Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I know exactly the one you mean Barrett :) I have a cheapo one under my sink, which has sanding sealer in it, but I've just noticed it has leaked through the bottom joint (not present on the genuine ones)

It’s pretty cool how they press those Sigg bottles out of an aluminum puck.

Aw, what a great pic Barrett :) I have bought canteens for some of my friends' kids

Thanks, Jack.

Thank you my friend  I was just getting something to eat earlier, when my doorbell rang, and it was Raymond The Feckless. I was surprised to learn that he has decided to accompany his mother, but couldn't help noticing that he was dressed head to toe in brand new black clothes, including a new coat. Knowing the kind of relationship he has with his ageing mother, I suspect he may have been 'sponsored'! :D At least he'll keep an eye on her, hopefully ;)

Well hopefully you’re at least partly off the hook! 😁

Same here, but sadly it's too small for a British pint! 😭

Yes, I definitely prefer your size pints. 😁

I'm struggling to find photos of my canteens, undoubtedly because I have too many photos! :D Here is one with my Keith Titanium canteen in the background :)

I also found this kidney-shaped Sigg model, based on an old Swiss Army design. It perfectly holds a bottle of wine ;)

Here's one of my KK food flasks - fresh strawberries and strawberry ice-cream on a scorching hot day! 😋 😁

rhPkmqg.jpg

I also remembered seeing KK-made growlers at Yorkshire's Magic Rock brewery, and meaning to get one :D £30 for the 4 pint model! :) I haven't used a growler in decades, but they DO look cool! :D

Edit - No longer made by Klean Kanteen :(

Nice pics, Jack. That Sigg with the nesting cup is pretty cool. We’ll get a growler occasionally from one of the local breweries. I’ve seen various insulated ones, but we usually just use the glass ones.

When I taught, all 6th graders had to spend a week at a state owned camp in the mountainous woods.
They were exposed to everything. They went mumbling but came back very happy.

We did something like that in 5th or 6th grade, at a place called the Ozark Natural Science Center. Eleanor’s school has a similar thing as well in fourth grade (for which we get pressured every year around this time to do fundraising, starting in kindergarten).

Earlier today I headed over to downtown Hopkins, MN to have a look around a couple antique shops there. (I had also wanted to look in used/vintage furniture store that used to be there for a flat file cabinet for knife storage, but apparently the place closed.) I didn’t find much of interest — there were no good knives to be had — but I picked up a couple old postcards and a bottle opener (not that I needed another).

I thought this postcard from Texarkana was particularly interesting and somewhat amusing. 😁

Disappointingly, the postmark is from Linden, Texas (about 40 miles from Texarkana) rather than the more interesting Texarkana, Ark.-Tex. postmark.

I only glanced at the message on the postcard while in the store, and was amused when I read the last line later at home.

Dear Audri,

We are in Texarkana, about 175 mi from Crockett. We just went over what they call the Red River, but it certainly doesn’t fit its name. We keep passing ice cold watermelon signs but we don’t have a knife.

Nora

😁

I spotted this De Tomaso Pantera parked on the street. I had to stop and take a few pics to send to my father-in-law, who has the same car.

Stay safe, Jack Black Jack Black !

I think I'd add a canister of bear spray, at least one slingshot, some water balloons, a cattle prod, and an air horn.

I've been to events like that. No one who has would ever say they wish they'd been less prepared. 🤣

Or...drop the old gal off at the door so she doesn't have to walk far, tell her your going to park the car...then run away View attachment 2327489
Thanks for the helpful advice guys! 😁👍
Cool photo Mitch 😎👍

Yeah, I'm going to have to see if I can find a video 😎 I remember getting a dual-walled stainless steel insulated mug about a decade before they were commonly available, and it cost a lot of money, even more than they cost 40 years later (I still have it though). The same was true of my first dual-walled stainless steel flask. Then suddenly, they were all over the place, lighter in weight, and relatively inexpensive. I figured that there must have been some leap of technology to allow that, but have never actually researched it 👍
Well hopefully you’re at least partly off the hook! 😁
There is that! 😁👍
Yes, I definitely prefer your size pints. 😁
Me too mate! 😁👍

(That's the beer I used to brew in 1979! 🤣)

Thanks Barrett 🙂 Plastic 4 pint growlers were briefly popular here, when canned beer wasn't very good. I used to use them to take my home-brew to parties! 😁 👍

I can remember, about 1982, filling them up in my parents' cellar, to go to a party, in the early hours of the morning, after a good session in the pub. There was me and my mate, and our girlfriends, all trying to be quiet, half-drunk. Fortunately, my parents slept like logs, as I didn't even live with them at the time (just had a couple of barrels of home-brewed beer there)!! 🤣

The knife-related content of the postcard's message more than makes up for the less-desirable post mark - in my mind at least!

Looks like an eventful trip downtown!

