from Wright's but, I am pretty sure at least the blade is now a Michael May thing though, he could be starting from blanks stamped by someone like Wright's.

I am unsure what stainless Wright uses, if any, but the two "standard" stainless options from Michael are SF100 (Sheffield-based) and AEB-L. I know he is also making other slip-joint models for significant money that are NOT on his website so, the question of SOLE AUTHORSHIP is an open question but, it looks like he is headed in that general direction with his more premium multi-blade slip joints.

For something about twice the cost of an A Wright lambfoot base model, I think there is a lot of value there for the money spent. That is not meant to slight A Wright's offerings but, they seem to be a bit rough to me for the cost. Personally, I think if A Wright put another 25%~50% into their knife's cost and used that for more "spit and polish", I think they would appeal a lot more to someone like myself that lives on a different continent and doesn't raise sheep for a primary occupation.

Another member here in this thread has also turned me onto K'roo Knives from South Africa! Those are at a CRK Sebenza level price so, not for the faint of heart in the lambfoot community! I see one of those possibly in a year or two after I get my Michael May lambfoot and use it enough to be comfortable with spending that much on a knife so it won't end up in a box buried in a closet somewhere like that old rough A Wright posted above.

Definitely Bob! :D I was on a steam train, which serves beer hand-pumped from the cask, a few years ago. We bought day tickets, intending to get off the train at various points, but it was raining outside, and the beer was good, so we just stayed on the train all afternoon :D

I would have loved to be with you there on that Train Jack - I love the big Steam Trains! kinda like Beer too 🤣
