Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Maybe I should have said “last for a bit.” ;)

I like your idea! I’ll join you.
Great idea GT :)...Count me in! :D
Very cool, Greg & Jack; the more, the merrier! :)

Aye, GT, that it is. And thanks!

And I carry a lambsfoot...

...because sometimes nothing else will cut it....

How 'bout you?
:thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

... because even a solo adventurer needs a trusted sidekick.

How ‘bout you?

I don’t actually have any adventure planned today, much less solo, but when I do, it’s often with that pack on my back and a lambsfoot in my pocket.
:thumbsup::cool::thumbsup:

...The hospitals here are quite notorious for people contracting viruses (most notably norovirus) while they are in there, and I was in contact with quite a few people there, giving blood, and having various breathing tests (on equipment which couldn't have been completely sterile), and the doctor I saw was actually ill herself (though with flu I think). She told me getting ill went with the territory (as it does for teachers and college lecturers) :( When I've had food-poisoning in the past, actually it was three times before rather than twice, I could see how and where I got it, and other people were ill, but on this occasion, it's really difficult for me to pin it down to anything in particular....
I have no personal experience with norovirus, but it seems to be a scourge of local schools. When hit with an outbreak, schools around here tend to close down for a couple of days while staff tries to disinfect everything. And the symptoms seem to involve lots of gastric distress. Maybe you DID pick up something similar at hospital!:thumbsdown::(

LOL! Thanks GT, I did originally want Vantablack! :D

I'm sure Charlie will keep us posted if there's any news ;)

That's a nice pic my friend :)
I remember that I had to look up Vantablack the first time you mentioned it!:thumbsup::cool:
Wasn't a famous slogan during WWII, "Zipped lips sink ships"?? ;):p
Thanks for the comments, Jack. :)

Great song and album, Dave!;) I always had a lot of empathy for the clever, but pathetic, phrase, "As I was searching from bottle to bottle for something unfoolish to say." :D:rolleyes:

...
I don't know if anyone has anything exciting planned for the weekend? I'm still not firing on all cylinders, but I said I'd call in at a local amateur boxing tournament a friend of mine is organising (he runs a local club). ...
RLLEUKF.jpg
That's impressive, Jack; I hope you're able to last a couple of rounds at least without taking more than you give! :D:p
Whether my weekend plans qualify as "exciting" depends on the definition, I guess. Today will be laundry, paying bills, and catching up on the checkbook register, as well as some spontaneous snow shoveling!! ;):thumbsup:

...
I've been experimenting in the kitchen, where I also thought a bellied blade was necessary, but finding I can manage perfectly well with a straight-edge, either a Lambsfoot or the Frostfoot that @Cambertree made for me :)
...
As to everything else I use a knife for, a Lambsfoot works perfectly. It's nice to have a choice, and I'm not going to stop carrying other patterns, but if I wasn't a knife knut, I reckon I could manage perfectly well with just a Lambsfoot :) It's worth remembering that for thousands of years, straight-edged blades were mainly what our ancestors carried, and they managed OK with them :)
...
Interesting observations, Jack. I wonder if it's mainly a question of what one is accustomed to. I'm becoming quite adept at using my lambsfoot blades for all kinds of tasks, but I still think that I'm most comfortable in almost every situation using a spearpoint blade, the blade with which I grew up. But, as you point out, it's nice to have a choice! ;):cool:

Winter is coming! I decided to try to make some of @WhittlinAway 's beeswax/mineral oil balm and I've rubbed some on my horn Guardian. It feels smooth and silky; we'll see how it holds up to the alternating damp and dry weather we get around here. (85 degrees last Wednesday, lows next week predicted in the 30s)

Still a striking knife, r8shell!:cool::cool: I look forward to future reports on how Greg's potion works out for your horn handles.

Lam Jack in a celebratory mood:

I hope they're not practicing to storm my house and steal my penknives! ;)

Just catching up with the thread after having been away and caught your comment about helicopters.
I think if anyone wanted to airlift your pocket knife collection Jack, they'd need one of these...

Hope your feeling better Jack

Those are some big variations Rachel, be interested to learn how your Lambsfoot goes on

Wee staggie. Nothing to snort at.

Olé :)

It has been rampant in schools and hospitals here over the past decade GT. Not having young kids anymore, I've managed to escape it so far. I was talking to a pal today who is a school janitor, and he told me he had been ill this week, and the symptoms were very similar to mine, including the hallucinations, so that more or less confirms it for me :(

I remember that I had to look up Vantablack the first time you mentioned it!:thumbsup::cool:

They are making blacker blacks all the time GT! ;)

Nice try my friend...;) :D

It turned out to be a really well organised international event, with maybe 40 fights of three 3 minute rounds, primarily boxing, but also 2 different types of kick-boxing, and 2 different types of grappling. It turned out I knew quite a lot of the fighters, and the guy from Sheffield who set up the ring  These days, I think they might have had to invent a new weight category for me my friend! :D Hope you managed to get everything done

I dare say that is a factor Gary, and I imagine the fact the point is placed differently may be important

Cheers :)

LOL! Possibly David! :D Thank you my friend, I'm glad you've been able to get out today :)

Looks bally ancient.

Your right Jer it is

Morning David, cool pic, where is it?

It's St' Nicholas church, in the village of North Grimston in North Yorkshire, not far from Malton. The church is 12th Century but the font is earlier. Both church and font are regarded as Norman but the font is believed to be older than the church. Some even believe it's Anglo-Saxon, but if it's not then it was possibly carved by Anglo-Saxon masons working under Norman direction.

Fascinating David, I must have seen a photo of it before as I have never visited. Will have to check it out the next time I'm up that way

The Wolds (less so North Yorkshire as a whole) and East Yorkshire are replete with ancient churches. The villages along the B1257 between Hovingham and Malton has about 3 or 4 alone. I have a book
"I never knew that about English Churches"
detailing some of them but the best resource is:

Happy hunting

Excellent pic Dave, you've really captured the colours in the stag nicely :) If it's starting to get too cold for the bears, I hope you're keeping wrapped-up my friend ;)