As a young kid, any sports car that was swoopy and low slung was a Lamborghini as far as I was concerned. I remember my dad trying to explain the difference between Panteras, DeLoreans, MGs (he had one of those), Jaguars, Ferraris, etc - and I, just thinking he must be very confused. They were very clearly all Lamborghinis. 🤣

I was admiring a bright yellow Lamborghini the other day - belongs to my dentist! 🙄😁 My sister had an MG 👍

Shiver me timbers! (Is it still pirate day?)
At an incredibly boring legal seminar out of town, but gonna enjoy a half pint or so of scotch tonight. Don't know the percentage of a schooner, but math is not my forte.

Sorry for the confusion Vince, it's TODAY, my phone was giving me notice! 🙄😁 Not sure how it'll go down at Frank's funeral! 😱 Enjoy ya grog me heartie, fine piece o' steel you be brandishin'! ☠️👍

Ahharrrr shipmates! I slept worse than a fat pirate in a life-boat, but I be up at dawn for me trip to the Caribbean, aboard the good ship Loopy! Like that knave Raymond, I'll be clad in black, to match me black heart (and the rings under me eyes)! Arrghh! The sun might come out later. Meanwhile, an extra from yesterday.

In September 2023, The Yorkshire Party, a regional political party in the UK, recognized International Talk Like a Pirate Day to highlight issues faced by coastal communities, including erosion and pollution.

But it was yesterday! I don't know how we missed it, but I'm happy we did.:D

Good morning Guardians. Just got back from our vacation in New England. Toured Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island. We went everywhere and beyond. Couldn't get wifi in some locations. Good weather too! Man o man do I need to catch up on the porch. Any way we have a wonderful morning here at home and an invigorating stroll this morning. Will have my HHB with me later on today. Will post some photos of our vacation later.

Welcome back Bill. Glad you had fine weather for your travels. I get drawn to Maine often...my brother owns a chunk of woods west of Portland.
An HHB is always a good " I'm home" tool
Almost finished with this “lambs shank” just some fine work left

Great work Daniel.👌

Last day of the work week for me !!!! A nice foggy morning. This is the best time of year in Wisconsin in my opinion.

Last night we had a crazy game of scattegories. On one of the rounds the letter was "I". The subject was things that people yell. For some reason all I could think of was "Iceburg dead ahead!!!!" 😆 🤣 😂. I have no idea why I had Titanic on my mind but it helped with the destruction of my family members.

Got this sweet smooth stag lambsfoot riding in my front pocket today.

I don’t know that I’ve ever encountered plastic growlers. 😁 I think I’ve told the story here before about the blind passenger I used to have when I drove paratransit who gave me some of his home brewed beers in plastic Coke bottles.

Most local breweries here will charge something like $5 for a glass growler (in addition to the cost of the beer), but you can bring it back and swap it out the next time and they waive the charge, so you really only have to pay it once.

Cool finds Barrett, and a great pic 😎👍

Yeah, it was a pleasant surprise when I actually read the whole thing. I had just bought the postcard for the line on the front about the “Man in Texas…” 😁

Barrett, the Pantera is a new one on me, never even seen a picture of one before. I don't suppose there are too many of them in Minnesota, what were the odds??

Still packin' the Albers lovely.

I hadn’t heard of them either before my father-in-law bought his. That was back when my wife and I were dating in high school, so he’s had it for 20+ years. Here’s a pic I took of it at a car meet last summer. (It was originally white, but a few years ago he had it painted to match his old Mercury Cougar.)

Funny enough, when the in-laws came up here for a visit a month or so ago, we saw a black one drive by while watching Eleanor’s baseball practice. So there are at least two in Minnesota.

That's pretty cool  When I was a wild-livin' youngster, the house I shared with my mates owned a huge 8 pint whisky bottle. Now and again, usually after a Sunday lunchtime session in the pub, in the days when pubs here only opened 12-2pm on a Sunday, we'd get the bottle filled up, go back home (about 50 yards) for Sunday diiner, and the 8 pints would see us through until the pubs openede again at 7pm :D ;)
Hope the funeral went off without any hitches (or mutinies).
Thanks pal, despite the efforts of the West Indian contingent, I managed to get there just in time  Raymond The Feckless came with us in the car, but then managed to go AWOL! 😒 The service was pretty nice, and I learned a few things I didn't know about Frank. I had known, for instance, that he had moved over here, from Ireland, when he was young, but not that he had run away from home at 14. His family learned a few things about their dad too :) Quite a few neighbours turned up in the end :)

🤣

Franks service was finished by 11.30am, and together with some other neighbours, and Frank's extended family I headed for an afternoon of Guinness-drinking, and telling tales. Frank's nephew had come over from Dublin, but most of the others live within a few streets of each other in Manchester, and were really lovely people to spend time with :)
