Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

That's sad Bob, but I guess it's at least a way to collect a few pennies. There's a huge homeless problem here, and all they can do is beg. I saw far fewer beggars in war-torn Lebanon 45 years ago, than I see on any given day in Leeds, and London is even worse :( Talking of which, I do hope that your daughter has settled in, and finding time to see the sights in our southern capital

After leaving Charlie, I went into town, as I needed to visit the post office. I don't know what's going on, but there have been long queues outside all week, with people going to the travel/foreign money exchange counter 🤷‍♂️ I really need to get a new compact camera, as I've noticed some focussing problems with the one I carry in my pocket (Canon SX620 HS) :(

I wasn't queuing, so I went into the market, across the road, to buy some bread. While I was waiting to be served, the two people in front of me each asked for a pistachio brownie, which sounded nice, so I scooped up the last one ;) I was going to have it after my lunch, but it had started raining heavily, so I headed to the Tunisian food stall instead :) I'll have the brownie after my tea later ;) I wish I could take photos like our old friend Harvey :(

Very sad to see, I'm sure, as you walk along. Some is self imposed, but worse when you are a victim of circumstances.

Thanks for remembering my daughter, Alex, Jack. She is of to parts unknown, so being a tourist will
have to wait.

Great shot of that outstanding Lambsfoot David 😎😊👍

Yes, drink and drugs are rife, but if all one has to look forward to is a cold pavement at night, it's hardly surprising :( As I passed out of the market, there was a middle-aged.bloke, in a wheel chair, with one leg missing, asking for spare change. One can't walk 5 yards without seeing a homeless person in the city centre, and even my local library has a tent pitched next to it. I remember when begging was something you read about, happening in Third World countries, but we have had it here for several decades now, and the homeless numbers grow bigger each year ☹️

I've had the same US Army canteen since 1978! :D But I also have loads of water-bottles too Barrett :D I only ever used Sigg for fuel, though they were popular with hikers here. Nalgene were crazy expensive when they first appeared here. I only came across Klean Kanteen here, 10-15 years ago, I have a couple of the non-insulated water-bottles, a food-flask, and one of the insulated cups, but I've bought a lot more as gifts. I have a couple of other US ones, including the 2 pint one, at least one British Army one, and one of the Keith Titanium canteens, as well as a couple more with integrated water filters :D

I have an MSR fuel bottle that looks almost identical to one of my Sigg water bottles. 😳🤣 (I was going to take a pic, but I couldn’t find the MSR bottle with all my camping stove/cookware stuff in the basement. Might be stashed in the garage somewhere.)

Nalgene was big when I got into backpacking in high school. I had a bunch of them at one point, but then there was the whole BPA thing and you weren’t supposed to use the old hard plastic ones anymore. I still have a few around here somewhere. The water filter I used most often when camping screwed onto the top of a wide-mouth Nalgene.

As a kid, I remember having several old-school canteens, including, I’m sure, some US Army ones. I don’t know what happened to any of them, though. Here’s a picture of my brother and I on a camping trip with our canteens. (I’m on the right.)

Hello All,

I too do the Klean Kanteen! Great product

I forgot that I have one of those KK stainless pints until I saw your picture. 😁

Good morning Guardians, it's raining here again, and heavily  I have to go to a funeral, and I'm looking to it even less than usual. Frank, a friend and neighbour, passed, from cancer, a couple of weeks back, very sad, but fortunately he died in his sleep. He and his partner, Donna, only met in later life, never married, but were very close, a compact unit, who did everything together. Frank's death must have hit Donna very hard, but she's a tough cookie. I only met Tim, Frank's son, after Frank became ill, and after he passed, I e-mailed Tim some photos of his dad, and a few words that he'd asked for. I didn't receive a reply, but Donna gave me the funeral details the other day. There seems to be some tension between her and Frank's family, however, which I obviously don't want to get involved in. Frank was from Dublin, and his elderly siblings are too frail to make the trip over, and apart from myself, the only other invited guests from the street have excused themselves. With one exception. There's an old West Indian lady, who lives in the flats (apartments) across the road, with her adult son. She's always been a bit loopy, and she's now quite deaf, and in cognitive decline I would say. While I was speaking to Donna, on the pavement, outside her and Frank's house, the other day, having only just learned of the funeral, the old lady came out of her flat, and Donna went across to speak to her. I'm not sure she knew Frank particularly, but the next thing, I had been volunteered to take her "in your taxi", and the old dear was shouting over demands about what time I should pick her up, and in what manner! She's a nice old lady, but I don't even know her name, and apart from the fact that a taxi is a £50 round trip, I don't want to have to listen to her rantings, all the way there and back, or to have responsibility for her. Friends have suggested I feign sickness, particularly as I'm now having second thoughts about attending anyway, but I'm not going to lie, so I guess I'm saddled with the job. I'm not religious, but I would like to pay my respects quietly, without her. Anyway, sorry for the digression.

