Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

A quick response after a bourbon Jeff. I seem to like the Titusville blade the best. It falls between an Albers and a kroo.
I've always noticed that your K'roo lambs have a longer blade. I don't know if I would like the blade for use but I've always thought the length was very attractive. Also I like the extra kant on Willem's blades.
Nice composition of Starry Night !
Thanks man.
Thank you, Dwight. Lovely lamb yourself. Scotch looks tasty.
Thanks brother. It is tasty and I've over imbibed this evening... 😉🙃

I've been thinking about blade length, and how specific my preferences are depending on which type of blade I'm using. With clips or spears any length from about 2½" to 4" seems to work and feel fine to me, but with straight-edged blades I'm much more particular. With coping or sheepfoot blades I rarely like them if over about 2¼ inches. This is somewhat understandable as they are specialty blades. With the much more utilitarian lambsfoot I want a little more length, but not too much. RALF comes in at 2.79" from bolster to tip and is just right. Gidge (Albers) is a touch shorter at 2.69" but still seems fine. The lambsfoot on the #88 Gator is 2.97" and seems ungainly long to me. I'm interested in your thoughts on lambsfoot blade length, Guardians!

I won’t make any statements about actual measurements, as I haven’t sat down with a ruler and measured all my Lambsfoot blades, but I will say that, in general, I prefer the shorter, stockier Lambsfoot blades to the longer, more slender ones. The “standard” Wright’s size and Albers Lambsfoot blade are just about perfect for me when it comes to size/proportion.

Thanks brother. It is tasty and I've over imbibed this evening... 😉🙃

Happens to the best of us. 🤣

Eleanor had a school concert tonight, after which we went out for Mexican. Julie and I shared a large margarita this time, rather than ordering one each. 😁 Had my Katalox Albers with me.

Satisfying way to end the night Bart.
Albers are a good one to work with.

Sounds like fun, have a great time Jack.

Thanks Todd :)

Just waiting on a grant for funding 😁👍
Happy to chip in! :D
So nice out that I enjoyed a wonderful pipe with the best tobacco in the world. In the pocket is this wonderful shadow Rodgers. Both happen to hail from the same country. English tobacco is the top of the mountain.

I think people get too caught up with steel. I have used this knife pretty hard and it is still hair splitting sharp. I am very happy with this English beauty. Enjoyed a wonderful red delicious apple for lunch and the patina has started on the shadow lamb.

I'm glad that you were able to find some of your favourite tobacco my friend :) Great pic  I'm with you on the steel, and what a beauty your Shadow Lamb is :)
I still get emails from them occasionally (got one yesterday, in fact) threatening to delete my account unless I pay for their premium service. They’ve been threatening the same thing for like six years now, and they don’t seem to be taking the hint. 🙄
🤣
It’s been an odd winter. Bit of rain today, but otherwise another 50° February day in Minnesota. I didn’t even wear real shoes today. 😁

 I dare say one of the English Red-Tops has had a headline, 'Colder than Minnesota!' in response to the inch or two of snow we had  :D

That Baxter is really something Steve. The jigging is wonderful and somewhat unusual. Love your photography mate. 👍
Quoted for truth! :)
Jb lamb today,
I think the picture is OK, Kristy took the laptop to work, so I don't know what it is like on the bigger screen 🥺View attachment 2488327

I'm pretty much with you Jeff, though I'm happy to go up or down from time to time. With a longer blade I prefer something a little beefier

I enjoy Talisker Scotch. Never tried the Storm. Nice looking Lambfoot knife.

Thanks Bill. Yeah the Talisker distiller's edition is my favorite. :)

I've not had the Distiller's Edition, have to look out for it :) I don't find the Storm markedly different in character to the 12, but I prefer the simplicity of the whiskies that are sold by age. I have a bottle of Storm in my whiskey pile, might be next ;)

Easily done with those smooth-drinking Scotches! :D

Good morning Guardians, I hope that everyone has made it through the week OK, and that Friday isn't too tough on you :) I can't say I feel great today, and I'm coughing a fair bit :( It was freezing out last night, with snow on the ground, as I walked down to Pete's for dinner, but I had a sweater on, and my big padded parka. I've known Pete 22 years, he used to share a house with some friends of mine, but he goes through long periods of depression, and can be morose and anti-social, and eventually, by mutual consent he moved to an apartment on the other side of the street. He's lived there at least a dozen years, and it's the first time I've been inside. I mainly see him cycling to work at the post office, where he works shifts, and very occasionally we have a brief chat. Every couple of years, he calls round to ask my advice about something. He has quite a lot of inherited wealth, but is incredibly frugal, to the point where he saves up 'grey water' to flush his toilet! This is not entirely out of stinginess, he also does it for environmental reasons. When I was in his small kitchen, I saw some small red objects in, and around, an overflowing jar, and asked what they were. They turned out to be the tops of tomato paste tubes, as he was intending to return them to the company demanding they be recycled! When I arrived at Pete's small, and very cluttered apartment, he had only just started cooking, and I watched him cube at least a dozen sweet potatoes. He has a fast metabolism, and eats vast quantities of food! I'd brought some beers with me, and chatted, while the food (over)cooked. Pete was in a fairly good mood, but having similar dental problems to myself, and with the same dentist. He didn't have any heating on though, and a couple of hours later, I suddenly realised I was absolutely freezing. After donning my parka, and walking back home, I was still none the warmer, and it took me a couple of hours to heat up again. I'm coughing today, and feeling pretty ropey :( I thought I needed a Double Lambsfoot Day! Have a good one Guardians :)

Thanks Jack, it’s my exception to agreeing with Barrett about size proportion preferences in a lamb. I see Skoll in your picture, still doing great here. I hope your Friday starts to improve, you get over the cough and start feeling better soon.

Thank you Bob, Dwight, Barrett and Jack for responding to my blade length rant.

With a longer blade I prefer something a little beefier.
Jack, I think that is just what I feel with the 88's longer blade; it's just too slender and "weak" feeling. Beefier would definitely be an improvement, in both width and thickness of the blade stock.

I mostly prefer the shorter length on the Lamb for everyday use. I do like the large lambs longer blade as well. I'm with Jack on liking it a bit beefer. The two blade Lambs are nice as well with the penblade secondary 👍

While I really like the larger lambs and there long sleek blades. I seem to prefer and carry the medium A Wright sized lambs more. Course that maybe because I usually carry them in my left t-shirt pocket. They also seem to feel better in my hand. My Lambs lead easy lives so don't really need a robust blade.
