Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Jack, I can't thank you enough for all the hard work you do, so we fellers have a tip-top lambsfoot. Whether its stag, horn rosewood or ebony it all takes a full commitment from you.
I echo David's sentiment Jack.

Thanks Dave, that's very kind of you :) I must say, I don't enjoy all the stress of dealing with the postal service, I wish you could all come round to my house, and we could just share them out :) Then go out for a celebratory beer!
So do I. That would be a wonderful time!

Been a busy few days but thought I'd start getting my winter walking kit together.
Very nice David. Is that just for tea or do you use it for other purposes such as meals?

LOL Dave! Yip as a cyclist myself I can see the benefits of flatness. I can cycle 60+ (flat) miles in a day easily but put even a moderately small hill in front of me and I'm defeated. If I lived somewhere like that I'd be used to it. I lived in Hobart in Tasmania for a short while but sadly not long enough to find my hill legs. :(:( I hope that fancy birthday bike is fitted with a fancy gearing set up adequate to get you up them thar hills :D
Well to tell you the truth, I have been contemplating trading my Specialised bike in for an e-bike :D Zoom Zoom. Good enough for old buggers like me. :p

Both actually but mainly for rehydrating dehydrated meals. I found a couple of years ago that on my longer colder walks two pork pies, an apple and a Mars Bars weren't cutting it in regards to adequate nutrition. Also after 6 hours in minus temps whatever I'd put in my 1L Thermos flask was barely tepid. So I decided to switch to one or two dehydrated meals. The Ti mug is a smidge over 400mls, enough to rehydrate most meals sold in the UK. Hot choc sachets/buillion cubes/tea bags with pre-mixed dried milk and sugar are my hot drinks. I'm using the hexi stove/tabs for lightweight and size as the time I spend walking doesn't really warrant a full stove setup. Used it last winter with great results
I've experimented with various fuels for the hexi stove but still not found anything that beats x2 hexi cubes; rolling boil in <8 mins.

Whatever bike you end up riding, with those downhills I hope the brakes are as fancy as the rest of it :D:thumbsup:

haha, not today :p this happens fairly frequently this time year ie rutting season.

Canmore_caribou_WEB.jpg
My view looks just like that. Except without the mountains. And squirrels rutting instead of elk.
Only a neophyte retiree would say such a thing. Look Gary those days are over! Tkkkkkk! Tkkkkk! Tikkkkk! None of that!!!! No no no, you're priorities are all wrong my friend. Now is the time to descend into a state of lethargy and malaise... as you're physiognomy experiences atrophy until every day becomes one ... and eventually time stands still... and then... there is no time... only ... only... ice-cream...:D:D:D just kidding. Outstanding knives you've posted!!
I sure hope not!

What a fine party that would be. :)

Ahhh...I've a mate in Sheffield who feels the same way. They say everything's either at the top of a hill or at the bottom a hill :D
The Dragon Fuel was a disappointment. It burned intensely for 3-4 minutes then burned out. Water was hot but not boiling. There advertised for ~8mins and to burn clean. This left a thick residue over the hexi stove. I tried two of them with the same results. I've never used them before but as I've been looking at different lightweight cooking options I thought I'd give them a try for this winter.

Oh and it's an Alpkit aluminium windshield. I first used it last winter and can recommend it. It really did make a great deal of difference when using the hexi stove. (Usual disclaimer folks).

I've heard rumours of snow in northern England this weekend. Unfortunately I'm working all weekend but I'm sure there'll be more :)

I've had a couple of friends who've bought houses on Blake Street - got them very cheap, couldn't sell them! If it's icy, stationery cars slide down it! The video really doesn't show how steep it is (plenty more like that too)! Fortunately there's a pub at the top ;) :D

(You might want to turn the sound off!)

That's a shame about the Dragon Fuel, I have about 4 boxes of it! :( It's not even supposed to smoke! o_O Thanks for the tip on the windshield my friend

I don't blame you mate! :D

There was a time when I wouldn't even stop to eat! Now, I enjoy sitting down, getting a fire going, and having a hot drink and something to eat :) Years ago, I did some tests on all sorts of fuels - petrol, paraffin, meths, gas, etc - hexi beat the lot, including meta. Now my Kelly Kettle is FAST! But bulky unfortunately

That really is creepy! :D

What a fine party that would be. :)

Wouldn't it just? :) Smashing pic Rachel

Wow. It still surprises me how quickly this thread moves some times. Fantastic fall pictures, everyone!

I bring greetings from @StoneBeard. He's been very busy lately, but asked me to pass along his warm regards to his fellow Guardians and his assurance that he'll be back one of these days.

In the meantime, I hope everyone's week is off to a good start. I can't believe it's already Tuesday afternoon!

haha, squirrels are some crazy little buggers.:thumbsup::p:p

Sometimes they bring out the nuttiness in others. When my daughter was younger--maybe 6 or 7--she took a thousand photographs of a squirrel in front of our house in our mesquite trees. Could have been more than one squirrel, I guess, but 1,000 photos! (It was with my wife's digital camera; we didn't print them).

PJ did this lead on to bigger and better things for your daughter? :D

lol I know what you're saying ;):p I'm very fortunate to have worked and retired here. Just a little info, those 3 snowy mountains in the background are called the
Three Sisters. Sitting here at my computer I have the exact same view as the photo looking South East.
Just checked out where you live and that would be a beautiful place to live since we really like the mountains . The problem is the temperature extremes in the winter . Beautiful pictures my friend .

Awesome! also a knife enthusiast that's a double Awesome.:thumbsup::cool::cool:
Hey, I bought knives for my sons too, but my daughter really loves them. She's had a preference for those newfangled one-hand openings thingamajigs with pocket clips, but may convert her yet. Just bought her a nice Case amber bone CV Texas Jack which she loves.

I likes this one! :p:D

I got to work on one of those awhile back. I have to say it is the nicest E bike I have ever came across, really top notch parts and a design that makes sense. That motor looking thing is a cast aluminum housing for the batteries, so it keeps the batteries nice and cool...heat is a battery killer. Of course I had to take it on a nice long test ride to make sure everything was working properly. :D The ride was reeeeealy nice....pretty fast too. BTW, they are made about 1.5 hours from my house.

Kevin, I might pm you in the future regarding an e-bike, I really would like to know more about them. As we were discussing before around here it can be a challenge, especially at my age. As a result, my bicycle doesn't get used as it should.