Sorry again about the death of your neighbor, Jack. And the whole ordeal with you being roped into transporting your other neighbor sound like a royal pain. 🙄

That’s quite a queue! 😳 I did a quick search and found a short discussion on Reddit (in a Leeds subreddit) from yesterday in which someone suggested it could be new international students having to take care of passport/visa admin.

Here’s some Lambsfoot content. 😉

Great to see you're eating well Kevin, cool pic buddy :)
I would suggest one of each.

Your Post Office looks at least five times worse than mine during the Christmas rush.
Good idea Jer, I must have at least 20 hipflasks, and a good half dozen coffee flasks! :D I've never seen folks queuing outside like that, not least because there is space for more than 50 people to queue inside, and it has been like that from morning to late afternoon, all week  I like your pic, is that a Stanley flask on the right?

I know exactly the one you mean Barrett :) I have a cheapo one under my sink, which has sanding sealer in it, but I've just noticed it has leaked through the bottom joint (not present on the genuine ones)

I think it washed up here in the early 90's, and was initially quite expensive. I think I still have one of the smaller ones I used to carry milk in, and a couple of the even smaller ones. Fortunately, they are inexpensive to replace now

Aw, what a great pic Barrett :) I have bought canteens for some of my friends' kids

I'm struggling to find photos of my canteens, undoubtedly because I have too many photos! :D Here is one with my Keith Titanium canteen in the background :)

I also found this kidney-shaped Sigg model, based on an old Swiss Army design. It perfectly holds a bottle of wine ;)

Here's one of my KK food flasks - fresh strawberries and strawberry ice-cream on a scorching hot day! 😋 😁

I also remembered seeing KK-made growlers at Yorkshire's Magic Rock brewery, and meaning to get one :D £30 for the 4 pint model! :) I haven't used a growler in decades, but they DO look cool! :D

Edit - No longer made by Klean Kanteen :(

I forgot that I have one of those KK stainless pints until I saw your picture. 😁
Same here, but sadly it's too small for a British pint! 😭
Sorry again about the death of your neighbor, Jack. And the whole ordeal with you being roped into transporting your other neighbor sound like a royal pain. 🙄
Thank you my friend  I was just getting something to eat earlier, when my doorbell rang, and it was Raymond The Feckless. I was surprised to learn that he has decided to accompany his mother, but couldn't help noticing that he was dressed head to toe in brand new black clothes, including a new coat. Knowing the kind of relationship he has with his ageing mother, I suspect he may have been 'sponsored'! :D At least he'll keep an eye on her, hopefully ;)

Thanks Barrett, that's great detective work  It's strange that they all appear to be from the Indian sub-continent, with none, that I could see from China and Japan, which I think make up the largest section of international students in Leeds (or so I've been told). Maybe there has been some new change in the visa requirements or something? 🤷‍♂️

Edit - Maybe something to do with this:

Nice flock Barrett.👌
It's sad how many kids miss the experience of camping and trekking.
I couldn't agree with you more Bob

I agree with Bob, Paul, nothing boring about that horn  I hope your day gets more interesting - in a GOOD way! 🤣
Breakfast is served. Kinda late but better late than never. 😁View attachment 2327028

I hope you invited Jack. That's his kind of meal.😁 Perfect cutting tool for breakfast David.
Mmmm....I'll be on the next flight! :D

When I taught, all 6th graders had to spend a week at a state owned camp in the mountainous woods.
They were exposed to everything. They went mumbling but came back very happy.
Great stuff Bob :) I remember taking tough kids from inner city areas in Sheffield, out to the beautiful Peak District, which is only a few miles outside of Sheffield. Like many city kids, they had never been out to the countryside before, and with no ambient street lighting, it was the first time they'd experienced that level of darkness, not to mention all those 'strange' noises, like howls hooting, and hedgehogs snuffling around :D I longed to go camping from being a youngster, but I had to wait until I was about 11, when I could take myself, my father didn't like to remove his backside from his armchair very often

I have a bottle of Bushmills with Frank's name on it, but when I asked Donna if they were having a wake, she told me, very bluntly, "They are. I'm not." They both liked a drink, and Frank had lung cancer, not liver cancer, so I don't know why not. Anyway, I'll take my hip flask with me, and give a quiet Irish toast. The good stuff will probably be wasted on Raymond, who is a seasoned White Lightning man, but you never know ;)

Afternoon Guardians !

Went to get my Covid shot and was told that there was a computer glitch and that I shouldn't have been able to make the appointment as they had no vaccine

I have rescheduled for Thursday but I'll be sure to call before I show to make sure they have it.

Happy Tewsday !
